5.0 out of 5 stars Genre-bending crazyness!!!
This is good stuff! 80's style keyboards stand out over versatile vocals and an even more versatile band. 1.0 out of 5 stars i laugh at them
they hate scene kids, but they're the only ones who are going to care to seek out this crap. "nintendocore"? please. the guys in the band do their best to appear to be pretentious ass's but they're just art-school dorks who got picked on in high school. they're just a trendy novelty act & they won't be remembered in a year.

This is good stuff! 80's style keyboards stand out over versatile vocals and an even more versatile band. While it is desrving of the title nintendocore I feel more like I'm listening to a kick ass indie/hardcore/spazcore band that occasionally cuts into a Richard Simmons video. While this may sound unpleasant it is quite enjoyable and deifinitely unique. This would be a very difficult band to compare to others, except maybe to other bands with the same idea: making diverse and interesting heavy music. Some of these bands would be Circle Takes the Square, The Number Twelve Looks Like You, The Blood Brothers, Bear vs. Shark. These are the best comparisons I can make. At 35 mins, nothing is wasted, every second rocks, surprises, and excites. This is innovative, as most spazcore is, and never gets boring. Any fan of hardcore who has a sense of humor should buy this cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars WAY better live, September 26, 2004
This review is from: R. Borlax (Audio CD)
This is an amazing cd, but their sound and talent really come through in a live show. I just recently saw them and not only do they play some refreshing music (they were the last act after two particularly dull and obnoxious hxc bands), but they are funny as hell and cool to talk to. The kid who said that only scene kids are going to like them...You obviously hasn't seen been to one of their shows. The scene kids just file out when they come on, only a few of them stayed. So, go see them live, they're great. Too bad their tour is wrapping up.

5.0 out of 5 stars HAHA--What Fun, January 30, 2004
This review is from: R. Borlax (Audio CD)
Ah! I LOVE this album! Even though it's primarily a hardcore album, there is so much originality and qurikiness to it that it's almost as if the band were making fun of the genre, and how laughing at how seriously it takes itself. I wouldn't necessarily expect hardcore and video game music to blend and work very well together, but these guys pull it off in the best way possible. If you like bands like the Blood Brothers, or even older At the Drive-In, just that sort of off-the-wall, all over the place type music, you will probably love this, even if it does take a few listens to figure out what kind of craziness is attacking your ears. I would absolutely recommend this album to anyone who's looking for something new and very different, and if you have a few minutes, go check out the band's website...it's definitely good for some laughs.

I guess I'm impartial since I'm Andy's (bassist) dad. This genre of music is not for me, but if you crave incessant, yet well orchestrated madnesscore music, a kind of nepenthe for the mind...Bingo! This is a favored music for all pirates. Eat it up! Long live HTB! Support Hardcore music! Buy this CD!

I've been listening to Horse the Band since they were featured on the America's Hardcore split cd with some other bands (I don't remember who because they suck). R. Borlax, HTB's long-awaited major label release is nothing short of mind-blowing. Not only is their "Nintendocore" sound refreshing and badass, the lyrics are amazing and not at all stereotypical. The best thing about HTB to me is Erik's keyboarding. He's f*ckin' awesome! Bring on any other band with a keyboard and Erik will tear 'em up *cough cough* Bleeding Through *cough*.

Check out this cd. Especially if you're into metal or anything heavy, fast, crazy....whatever. And if you can find any of HTB's older stuff, grab it! The Immense Defecation of the Bunt is a badass track with the dungeon theme from The Legend of Zelda for NES.

Horse the Band, B*tch!

5.0 out of 5 stars Talented at being obnoxious, May 31, 2006
This review is from: R. Borlax (Audio CD)
I personally love this album. It is in my top 20 favorites. It is an in-your-face release with insanely talented musicianship. Horse the band is an anomoly of it own. While they are extremely talented musicians, they push to be more obnoxious than anyone ever has been. They succeed. Horse is a wonderful blend of ferocious growls and high pitched screams. On R. Borlax, they have so many amazing synth pieces that it astounds me. This is a must have for my collection, but many aren't into the obnoxious side of Horse. If you're a fun loving individual, get this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME, December 31, 2008
This review is from: R Borlax (Reis) (Audio CD)
first of all, this is an incredibly talented band whether or not you like their style

will both bombard you with sound and at times scare the crap out of you, which is what makes it all so much fun and interesting

they pretty much invented a new genre named nintendo-core because they use nintendo sounds to give you that sub-conscious nostalgic feeling while at the same time roaring, screeching and exploding with brutal music

rock on!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just an all together fun album, March 6, 2005
This review is from: R. Borlax (Audio CD)
Horse the Band is incredible. They mix nintendo like keyboard effects with the intensity of hardcore. And they pull it all together with some of the most entertaining lyrics I have ever heard. The thing I love most about this album is that while most bands take on a serious tone and write about some of the more depressing aspects of life, HTB takes on the fun side and writes about killing bunnies, video game characters, and about the Buntalufagous. The album just let's you let go and have some real fun.

I definetely suggest everyone gives this a listen to.
