Yes, this CD has finally come out...its about time! It seems we waited forever for this outstanding new disc from Heidi and the boys! I love this disc! I bought it 2 days ago and it hasn't left my CD player yet! The remake of Bonnie Tyler's "It's a Heartache" with Heidi's voice sent chills down my spine. "When I Fall" is a classic Trick Pony ballad. It is modern country. It is not my favourite music but "Trick Pony" has some very good songs. She is a MUST in a country music collection.

Heidi's bluntness is definitely shown on "I Didn't". The other remake of the Los Lonely Boys "Seniorita" was totally unexpected, but great! But, I think the best song and my personal favorite is "Stand In the Middle of Texas". Oh...my...gosh...totally unbelievable! It is classic country with a twist in my opinion. It is definitely the biggest highlight on this new disc. "Stand In the Middle of Texas" is a track that'll be played in every honky tonk from coast to coast after one in the morning after everybody's left the bar. It is the "tear in my beer" song on the album. I would almost venture to say this would be Trick Pony's "Where Would You Be" song on the album! If Trick Pony doesn't receive a CMA for something on this disc there's a problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mission accomplished, August 23, 2005

Finally new music from Trick Pony. This CD is hot front to back and sideways!! Heidi can honky-tonk with the best of 'em on songs like "I Can Live With That" and the good time "Ain't Wastin' Good Whiskey on You" and then bring tears to your eyes with the touching "Maryann's Song" and "When I Fall". I love how the group switches up who sings lead and Keith's turn on "Sad City" with Darius Rucker from Hootie and the Blowfish is awesome! Ira rocks out on two tunes - the hilarious "Hillbilly Rich" and "Cry Cry Cry". My favorite songs are "Senorita", "It's a Heartache" and the clever "I Didn't". A lot of big names in Nashville appear in the liner notes, like Sherrie Austin, Matraca Berg (co-wrote "Stand in the Middle of Texas") and Jeffrey Steele (they cover his "Once a Cowboy"). Hilarious too are the bits with George Jones. This disc is hot - getcha some!

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Worth The Wait, September 2, 2005

First of all...I don't think listening to this whole cd is tiresome at all...I can't get enough of it. I think 14 songs is a good number because it has been so long since Trick Pony has released a new cd...mostly having to do with switching record companies. Even though there are different types of songs here...they all fit together very well and the cd flows smoothly. If you are tired of the stuff that passes for music these days.....try something refreshing and give Heidi, Keith and Ira a listen. Grab your ticket to R.I.D.E. now!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, February 14, 2006
This review is from: R.I.D.E. (Audio CD)
WOW! This has got to be one of the best country albums I've listened to in a long long time. TP's honky tonk style never lets up throughout every song. I enjoyed this album so much I purchased TP's other 2 and enjoy them just as much. I highly recommend TP to anyone looking for a unique and refreshing sound in country music. This album is excellent. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, album number 3 from this incredible trio!, August 23, 2005
This review is from: R.I.D.E. (Audio CD)
It's been a long wait for R.I.D.E., one that seemed like it could take forever. The first single, "The Bride," failed to catch on; ironically, it was a remake ("It's a Heartache") that launched them back into the Top 20. Why is that ironic? Because as TP fans know, these guys (and newly-married gal) can sing and write and play with the best of them, forging their own original way by keeping it honky-tonk and hardcore country.

One thing about this album is that there are more cover tunes; aside from "It's a Heartache," they also do songs penned by Los Lonely Boys, Jeffery Steele, Sherrie Austin, and other notable Nashville songwriters. There're also plenty of guests: Tracy Byrd, Joe Diffie, Mel Tillis, Tanya Tucker, and Darryl Worley add harmonies to the opening number; Darius Rucker duets on "Sad City;" George Jones has cameo appearances throughout the album; and Kris Kristofferson gives an emotional delivery of a recitation by Heidi Newfield Johnson on "Maryann's Song," a tune written in memorial of her mother.

Elsewhere on the album, it's honky-tonk and more honky-tonk, with a ballad thrown in here and there for good measure. There's humor ("What finally tore our love apart was a matter of religion/He thought he was God and I didn't"); there's heartbreak ("It's a fool's game/Nothin' but a fool's game/Standin' in the cold rain/Feelin' like a clown"); there's whistful wonderlust ("Once a cowboy, always a cowboy/Between the blue sky and unbroken ground, he wears his freedom like a crown); there're rich hillbillies, lots of whiskey, and even a little Spanish. R.I.D.E. is Trick Pony at their best. Keith Burns, Heidi Newfield Johnson, and Ira Dean are three of the best performers country has to offer (see them live if you don't believe it), and R.I.D.E. perfectly captures their modern take on traditional honky-tonk music. Rebellious Individuals Delivering Entertainment...that's Trick Pony in a nutshell.

Alannah Nash's review shouldn't represent this album or Trick Pony (even though they are broke up). This trio will be missed though still enjoyed separately, Heidi and Ira on solo missions and Keith Burns now half of Burns & Poe. That said, all three Trick Pony albums are excellent classics. Seriously fun and well-crafted. Pshaw on professional water tossers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, January 22, 2009
This review is from: R.I.D.E. (Audio CD)
This is more of a comment than a review. RIDE is a great CD with alot of promise from Trick Pony. But, unfornately, it was their swan song. Heidi now has a solo CD out, Ira is working in solo material, and the new duo Burns & Poe are about to release their debut cd this year. R.I.P. Trick Pony.

5.0 out of 5 stars R.I.D.E. ON!!, July 30, 2006
This review is from: R.I.D.E. (Audio CD)
R.I.D.E. (Rebellious Individuals Delivering Entertainment) is what they refer themselves as, on this album. Track 1- Ain't Wastin' Good Whiskey" has many top notch artist helping Heidi, Keith, and Ira, with vocals(Tanya Tucker, being one of them.)
"IT'S A HEARTACHE" the remake of Bonnie Tyler's song. Although Bonnie's version is a bit more raspier in vocals, TRICK PONY does add a few raspy vocals here and there, with a few nitches of their own, which makes T.P.'s version good and unique!! "I DIDN'T" is what I call a "men bashing" song. Just a few differences of opinions between man and woman. "THE BRIDE" another great song from T.P. "SENORITA" a remake of the Los Lonely Boys tune. "HILLBILLY RICH" talks about a redneck livin' rich. (now if that isn't ironic.) And last but not ever the least the 14th track.. "MARYANN'S SONG" a very loving tribute to Heidi's deceased mother, narrated by the talanted Kris Kristofferson. This CD R.I.D.E. is new, fresh and R.I.D.E. on!! Keep up the great work T.P.

I have been eagerly waiting for the release of this cd. Upset each time the release date was changed. That said it was well worth the wait. I am a HUGE Trick Pony fan and I was not disappointed by this cd, it is awesome! My favorites are "What's not to love" , "It's a heartache" , "I didn't" and "I can live with that". Trick Pony is one of the best country groups out there and rarely get the recognition they deserve. I hope everybody goes out and buys this cd. If you are at all dissappointed then there is something wrong with you. Please go buy the cd and let's get TP on the charts.
