Hell's own collection of rare tracks and live performances, February 25, 2004
This review is from: R.I.P.-Roir Sessions (Audio CD)
Although this 1990 collection has been updated by the two-disc set from 2002 ("Time"), it's still a good deal: live Voidoid performances, studio tracks recorded in New Orleans, and rare Heartbreakers material. The well-crafted studio tunes are as close to pop as Hell's unique vocals will allow, and his version of Dylan's "Going Going Gone" is an unexpectedly great cover. The live Heartbreakers material is marginal quality at best, but historically their inclusion is beyond question; the only difference from the first disc of "Time" is that you won't get Hell and Thunders blistering through "Chinese Rocks" here. Otherwise, this collection is a blast from start to finish.
