5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding debut novel, October 2, 2000
This review is from: R.I.P...'Til We Meet Again (Paperback)
The author has weaved a fascinating tale. This ain't no "Waiting to Exhale." This novel is the truth. It doesn't try to make all the women look good and the men look bad. Ms. Wash tells the truth on both sides. Men and women are both depicted fairly.

Rashondra, Indigo, Priscilla and Walter all make mistakes as do the people in their lives. The three females are well rounded women and Walter completes the group. The characters have depth and Ms. Wash gives us backgrounds and history for all four --- how they came to be together --- the ties that bind them together.

The three ladies and Walter's story follows them from youth, through college and as adults. There is maturity in all the four lead characters as they walk through life. The decisions they make seem to be based on solid principle and faith. The marriage of this story and faith is exemplary. Read the book and check out the way Ms. Wash slips in sage advice. It will make you think and pause when you're deciding to allow others into your world.

Look past the few very minor editorial oversights and give this novel a chance.

Ms. Wash is a truly incredible storyteller. I picked up this book on a Friday evening and couldn't wait to finish it. I couldn't put it down and am now passing it on to my friends and fellow bookclub members.

4.0 out of 5 stars R.I.P. Til We Meet Again, November 22, 2000

R.I.P. . . . 'Till We Meet Again

I couldn't read this book fast enough . . . so badly wanting to get to its end. Once I arrived there I was not disappointed.

Rambunctious, ingenious and perfect not only describes the main characters of the book, it is also the way the story is told about them. As you begin reading, you wonder where the characters' individual accounts are taking you. It becomes all so clear once you reach the turning point of the story, which are for the reader the pages of "no turning back now."

How important is a title? As a writer, in my opinion, to the author, reader and the story the title is key. When it became evident to me of how R.I.P. 'Till We Meet Again plays a part of this story, I was moved from intrigued and excited to sadden and surprised. If a picture paints a thousand words, the novel's cover speaks volumes.

Sonya Senell Wash is a delightful storyteller. Once you've read this, her first novel your heart, mind and soul will not be able to RIP.

4.0 out of 5 stars True Sisterly Bonds, August 26, 2002

This review is from: R.I.P...'Til We Meet Again (Paperback)
Sonya Wash's debut offering, "R.I.P. Til We Meet Again", is a moving and powerful tale of Sisterly Bonds, and what it takes to make them work.

Rambunctious Rashonda, Ingenious Indigo, and Perfect Priscilla have a friendship that only few can even phatham. Their chance meeting in college proves to be very rewarding, as their sisterly connection forms almost instantly. Their relationship survives many obstacles throughout the story, but when a tragedy occurs, their worlds are turned upside down. Can their bond withstand the pain?

Sonya did an excellent job of pulling the reader into her world, as page after page draws you into the story. Her characters were strong, and made me feel as though I knew them personally. I look forward to reading more from this talented writer.

Sonya,
does a marvelous job with her description and the drama she creates with these three friends and the secrets they share that will be the end of them or will bring them together as they'd been in college. Sensual love scenes and a great look into what women want. Suspenseful and moving.

Prepare to take an emotional roller coaster ride. This "slice of life" novel is very difficult to put down. It explores the lives of three girlfriends (and one "plutonic" male friend). The author has created three--dimensional characters so real, that she takes you hostage into her eloquently penned prose.

I enjoyed this book so much. I knew Rashondra, Indigo and Pricilla all to well. I cried, laughed and was amazed as the plot unfolded. These sister's were amazing and their struggles with men, life and family paint a vivid picture. This story proves how genuine friendship is and forces us to charish the time we spend with them. I would recommend this to anyone that values true friendships.

5.0 out of 5 stars Through Thick and Thin, July 29, 2001

This review is from: R.I.P...'Til We Meet Again (Paperback)
I can't believe that this book has been out since September 2000 and I'm just discovering it! The title is intriguing and really made me wonder what was between the covers. What I found was a story that was bold and sassy, honest and bittersweet with unexpected twists and turns that held my attention and that I quickly read in one sitting. R.I.P. is a story that deals with the benevolence and woes of friendship. Via the acronym R.I.P. Wash introduces us to friends Rambunctious Rashondra,

Ingenious Indigo, and Perfect Priscilla in her fascinating debut novel titled R.I.P. Til We Meet Again. RIP are three sister friends who meet during freshman year via a study group and are rounded out by the sole male friend of the group, Walter. The descriptor RIP appropriately describes each young lady as they all come from diverse backgrounds and live up to their names.

Although each friend is unique and very different they are able to put aside their differences to form a strong sisterhood bond which continues after they graduate from college. Together they will share a multitude of experiences including Family Drama, Deception, Secrets, Adultery, Murder and Wayward Family Members. However, a sudden tragedy occurs which ignites pain and mistrust and as a result, their friendship ends. After two years and the trio is not back together, Walter intervenes to bring peace and harmony back to the ladies. Walter knows that the girls miss each other, but it is their

stubborn pride that keeps each one from taking the first step to re-establish their friendship. Since Walter was the friend who brought the others together he felt it was his responsibility to mend the rift that separated them. But will Walter succeed in his endeavor?

They say a picture is worth a thousand words but the title is the key to discovering the depth of RIP Til We Meet Again. When I found out how the title was interwoven into the storyline, I was moved from intrigued and excited to saddened and surprised. I couldn't believe the bombshell that was dropped on me! Wash is a delightful storyteller and I really enjoyed how she developed the characters by taking us through their childhood, college years and into adulthood. The characters become personable to us as Wash makes them jump off the page and into our lives via the creatively crafted subplots. RIP is a love story and a mystery tightly wrapped in an engrossing and compelling storyline. I look forward to future novels from Sonya Senell Wash and I hope not to take as long to discover them as I did RIP.

Sonya Wash did a wonderful job portraying how powerful friendship can be. It touched my heart and brought me to tears as the characters allowed misunderstandings to bring down the strength of their friendship. Sonya revealed how love, sacrifice and dedication can help us overcome any obstacle, no matter how difficult it may be. Without giving away the storyline, anyone who has a friend they may have lost touch with or distanced themselves because of some silly misunderstanding. Call them up so you can work things out. Let them know how priceless their friendship really is to you. This is a must read.

I truly enjoyed this short novel. I couldn't stop turning the pages. The characters were well developed and interesting. It was a love story, a mystery and a book base of profound friendship all neatly package in a very cleaver prose. All the elements of everyday life come together and then fall apart as these three friends go through tragedies and triumphs. There are unexpected twist and abrupt turns throughout the novel that will hold you to the surprising end. I look forward to her second next novel.
