Why am I the only one reviewing this?,

This game is one of the first computer games I started and actually finished, and since then i really think I've been spoiled. The graphics in Goosebumps: Escape From Horrorland are the best ever in a game. Ever. Why? because they use real actors! That's right, no cheesy CGI characters in this one, only real people, which really adds to the realism of the game. The gameplay on this one is like Myst, point and click, so your exploring options are rather limited, although compared to Myst they are huge. In fact, this game, in my mind, far surpasses Myst. It's not boring, it's actually very exiting. You fight plenty of monsters, including a mummy, a werewolf, and the Horrorland goblins. Jeff Goldblum, that familiar actor who played in Jurassic Park 1 and 2 plays Dracula. The plot is interesting, and this game has a creepy but at the same time fun atmosphere to it, which is very hard to come by nowadays. Basically, Goosebumps: Escape From Horrorland, isn't one of your average computer games.

Escape from Horrorland,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: R.L. Stine Goosebumps: Escape From Horrorland (CD-ROM)
"Horrorland may seem like a scary, foreboding place...because it is!" That's what the supposed creator of horrorland, Madison Storm, says about his park. And it's true! This game is scary, but not too scary and loads of fun to play! The puzzles are challenging, and the graphics are great. It is in second person, where you are part of the game.As you travel around horrorland, going to places like Vampire Village, Horrorland Plaza, Valley of the Lost Kings, and Werewolf village, you'll battle the Werewolf, Mummy, and Dracula. You'll also interact with Lizzie, Luke, and Clay, the kids who have been whisked back to Horrorland in the middle of the night. You might get stuck on some of the puzzles, because they're tough, but not quite too hard. The only thing I don't like about this game is that the monsters are soooo realistic. This might seem like a good thing, but sometimes it's really creepy. I'm ten years old, have had the game for six years and I'm still scared of the Mummy! I'm a chicken, so don't think it's that bad! I would still buy this game. It's worth every penny!

Well, when I got this game I thought it would be something for my spare time... something for "little kids". When I played it, I got addicted. Some of the stuff is actually pretty creepy and at times confusing -- not what I expected. It keeps you on the edge of your seat, not to mention keeping your brain working.I think this game is really entertaining and I enjoy it a lot.. I would recommend it to many people.

even for adults! I used to play this game with my little sister years ago. I bought it thinking it would be a nice time waster; the puzzles are pretty fun. But, it will not work with windows XP so I could never play it

I got this when it came out over a decade ago, for Christmas I think. Recently my parents found an old laptop with Windows 98 that hasn't been used in years, but works fine for the most part. I've been playing this game on it, and I have to say its a very well made game. Keep in mind I read every book of the original Goosebumps series, so I am a bit biased, but what surprises me is how entertaining this stuff is after all of these years. I never did the part with the tunnels before, but it adds a whole new dimension to the game. Finishing the story with everyone intact is easy, but collecting everything isn't, and I'm determined to do it, just to see what happens. Being in the tunnels is like going up against 2-5 rancors at once... without weapons OR the force! Just your wits, and their lack thereof. It isn't tremendously hard but it does give me a rush, and the game itself is pretty spooky and realistic for the most part. Its one of the few I've ever seen that has integrated live action and animation so seamlessly, and this says a lot for something from 1996.

A Truly SPOOK-tacular Game/"Interactive Movie",

For those interested in the game's storyline history: this Dreamworks production directly sequels the continuity set down by the first Horrorland book written by R.L. Stine ("One Day At Horrorland") ONLY. It is not connected to the low-budget (but wonderful) Goosebumps TV episode, and it thankfully ignores the sub-par Goosebumps 2000 "Return To Horrorland" book (which included all the stupidity that making such a decision of your own free will would imply). Obviously, it is also not connected to the ongoing Horrorland book series or its websites currently being produced, though I have yet to read any of these. I can definitively say, however, that what we have here is distinct from all other lines of Goosebumps because, instead of the raw, regressive "horror" that the books and TV episodes went for, this video game takes the plot into an "action thriller" direction (which I like, as it allows the characters to use common sense, learn, and take some control).Getting to the "Escape From Horrorland" VG itself, I'd like to say this is one of my favorites of all time. To be fair, though, it might be better to call this an "interactive movie" instead of a "video game", since you can go around with some freedom playing the games and checking out the scary sights. There is a main story being played out for you movie-style to eventually draw you back, but it's one that you still participate in using your mouse cursor (which has been appropriately turned into a floating, creepy, disembodied hand). There's not much else I can say about the video game for "The Nightmare-iest Place On Earth" that the other reviewers haven't covered in terrific detail. But one piece of advice in case you decide to get this game: I didn't find the Horrorland sewer network entertaining at all. It's not necessary to the main game, the monster running around down there is almost impossible to dodge, and since it would interrupt the story to let you jump ahead to whatever part of the park you want, all you can get out of it are a few Horrorland tokens that you don't really need.

I received this game when I was six or so. My friend and I would spend countless weekends just exploring it and trying to win. It really was extremely ahead of it's time at release, and the puzzles aren't your every day simple kid stuff. Bottom line is, Horrorland is fun for all ages, intense, and absorbing. Pretty good for a 'kids' game, no?

I remember having this game as a child. I must have been 12 or so. I loved it in the 90s and here I am on Amazon. I rebought it about a month ago and loved it just as much as I did when I was a kid.

The game is great, but the people who delivered it stuffed it in a rickety old doorway on this cobwebb coated porch on the side of our house that no one ever steps foot on, so we didn't know it had arrived until weeks later. It's a kid's game but it's pretty entertaining.

Why aren't there more games like this!?!?!?,

This game is perfect for kids ages 5-10, with help. The graphics are fabulous and the monsters are perfectly scary, not cheesy at all, but there's a lot of comic relief too (check out the werewolf's driver's license). The puzzles are well constructed, and the gold tokens in unexpected places keep things interesting. We've had this game for years and my 9YO daughter is still scared of the mummy! Nancy Drew is her new favorite, but it's just not as over-the-top as Horrorland.
