Ok,... now, This item works well, if you place the clams on it properly. Just lay them in the proper position and make sure the blade's in the groove and press! Stright down, in one movement! It worked so well that I could finally open my own clams!!! YAY! I love it and it does work well, if you just use common sense and know your angles. lol It's fun!

I had an old one for over 30 years and finally wore it out. This is a great product and works well.

This is a non-functional object with shoddy cheap construction that won't open a clam of any size. Don't buy this piece of junk!!!!!

This product was made very cheaply and I was not able to use the product as intended. This Clam Shucker should not be sold, it does not work.

Firends have one that is 20 yesrs old, works great. the new one we bought does not have a sharp edge so instead of opening clams cleanly, the dull blade shatters the clams, pushing broken particles inside the clam. my husband will try to hone an edge onto it. otherwise useless

Thought maybe if I used it "just so" it might work. NOT! Floppy, and a rivet so you can't even tighten it. Flimsy metal, dull blade. It "opened" some clams but shredded the edges, or the shells just cracked. Either way, it created so many shell fragments that the clams were almost much inedible. Grrrr! I grew up near the Jersey shore and took clams for granted... until I moved to Tennessee! Can't order clams on the half-shell here for love or money. Finally realized if I wanted fresh clams, I'd have to shuck 'em myself. And let me tell you, they ain't cheap down here, and I sure didn't want to throw 'em away because of shell fragments!
So I switched to the Oxo Good Grips clam knife and the kevlar glove -- which I ordered with the R&M shucker just in case -- and the Oxo worked perfect, and easy! I used to watch my father shuck clams all the time but was always afraid to do it for fear of cutting my hands. Thought I'd try the "hands-free" shucker. Waste of money! Stick with a good old-fashioned clam knife with a sturdy and sharp blade, like the Oxo. And the kevlar glove put me at ease.

waste of money, won't open a 2 inch little neck never mind anything larger. I live in RI and have been shucking clams for over 50 years with a regular shucking knife, thought this would make it easier for large quanities, I was wrong. [...]

NO GOOD: METAL IS FLIMSY AND BENDS BUT DOESN'T OPEN THE CLAM,

I was so excited when I finally found something to shuck raw clams with since there's no way I can ever get them open with a clam knife. So you can imagine how disappointed I was when I first used it and the metal attached to the handle just immediately bent! There's no way I could use it for what it's intended for--sitting in back of my cabinet--guess I'll just throw it out!! WOULD WORK BETTER IF THE METAL WAS A HEAVIER, UNBENDABLE STEEL THAT COULD
