5.0 out of 5 stars A Versatile and Compelling New Racing Game

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun game, but short
This game is fun - the range & style of cars available is nice. The main thing that prevented me from giving it a higher score is that the story mode is too short. You will want to purchase a steering wheel controller to get the most out of this game, also.

R Racing Evolution is a terrificly neat game for the true racing game fanatic. Sadly, a lot of people will miss out on the R racing experience if they listen to what the uninformed idiots who write for the gamming magazines are saying about it - it seems the 'Need for Speed and Midnight Club' crowd find this game a bit too challenging. Unfortunately the reviews being written are being penned by general gamers - individuals who don't know the difference between a rally car or a prototype sports racer - (and don't have the decencey to admit they know absolutely nothing about drving a race car). This is a game with a great diversity of cars, a few really good tracks(Suzuka,Monaco,Phillips Island,a Very cool Targa Florio like tarmac/dirt track where you can run even the Bentley Prototype - and other less well known and imaginary circuits) and literally hundreds of different racing and time trial challenges which are huge fun - fairly challenging and beautiful to watch and analyze on replay. All the cars handle uniquely and can be fine tuned with an array of tuning and setup tools which really work nicely. The vintage and rally cars are a bit tricky to master at first, but there are built-in handling quirks particular to these cars which one begins to appreciate and understand after really playing the game. The rally cars can be drifted like no other car currently on any other racing game!. The vintage cars understeer and slide about as if on skinny tires - just like the real deal. The prototype Audi, Bentley and Dome are masterful creations of driving simulation and are gigantic fun to rocket about in. My only criticism is the races are generally too easy (even set in most difficult mode). But there are so many different driving activities to be enjoyed, this is a game which will have a place in your driving library for a long time. For max enjoyment one must use a Logitech force feedback wheel - preferably the new GT4 wheel with heavier and more precise feedback.

4.0 out of 5 stars not your gran turismo, but takes a diff. perspective on fun, December 14, 2003

i have to say i'm very pleased with the purchase of this game. although there are many reviewers out there that have given this game pretty mediocre scores, it all depends on what you really want out of the game.

if youre looking for a wide variety of cars to tune up, total realism, and racing countless race after another to earn money, then this might not be your game; however, if you are looking for a game with a great storymode, engaging gameplay, and wonderful electronic soundtrack, then this is it. similar to pilot chatter in acecombat 4, this game carries the same elements that made acecombat so intriguing. the graphics are nice as well.

if you were a fan of ridge racer, this might not exactly be your game.. but the fun is still definitley there. i have to emphasize again though, it all depends on what sort of fun youre looking for in the game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Under recognized game, September 4, 2004

I bought this game new from Electronics Boutique(...) . It was the cheapest game they had. At first, when I took it home I looked at the graphics and thought I got what I paid for. I almost returned it. Then my mother who doesn't play any games played this one with me and beat me. I started to appreciate the skill necessary to play the game. Although I am still not very good at it, I can certainly appreciate the game more. It has photo realistic cars, and beautiful 3d rendering techniques. It is graphically flawless. If I were to design a racing game it would at its best turn out like R Racing Evolution. (...)a fantastic game to try and conquer

5.0 out of 5 stars I'd actually give this game a 10+ \ ( ^0^ )/, January 24, 2008

Surprisingly I purchased this game at a RiteAid from their DVD rack. It was $20 bucks and since I just recently got my PS2 for Christmas I didn't have much games to play with it besides my EyeToy collection but my house is too dark to play it properly ! (I_I) I've always been a Racing game lover from the days of Gran Turismo 1 for the Good Old PlayStation. So I knew buying this game probably wont be a disappointment. I got it home and once I played a couple rounds I was pretty happy about it. The graphics are very nice and the game play is relatively competitive just the way I like it. You gotta be playing alot of Video Games to know how to appreciate a Good one and this is one of the Good ones. Go get it and hit the tracks ! You wont regret it !!

4.0 out of 5 stars R: Racing Evolution Review, January 1, 2004

Well, there's really not much on the bad side of this game. I really don't like how you have to buy the tracks to race them. Other than that, the graphics are unbelievable, the car performance is great, the control is not too shabby, and the pressure meter is awesome. I myself think every racing game should include something like that from now on. The talking (crew chief and other drivers) during the game is sometimes annoying and sometimes good advice. Need for Speed: Underground is not as great as this game so I'd purchase this instead.

PS- The only thing thats missing from this game is online play which would have made this game one of mt favorites. ENJOY PLAYING!

4.0 out of 5 stars A racing game with a decent story? Somebody pinch me!, January 3, 2011
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: R: Racing Evolution (Video Game)
R. Racing Evolution is one amazing racing game of it's time. The first thing I want to make clear, is that this isn't apart of the Ridge Racer series, which a lot of people assume is, so don't expect the easy drift button like in RR series. The controls {analog} is a bit stiff, but is manageable for turns and such. If you have a gaming wheel, that will be a plus, because some turns just can't be made without lowering your speed completely, or hitting a guardrail. The graphics are pretty decent, but It's no GT.

The story is pretty dull at first, but it doesn't miss, which means it will keep you entertain throughout the pointless races the story will throw at you before a big race. It isn't the best racing game, but for someone looking something new, or just looking for a old school racing game to mess with, this is the one.

4.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise, February 5, 2007

While this game has arcade features and eye candy like most other Namco games, fans of driving simulators will find it appealing thanks to a very good physics engine and a solid collection of real-world cars. This game has excellent replays, challenging courses (including 3 real-world courses), and graphics almost as good at Gran Turismo 3. There are hundreds of racing games out there for the PS2, but I was looking for something to supplement Gran Turismo, that also featured real cars, and challenging action without being frustrating. After many hours with Racing Evolution, I can now say that this is that racing game. "Total Immersion Racing" and "Tokyo Extreme Racer 3" are two other titles that were very appealing, but they didn't have a feel that approached Gran Turismo 3. This one does. So if you are keeping your PS2 or if you have a need for more games in the GT tradition, this is a solid choice.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Game, But....., December 14, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: R: Racing Evolution (Video Game)
I bought this game as something to tide me over until GT4 comes out next year. I like this game, but my problem is that I can't see how it's possible for a car that has less horse power than me can beat me in a race. I do intend to send a letter to Namco to address this issue with them. Other than that, it's a great game, and the graphics are top of the line. I like the fact that I can race the Audi R8 and the Bently EXP8, something that other race games (so far) can't claim. I tip my hat to Namco for pulling off the license agreement to get those cars in the game. I also think that there could've been more tracks added to race on, and the "radio communication" gets old after a while. That needed to be varied a little more. Otherwise I do suggest that you buy this game and decide for yourself. Otherwise, wait for GT4. WE ALL KNOW HOW GREAT THAT GAME WILL BE!
