The George Herbert of our Age,
By Gregory E. Griffith (Coshocton, Ohio United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: R.S. Thomas: Selected Poems (Hardcover)
R.S. Thomas is the most significant poet since Yeats. Welsh and an Anglican Priest, Thomas captures the realities of being a Christian in the last fifty years. While his setting is very specific his message is universal. His poetry connects us to the land, to people, and to the unique mystery that is God. Not since George Herbert, another Anglo-Welsh poet and priest, has there been a poet whose writings tell us much about faith and doubt, dispair and hope.R.S. is too little known, read even less. Start by reading "The Other." |
