Glenn Quinn's last movie,
By Michael Bolts (superior, wiusa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: R.S.V.P. (DVD)
Rick Otto plays Nick who is studying serial killers and gets too carried away thinking that he can stage the perfect and ultimate mass murder without getting nagged. He invites his friends over for a "going away" party for another friend who is leaving and one by one they vanish. This thriller also stars Jason Mewes (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Vulgar), Reno Wilson, Daniel Joseph, Jonathan Banks, Grace Zabriskie, Majandra Delfino (Tv's Roswell), Brandi Andres and the late Glenn Quinn (Tv's Angel, Campfire Tales) who passed away in December of 2002 from a heroine overdose which this being his last. Quinn and Otto spew out excellent performances and Jason Mewes does his usual Jay characterization. Those elements are the glue that holds this piece together along with the direction. Written by the Director.

Fans of the late Glenn Quinn already knew that this DVD would be a can't-miss, since "R.S.V.P." was Quinn's last film. The movie itself is a fairly standard tongue-in-cheek thriller, with a cast that all seemed to be having a good time gently tweaking the conventions of the genre (including Jason "Jay" Mewes doing basically the same character as always), but as often happens, the real strength of this DVD is in the "special features." The deleted scenes show the viewer an entirely new perspective on the movie and its characters, particularly Hal Evans, the character played by Quinn. In pleasant contrast to the "Angel" season 1 DVD released earlier this year, the production commentary acknowledges Quinn's contribution to the film and his untimely death. Make sure to watch the production commentary all the way to the end, past the very end of the final credits. Too bad we'll never see that sequel.

Quality Horror,

To tell you the truth, once this movie got going(yes, it was a *little* slow-going at first), I had a hard time watching it, not because it was bad though. It was a very well-done horror film actually. The plot is as follows: A guy is throwing a party for his best friend whom is now dating his ex-girlfriend, as the party go's on people keep wondering where the guy is that he's throwing the party for, because he's just not showing up. But he keeps reassuring them that he'll be there. But he soon begins picking his party guest off one by one. I wont give anything else away, and maybe it doesn't sound like the most inventive film, but it has real emotions and brains involved so you know its not your average slasher film, but if you're one who does like slasher films, you'll probably hate this movie because it is a *little* bit slow-going at first, but once it gets going it doesn't stop. Some of the kills are fairly gruesome, and the lead character, oh, he was great, I had a hard time watch because of those to element, but that's a good thing.! So, if you enjoy quality horror films, you'll enjoy R.S.V.P. . *Enjoy* God Bless ~Amy

Its just a time killer,
This review is from: R.S.V.P. (DVD)
This film is not what I expected after reading the reviews on here. The film drew me in and the writer did a great job of taking us into this laid back party with about a dozen stoners and some of the more intellectual dialoque was interesting. Yet, the main premise of the movie the serial killings failed. They were yawners. Nothing groundbreaking, not suspenseful, nothing to make you think. As for the end it was just plain st-pid. I wouldn't have paid the 75 cents plus shipping that I did for it if I had known. I would only recommend this film if you happen to come across it on tv and have the time to kill- for atleast it probably won't bore you though it won't necessarily entertain you either.

I'm not going to analyze this film to death,(no pun intended), as that's already been done. I just wanted to point out a few things that I was struck by. First, this is an entertaining horror film. Not a slash-a-minute gorefest, but still with its' scary moments - and it holds the interest with the acting. I was not overly impressed with Rick Ottos' performance. It was O.K., but I thought it was a somewhat less believable version of Christian Bales' performance in American Psycho. Coincidence? Maybe. I was struck by the excellent cinematography, especially the exterior scenes, and by the SOUNDTRACK! No one has mentioned the soundtrack, but it was ultra-cool. It would be great to spin at your cocktail party, really lively and hip. Alas, no soundtrack CD available.

One of Glenn's last roles.,
This review is from: R.S.V.P. (DVD)
Being an Angel fan, when I saw Glenn (Doyle) Quinn's name listed I had to see it , I really didn't expect much because I hadn't even heard of the film until after his death, but it was a pretty good movie, worth watching i/m/o & in this one at least you don't know for certain whose involved in the crimes & who isn't until the end. Some of it you see but the way it is cut you don't see the whole truth until the end. I enjoyed this film.

Rick Otto (The Good Humor Man, Phantoms) plays Nick who is studying serial killers and gets too carried away thinking that he can stage the perfect and ultimate mass murder without getting nagged. He invites his friends over for a "going away" party for another friend who is leaving and one by one they vanish. This thriller also stars Jason Mewes (Dogma, Vulgar), Reno Wilson (City of Industry, Whiteboyz), Nora Zeheter (American Pie, Tart), Jeanne Chinn (Totally Blonde, Lethal Weapon 4), Lucas Babin (Brick, School of Rock) Daniel Joseph (Locusts, In & Out), Jonathan Banks (48 Hrs., Dark Blue), Grace Zabriskie (The Grudge, Armageddon), Majandra Delfino (Tv's Roswell, Celeste in the City), Brandi Andres (Tomcats, Kiss The Girls) and the late Glenn Quinn (Tv's Angel, Campfire Tales) who passed away in December of 2002 from a heroine overdose which this being his last. Quinn and Otto dish out excellent performances and Jason Mewes does his usual thing, which is still good. Those elements are the glue that holds this piece together along with the direction. Written by the Director. Modern day remake of Alfred Hitchcock's Rope which had James Stewart in the role as the Professor.

Bravo! Clever Entertaining Classic,

An intelligent twist and commentary on the exploitative horror flick genre. This intelligent, entertaining, and beautifully shot Galluzzo classic is destined to be taught at film schools across the country. Losely based on Hitchcock's Rope, this cinematic, metaphoric 'bullfight' demands repeated viewing. Clever hints and tells have been shrewn throughout with an attention to detail worthy of Literature. Bravo!

Fun for the whole family,
This review is from: R.S.V.P. (DVD)
The only reason I watched this movie was for the great Jay Mewes. I was delightfully surprised to discover that the movie was more than just your average cheesy teen horror/thriller, with bad acting, cheap camera work, and an unbelievably dumb plot and ending. I was happy to discover the incredible capturing of young adults and those insane on a murderous rampage. The realism was superb. Though the beginning started out a little slow I am happy to give my seal of approval and knowledge that for all you independence lovers out there will enjoy this movie.

MINUS five stars, actually,

This review is from: R.S.V.P. (DVD)
Bought this DVD to view Quinn's last movie. The product is a disservice to him the other two adults in the otherwise amateurish cast.
With pretensions as an homage to Hitchcock's ROPE (and an apparent unfamiliarity with the even more famous Agatha Christie favorite AND THEN THERE WERE NONE/ TEN LITTLE ... INDIANS), this is NOT, as others here have described, a "horror" film but merely a "slasher" "film." Made for (and apparently by) stoned frat boys, it contains not one character, situation, or patchwork of "dialogue" that is genuine or convincing. Quinn actually plays the Jimmy Stewart role from ROPE, which would have been far more interesting had it been assigned to Banks. The amount of substance abuse celebrated ad tedium in what passes (or flunks) as plot action suggests a work environment before Quinn's death by drug overdose that is too sinister to be merely ironic. If one is too drunk or bonged out to know what's on the screen, this tripe might rate the one star allotted to it. And the only thing more inane than the "movie" itself is the accompanying commentary. |
