Book Description

August 30, 2001
This book explores porcelain wares produced by the Reinhold Schlegelmilch Porcelain Factory [marked R. S. Prussia], of Suhl, Germany, and sold to America from 1888 through 1900. The wonderfully molded and decorated plates and platters, tea sets, pitchers, clocks, and decorative objects are described with over 760 beautiful color images. An entire chapter is devoted to the company's charming toy china sets. Displayed are wares formed from a variety of molds (including Fleur-de-Lis and Melon) and patterns (outline transfer, King George, and Coraline patterns, to name a few). Newly discovered mold patterns are included, along with a history of the company's early operations, wholesale and trade catalog pages illustrating wares exported to the United States, the manufacturer's marks employed during this early period, a bibliography, and several appendices. This book will guide all collectors of Victorian porcelain to recognize the early pieces marked R. S. Prussia.

Editorial Reviews

About the Author

Carol Marple has been interested in antique china since the early 1950s. Intrigued by unusual molds and handpainted decoration, she started a special collection including R.S. Prussia ceramics. Since retiring from Syntex, Leland Marple has turned his analytical skills toward learning more about Carol's china collection, and about R.S. Prussia in general. Generating factual information about the china to be found by collectors today has been a multi-year project. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best RS Prussia Book out yet!, November 16, 1999
By A Customer
I picked the book up this weekend & it was love at firstsight! I have been a collector of RSP for 10 years & a club memberfrom the start of q collecting. I have used the RSP books as my guide for molds & authenticating unmarked pieces. This book has shown so many new molds, & has so many original catalog cuts included to add to interest. The pictures were clear,& I like the est. price being included with the description to save page filpping! Enjoyed "The Early Years" as well. Thanks for you time well spent on this! END
