5.0 out of 5 stars Flo Rida releases an Excellent CD
I have to say I am very surprised to read the bad reviews of this album. I buy lots of CDs, lots and lots of them, and this is one of the very best I have bought lately. This album rocks and moves from the beginning until the end. There is no bad song on here. I have to wonder what people were wanting or expecting from it. I never really was a big fan of Flo Rida, mainly because I think all his singles are extremely overrated. Still, I decided to check out his latest album, R.O.O.T.S.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flo Rida releases an Excellent CD, April 10, 2009
This review is from: R.o.o.t.s (Route Of Overcoming The Struggle) (Audio CD)
I have to say I am very surprised to read the bad reviews of this album. I buy lots of CDs, lots and lots of them, and this is one of the very best I have bought lately. This album rocks and moves from the beginning until the end. There is no bad song on here. I have to wonder what people were wanting or expecting from it. Are they taking the title too literally and expecting a boring album with Flo Rida talking about the bad things of "overcoming the struggle" instead of realizing that maybe he is speaking of another "route to overcoming the struggle?" There are after all different routes available. I expect that more good reviews will come in as more people hear it. I for one highly recommend it. I have listened to it all the way through several times now and I expect to listen to it several more times. That is not true of many of the CDs I have in my large collection of various types of music. Also while the song "Right Round" is a takeoff of the old song by Dead or Alive I don't think the two need to be compared. They are different songs and if you want the Dead or Alive song, then go buy the Dead or Alive CD. Hey, I have it. Don't buy Flo Rida so you can make a comparison where there is none. The main thing I have learned from the reviews of this album so far is to not depend on these reviews for my purchases of CDs in the future.

4.0 out of 5 stars Filled With Great Hooks and Hit Singles, April 3, 2009
This review is from: R.o.o.t.s (Route Of Overcoming The Struggle) (Audio CD)
Given the heavy sampling of past hits and the endless parade of all-star guests, it is tempting to write this album off as nothing more than a guilty pleasure. But really, that would be selling Flo Rida a little short, because he accomplishes what he intends to do here - create about an hour of hooks, driving beats, and melodic jams that will be tearing up the airwaves and get heavy rotation in clubs all summer long. There is nothing new or innovative here, and actually, in some form or another, you've probably heard all of these songs before. But man, this guy can bring the hooks. He may not be original, but this album entertains, and it is impossible to sit still while it is playing. My only real criticism is that, by looking at the album cover, one would be inclined to think Flo Rida would elaborate a little more on his roots and the struggles he has overcome. He plays it a little too safe at times. But hey, lets face it, everything in music has been done already...and if you are not at all concerned with trying to reinvent the wheel, why not create an album that simply rocks? What I'm trying to say is that Flo Rida is not Prince, and he knows that. And rather than trying to stretch his talents too far and letting down his longtime fans, he does what he does best here and it works.

Whatever Flo Rida lacks by way of innovation, he makes up for that with a stubborn consistency and a knack for huge, killer hooks. 3.5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Full Album in a long time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, May 11, 2009
By
This is the best album from top to bottom that we've heard in a long time. If you love beats and just down right off the chain cuts, this is the album for you! There is about 10 songs that could be singles off this. R.O.O.T.S is a 9.0!

3.0 out of 5 stars 3-1/2 stars -- Slightly above-average, January 3, 2010

I never really was a big fan of Flo Rida, mainly because I think all his singles are extremely overrated. Still, I decided to check out his latest album, R.O.O.T.S.

While the production on the album is pretty much on point for the most part, most of the songs don't really stand out all that much. The only song that comes close is the necessary sexual-song-featuring-Ne-Yo, "Be on You". "Finally Here" doesn't even have him rapping on beat, and speaking of that, "Never" has sudden shift changes from rapping to talking. And the obligatory end-of-album remembrance track "Rewind" doesn't help or hurt the album.

There's also Flo's choice of samples on already questionable songs, like that Tandy voice on "Touch Me", Dead or Alive's "You Spin Me `Round" on "Right Round", and Eiffel 65's "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" on "Sugar" (and the latter changes the whole thing around, as the original words were meant to describe the beat while Flo's interpolation makes no sense at all). Things are also less than impressive when it comes to talking about strippers, like on "Gotta Get It" and the aforementioned "Right Round".

R.O.O.T.S. isn't a terrible album, but it would really only sound good in the club. B.I.F.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
After buying one other CD from this artist. I decided to purchase the other CD. It was as the first one...ending liking all the songs -or at least most of them. He is not shouting/yelling type, so I can actually understand the words :)

I am a middle aged white female who is just starting to appreciate rap/hip hop music. I bought this CD because I kept hearing Be On You on the radio and couldn't get the song out of my head. What a wonderful surprise to find that I love the entire CD! I can not get through a day without listening to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars better than expected., December 10, 2011

This review is from: R.o.o.t.s (Route Of Overcoming The Struggle) (Audio CD)
this is the only hip-hop [pop] album i ever bought. i think this is the best compliment i can give the album. it's rare that i like so many songs in a single album, but how can i not love R.O.O.T.S., sugar, jump, finally here, or right round?

lines such as "I cant hate were I'm from, Coz were I'm from made me" move me, touch me. and then, sugar and jump are silly happy, the kind of songs that get me to put that extra effort into my workout with great rhythm.

great.

I purchased this CD after hearing "Right Round" on the satellite radio station at work. I love this CD. It is definitely his best to come. I love it, even a true gangsta (Mr. Hard Core) such as my boy friend loved it. There are some really heart felt songs on this album. I recommend it to all such parties!!!
