Quite simply the best game soundtrack of all time...,
By Nick (Birmingham, UK.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: R4 Ridge Racer Type 4 (Audio CD)
OK, the only soundtrack to make me completely replay a game. The tunes have simply gone from strength to strength throughout the series. In terms of atmosphere, this eclipses every other game soundtrack i have heard. I can't believe that the Namco team spent so much time and effort on a soundtrack...but thanks. The 25 track album includes all of the great racing tracks, personal favourites of mine include Naked Glow, Move Me, Burnin' Rubber and One More Win, which features the brilliant, though little known, Kimara Lovelace. There's not one track I actually dislike, even the crazy Pac Man remix! I don't know what else to say....I'm listening to the album right now, it's just awesome. The mix of dance, trance, techno and a bit of rock make it the most rounded Ridge Racer soundtrack yet. It's probably the best Ridge GAME too, as Ridge on the Playstation 2 didn't max out the console's potential like this did (well, it was a launch title). It's also great to listen to on the road, if that helps. It would also help if you played the game, to familiarise yourself with the Ridge spirit, although its not necessary. What else.....erm.....buy it. The next soundtrack in of the series, Ridge Racer 5, is by a different Namco sound team, and with it comes a revert back to the old Ridge Racer style. Not that I'm criticising that style, it's just that the RR4 album is so unique, the culmination of a few years experimenting led to a classic, in my humble opinion of course.

Definitely sets the mood!,
By Karin Kanzuki (San Francisco, CA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: R4 Ridge Racer Type 4 (Audio CD)
This a spectacular soundtrack. You don't even need to be a Ridge Racer Type 4 fan to love the music. An interesting refreshing mix of Japanese house, acid jazz, dance, techno, and a touch of lounge beats make a tasty smoothy. Every track is made for a specific reason, with loud, fast paced, hectic funkified beats, and cool, calm, yet invigorating tracks for certain parts of the game. Everything has a feel to it, and the music never seems awkward or out of place. The music will motivate you to drive REALLY fast any day. Don't listen to the music if you're planning to drive to the store sometime soon! Namco is known for composing high energy tracks, especially for their Ridge Racer series (where the music REALLY started getting better after Rage Racer). This is no exception, as the music has evolved to the point where you don't even need to be a Ridge Racer fan to enjoy the music. I love it, all my friends love it, and it's a soundtrack you don't want to be without.

Get On The PJ's, Warm Up Some Tea, and Turn the Lights Down Low,
By Mr. Render (Beaufort, NC) - See all my reviews

This soundtrack to a racing game a decade old will not be what anyone will expect. The tracks range from the calm and relaxing to funky guitar rifts, but these aren't ear drum busters, nor head banging tunes... these are for the ladies. Ok, Ok, maybe not but if you have some down time, want to read a book, and kick off your shoes this is the CD to do it to. Doesn't matter if you played the game or not, the music will speak for itself. Never mind the price tag, buy it, put it in your CD player and turn it on mellow.
