5.0 out of 5 stars Quite simply the best game soundtrack of all time..., March 26, 2003

This review is from: R4 Ridge Racer Type 4 (Audio CD)
OK, the only soundtrack to make me completely replay a game. The tunes have simply gone from strength to strength throughout the series. In terms of atmosphere, this eclipses every other game soundtrack i have heard. I can't believe that the Namco team spent so much time and effort on a soundtrack...but thanks. The 25 track album includes all of the great racing tracks, personal favourites of mine include Naked Glow, Move Me, Burnin' Rubber and One More Win, which features the brilliant, though little known, Kimara Lovelace. There's not one track I actually dislike, even the crazy Pac Man remix! I don't know what else to say....I'm listening to the album right now, it's just awesome. The mix of dance, trance, techno and a bit of rock make it the most rounded Ridge Racer soundtrack yet. It's probably the best Ridge GAME too, as Ridge on the Playstation 2 didn't max out the console's potential like this did (well, it was a launch title). It's also great to listen to on the road, if that helps. It would also help if you played the game, to familiarise yourself with the Ridge spirit, although its not necessary. What else.....erm.....buy it. The next soundtrack in of the series, Ridge Racer 5, is by a different Namco sound team, and with it comes a revert back to the old Ridge Racer style. Not that I'm criticising that style, it's just that the RR4 album is so unique, the culmination of a few years experimenting led to a classic, in my humble opinion of course.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely sets the mood!, April 4, 2001

This a spectacular soundtrack. You don't even need to be a Ridge Racer Type 4 fan to love the music. An interesting refreshing mix of Japanese house, acid jazz, dance, techno, and a touch of lounge beats make a tasty smoothy. Every track is made for a specific reason, with loud, fast paced, hectic funkified beats, and cool, calm, yet invigorating tracks for certain parts of the game. Everything has a feel to it, and the music never seems awkward or out of place. The music will motivate you to drive REALLY fast any day. Don't listen to the music if you're planning to drive to the store sometime soon! Namco is known for composing high energy tracks, especially for their Ridge Racer series (where the music REALLY started getting better after Rage Racer). This is no exception, as the music has evolved to the point where you don't even need to be a Ridge Racer fan to enjoy the music. I love it, all my friends love it, and it's a soundtrack you don't want to be without.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get On The PJ's, Warm Up Some Tea, and Turn the Lights Down Low, April 1, 2007

This review is from: R4 Ridge Racer Type 4 (Audio CD)
This soundtrack to a racing game a decade old will not be what anyone will expect. The tracks range from the calm and relaxing to funky guitar rifts, but these aren't ear drum busters, nor head banging tunes... these are for the ladies. Ok, Ok, maybe not but if you have some down time, want to read a book, and kick off your shoes this is the CD to do it to. Doesn't matter if you played the game or not, the music will speak for itself. Never mind the price tag, buy it, put it in your CD player and turn it on mellow.

5.0 out of 5 stars How Unique, July 18, 2003
By
This review is from: R4 Ridge Racer Type 4 (Audio CD)
Although the Soundtrack of R4 is little known to others then the Final Fantasy soundtrack series, I still have to say that this soundtrack is one of a kind...unique...

I first started playing this game back 3 year ago when my cousin brought a fake copy from his friend back home for his PS...At first, I wasn't concentrating on what the music was all about in this game. But after the third day of playing...the music...I saw the intro vedio to R4. The music came out with a blast in my mind as I watched the intro vedio, "Urban Fragment," With the Keyboard starting and vibes starting out and the lyrics, it blew my breathe away. After playing more cause I wanted to hear the music, I discoverd that much of the tracks in the game blew my head of. Not only Urban Fragment was a masterpeice, but the rest of the tracks as well, so many combonation....so many......All 25 tracks has its own uniqness....

I decided to tape it on the tape recorder...I put the speakers to Maximum...and had the tape recorder ready. Dissapointment came when i dicoverd the lack of clearence and sound quality. As you can see i was obbsessed with the music. I bought mine few months ago..(thanks to the miracle of "Internet") and I loved it.
When I was in Mt Fuji, Japan....I would pop this CD into my Dad's car....looking outside the scenery....this track brings the intimate feeling. (makes a good driving music)

The Technoish-jazzy feel with a combonation of, fusion, Acid Jazz, lounge and vibes etc. It gave me a diffent aspect to what Techno can bring. The Namco team pulled it off...they spent so much time on the project, and needless to say, they didn't waste there bullets.

P:S. I would not compare it to the Final Fantasy seris soundtrack on Mr. Uematsu's project becasue this album cannot be compared....it's two differnt syles......2 great styles of music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ridge Racer Type 4, June 16, 2010
This review is from: R4 Ridge Racer Type 4 (Audio CD)
Namco's Ridge Racer series offers some of the best techno soundtracks for games that you'll ever hear. I believe that the first game that really raised the bar and made Ridge Racer music worth owning is this CD right here, the soundtrack for Ridge Racer Type 4. R4 is probably the most popular soundtrack of the whole Ridge Racer series... And for good reason. R4 makes great use of drum n bass and jazz influences in the songs. This makes a very relaxing yet charged listening experience. The synths and styles used are very nostalgic to gaming in the 90s. If you're in the USA, then this soundtrack fetches an arm and a leg... But collectors and hardcore fans will want to put this album towards the top of their list for Namco soundtracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars r4 soundtrack review, July 9, 2005
This review is from: R4 Ridge Racer Type 4 (Audio CD)
What can I say about this soundtrack that hasn't already been said? All the tracks are extremely tight, but 'Move Me' and 'Lucid Rhythms' stick out for me. Basically, I love the actual Ridge Racer Type 4 video game partly because the music was so good, so I had to buy the soundtrack so I could really drive to these beats. I think the reason I like this soundtrack so much is because it's so varied in its musical genres. There's some rock, some pop, some jazz, some techno and it really sneaks up on you. When I played the game I didn't anticipate the music to be decent--let alone blow my mind. If you love music or driving to music, then I recommend the Ridge Racer Type 4 soundtrack. I also recommend the soundtracks to Katamari Damacy and Street Fighter III: Third Strike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blows my mind!!, May 17, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: R4 Ridge Racer Type 4 (Audio CD)
I use to play this game all time just for the music and at that time, I didn't know anything about Game Music until this game came out. After playing quick games here and there, I started noticing the music, particulary, Pearl Blue Soul and Motor Species. It's pure driving music.A totally different experience from Conventional Music that you listen to on the road. Namco really put it down with this soundtrack. 25 songs of different music, depending on your mood. It's one of my favorite CD's and I listen to it all the time!! Buy it!! You won't regret it!! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly masterful soundtrack, July 10, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: R4 Ridge Racer Type 4 (Audio CD)
The first time I heard the soundtrack, I was impressed. There is so much variation between tracks that it will just appeal to so many. There is everything on it...Acid Jazz, Techno, Trance, Nice Vocals and a really good guitar solo on Move Me.

Particular tracks to listen to are Move Me, Naked Glow, Lucid Rythms and Silhouette Dance.

Move Me - This is a great track which has some really decent drum programming and has a good varying degree of melody to stop it from being boring (which many techno/trance tracks lack!!)

Naked Glow - This little Acidic number is a real great track to just chillout to. It has a fantastic bass line which keeps you drawn in and has a simple melody to further the track.

Lucid Rythms - Probably the most chilled out and relaxing on the whole album. This is a truly amazing track. The soft overpowering melody is all that is required to keep the track going.

Silhouette Dance - Another 'Chilled-Out' track. This has a beautiful soft tone to the track and is a good choice if you are coming back from a hard days work.

Overall This album is fantastic. It has ALL(!) music from the game (even those little sound samples) and is probably my favourite album. If you are slightly unsure about buying it 'cos of the price tag, then I say this "...you get a CD packed with 25 tracks that is truly and unmistakably fantastic album. You need not play the game to enjoy this!" (oh and I have a feeling this will probably be taken out of production soon)

This CD is one of the best racing affiliated CDs I have listened to in a long time. Its fast paced with lots of different pacedtracks throughout the CD compliments the game or a party perfectly. Can't waot for Raidge Racer V to come out. Listen to this CD and it puts behind the wheel and makes you want to race. I already own this CD and I am buying it again for my dad who just bought a new car and I thought this would be the perfect CD to compliment the car and it is! Trust Me.
