I got a Reiker Model 22200 for free & that was too expensive! I wish I had known how poorly designed it is before I had committed to install it - I would have gladly paid double for the Raco Model VQFH that I used on my next installation. The key difference is that the Raco uses carriage bolts to secure the box to the brace, so you can get them REALLY TIGHT like they should be when you are suspending anything overhead, while the 22200 just used regular bolts with lockwashers - which spin when they are tightened very much. Fortunately I was able to get into the attic to re-tighten the bolts from above - but that may not always be possible & the alternative will be to start over - or trash it & go get the good one. I expect Raco uses the same bolts on this one as on the VQFH.

I was sure someone had a solution to the problem of finding a loose metal or, worse, plastic ceiling box holding up a ceiling fan. I pulled out the old box, intending to replace it with an old-work box and forgo the fan. But when I found this brace, I bought one and it really does the job. If you can't get access above the existing hole (first floor ceiling, etc.), this installs easily and locks firmly in place, all through the old hole. All the pix show the box centered between joists, but you're just as likely as I was to find the existing box was tacked against a joist. No problem - this works fine with the box hard against a joist. Just make sure the threaded end is positioned opposite the hole. You may have to hold up the "feet" on the hole end while you tighten the horizontal pole if the hole is very close to the joist.
The only thing that prevented this from installing in ten minutes was the plastic bushing supplied for the cable. I don't know how you can pull the wire easily through the bushing - it wants to slide to one side or the other of the bushing and jam up. I finally got it mostly up on the cable and snapped in.

I am 64 years old, and i hate going up into the attic crawl space. I didn't buy this product here by the way,.... it was a spur of the moment project..But , i can say it's sturdy!, I love this product. Easy to use. Hardest part was getting old junction box out and 3sets of wiring then putting this and wires back in their place. The only thing i wish this had was side panel kick outs.

Overall i liked it :) and yes i would recommend this product if installing i ceiling fan

Just what I needed to replace a light fixture in the kitchen. Previous owner installed a ceiling fixture without a box. It had gone unnoticed until I decided to replace the fixture. I did not want to go crawling into the attic space so this was just what I needed.
