5.0 out of 5 stars A Respectful way to parent
There are so many parenting books that don't help parents respect their children. This books gives practical advice on how to respectfully raise children who are responsible. It was well written with many practical ideas.

2.0 out of 5 stars not what i thought
Something about having "family meetings" and letting a child decide what the family should do for fun doesn't strike a cord with me.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Works, Try It, March 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It takes a courageous and secure parent to try this, but it does work. It came from trial and error, what worked is what is recommended in the book. The basic philosophy comes from Alfred Adler, but the book is not philosophy, but rather a practical implementation that basically comes from Rudolf Dreikurs Children: The Challenge : The Classic Work on Improving Parent-Child Relations--Intelligent, Humane & Eminently Practical (Plume) Dinkmeyer adds a bit of philosophy about egalatarian relations, but make no mistake about it, the parents are in charge here, they just have to listen. The gist of the Parenting with Love and Logic Books also came from Adler via Dreikurs. Dinkmeyer et al also put out the STEP parenting books, but those books are so simplified that they are not too useful. This book is useful, but beware, the parent may have to start doing something differently, but that different thing will be easier than constantly struggling with kids (or with a spouse for that matter)
