This thing is a tank, it's not in any danger of breaking. Another reviewer felt it was over-engineered and gave it a bad rating because of that, I don't agree with his rating, but I can see where he's coming from. The main thing I'd point out is that assembly holds the GPS a fair distance away from the handle bar which may be make or break with you (see video). I'm not sure how much vibration or shock a GPS unit can take, so I would have like to have seen some kind suspension or shock absorption considering it's size.

I've used two other handlebar mounts to secure Garmin GPS devices to my dirt bike's bars. This is the first one that's actually impressed me.

The RAM mount holds the GPS right where you want it with very little vibration.

You can quickly adjust the bracket's arm to position the GPS wherever you want it (almost).

The mount itself (the part that actually holds the GPS) is firm enough to securely hold the GPS with no worries that it might fall out, but it's also really simple to insert and remove the GPS. The top fingers of the mount spread apart with a little pressure and the GPS just slides out (no tools or adjustments required).

My only complaint is that the bracket's arm swivels to any position you want, but once you have it positioned, you can't necessarily rotate the GPS in every direction (tilt up/down, tilt side to side, and rotate clockwise/counterclockwise), so you sometimes have to compromise between the angle of the GPS and the position of the arm. The workable positions aren't infinite, but there are enough good positions that it's not hard to find one that's OK.

I'm not an engineer, so I don't know how they could improve that without sacrificing the security of the bracket arm's connection and the ease of adjustment.

So it's actually 4.75 stars, but I'll give it a 5.

Purchased this product due to the fact that I didn't know what I really needed. The only reason I didn't give this product a 5 star was due to the u-bolt that mounts it to the handle bars wasn't coated with anything, so the handle bars will probable have a scratch when I take it off. The product works great for my Garmin Etrex Legend. I used it for several long rides and it was nice to be able to adjust it to any angle. This is a nice item that works well.

I thought it was a great product for what it is. It is a molded piece of plastic, it has a metal mounting system, and installs with two bolts. I have a machine shop and was going to machine up an aluminum housing but after seeing this thing it just looked simple and easy. Why spend 4 hours machining one when you can get this one for $30.

Went on a ride this last weekend, it performed great. The only recommendation I have is to put your gps in a ziplock bag or wrap in cling wrap. I use mine for dirt bike riding. The GPS was filthy by the time I was done. I know its water proof and I can rinse it off but still, wrap it up and it will keep the screen scratch free and clean. Other than that everything worked great, I do serious trail riding and the mount never moved and you can tell your gps is held in there really well. I crashed once and it didnt pop out so I am satisfied.

I would definitely buy another one of these if this one breaks but I dont see it breaking anytime soon. Oh and one other rating said to be careful removing the unit from the mount becuase it pulls at the rubber strip around the outside of the unit, this is true. Just flex the arm out a little further when installing or removing your gps.

I mounted my Garmin etrex Venture HC to the handlebar of my Yamaha XT225 dualsport motorcycle using this RAM mount.
Installation was straightforward, and the ball mount let's me adjust to many different positions. This was really helpful, as free space is scarce on the handlebar, limiting my options for where to attach it.
This mount holds my GPS unit firmly, allowing no noticeable vibration. I even dropped my bike at 25mph when I hit a patch of ice on a dirt road, and the GPS stayed perfectly still, out of harm's way. I am impressed.
I also like how easy it is to remove my GPS unit from the mount. When I park the bike in public, I do not want to leave the GPS out in the open for someone to snag, and removing it from this mount is as easy as pulling open the two tabs at the top.
Great product!

Great mount for getting rid of the vibration that the stock Garmin handle bar mount had. Mounted on a 2008 Kawasaki KLR 650, the old mount would shake so much the Legend would shut off. Now with the Ram Mount, it's steady and no more shaking or shut downs.

The unit overall works pretty well. Holds firm and looks nice. I didn't really like the lower mounting hardware (U bolts, nuts), it seemed to be a little less than the rest of the unit, thats why I took one star, but it works OK. I would buy again for sure. Lots of positions are a plus. The biggest drawback is that the GPS made for this unit has a screen that is too small to see much when on a moving motorcycle, but of course this is not a problem with this mount.

I bought this for my ATV. I strongly suggest going to the Ram Mount website first. After mounting I found that this unit is for color etrex models. I have a black and white model so I had to order a new cradle. The Ram Mount website does a great job of letting you know what you need. I am not displeased with the performance once I got the correct cradle.

The video review for this product is right-on. I've heard lots of positive comments for RAM products and this one does not disappoint. There's no instructions for mounting the holder, but it's pretty obvious once you pull out all the parts. The only minor issue is that the paint on the nuts gets a little scratched up when installing, but that's neither here-nor-there. Does what it's suppposed to do, and isn't cheap plastic junk. That alone is worth the $30.

Very easy to install. Solid product works great on the Handle bar of my Polaris 850 XP. Just what I was looking for and also was easy to order.
