built tough and fits well,

This review is from: RAM Mounting Systems RAM-HOL-GA26U Plastic Cradle for Garmin Nuvi 710, 750, 755T, 760, 765T, 770, 775T, 780, 785T (Electronics)
The cradle fits my Nuvi 760 perfectly. That is all I want in a cradle -- zero movement of things that I put in it.
Perhaps, a bit more protection from the elements wouldn't hurt, because Nuvis are not very well sealed, but in case of a rain a simple ziploc bag pulled over the unit will protect it just fine, and the windshield does not let the bugs and debris to hit the setup, so I think I'll be OK.

I'm using this with a Ram mount system on my 2007 Goldwing GL1800. This mount fits like a glove. I have no worries about the Nuvi comming out. Also to my surprise, they've molded this so that you leave the Garmin mount that snaps onto the back of the unit, so your able to plug the traffic receiver into it and have it in this Ram mount. Nothing substitutes for a "Ram Mount"!! These things Rock!!

I have been researching a mounting solution for my Garmin NUVI 765T on my Harley for a while (not as easy an one would think). The NUVI is "not designed for motorcycle use" (from Garmin Tech), and there were power considerations, since the unit battery only lasts a couple of hours. I decided on this cradle with RAM Mounting Systems RAM-B-149ZU Double Handlebar Mount (also from Amazon). Installation was easy and I was very pleased by the design.
A little background is necessary in order to truly appreciate the genius behind this product design. Garmin NUVI GPS units come with a cradle that has the power plug receptacle, and have a mini USB socket and another cord for data transfer with your PC. The cradle is not designed for the vibration of open road use and is not compatible with any handlebar mounting system I was able to find anyway. This would seem to mean I had to use the mini USB socket to power the unit. Not just any cig lighter - mini USB will work because there are 5 terminals: 12V, GND, Data+, Data-, and a special "Device ID" pin that requires a special connection or the NUVI thinks it is in "data transfer mode" which prevents normal use. I was able to borrow a Garmin cig-mini USB cable for this weekend, but during installation I discovered that not only does this secure cradle provide access to the SD card, mini USB, earphone jack, mic, and speaker, but it also has a recessed back that (get this) ACCEPTS THE ORIGINAL GARMIN CRADLE AND CORD! This cradle actually nests the original OEM cradle, which means I can still benefit from the FM traffic receiver in the original cord! The mini USB connection works also, but remember you need a proper cord (with an 18k Ohm resistance between the ID pin and ground), and this product avoids this additional expense if you don't have one. What an absolutely brilliant solution for a very real problem! THANK YOU RAM!
