5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Family Game Book for the Holidays!!!!!!
A few weeks ago, I attended a family reunion and was looking forwarded to 48 hours of uninterrupted boredom. After the intial small talk, my sister pulled out this book "The R.A.T." and the entire family, from my 85 year old grandmother to my 10 year old niece, played this game. What I thought would be a tedious weekend turned out to be a lot of fun. We took...

3.0 out of 5 stars doesn't want to be corrected
I dived into the middle of this book and found it great fun. I also found a few wrong answers. I got really turned off when I read the introduction, in which the author makes it clear that he does not want to hear about any errors in his book.
I think someone writing a book on how to get along in life should be aware of the importance of willing to correct errors...

We took the questions in the book and turned it into a trivial pursuit type game. I recommend this book to anyone who is either entertaining the family or going home to the family for holidays. Great Book!

This is something that every parent should go over with their kids during their high school years. It's great and useful information. I wish I had something this great before I went off to college. Definitely buy a copy!

I think someone writing a book on how to get along in life should be aware of the importance of willing to correct errors made and should be grateful to have mistakes pointed out to him.
After reading that introduction, I got turned off by the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Educational & Fun for any Graduate- I should know, I am one!, July 10, 2003
This review is from: The RAT: The Real World Aptitude Test: Preparing Yourself for Leaving Home (Capital Ideas) (Paperback)
I was actually a little dissapointed when I saw this after opening the package in the mail. I was expecting something a little less "words of advice for the next phase of your life" sort of thing. The book just sat there in my room for about a week until one night I was bored so I picked it up and started flipping through it. That was the first sign of something cool-you can flip through it, it doesn't matter where you start or what you skip. And it's a different format, it's a test, but a fun one (if you can imagine such a thing). The book tells you so many of those important little things that you might have missed somehow along the way on everything from changing a flat, making a bed, diversity, to figuring out the percent of alcohol in a margarita. This book ended up being a really cool and helpful graduation gift. I highly recommend it!

Not worth the cost of shipping it back. Loaded with errors and misinformation. Mr Moyer's concept of the "Real-world" comes accross as one which encourages shallow thinking and narrow-mindedness.

It is kind of a subtle way of showing that those endless boring hours of school don't amount to much out in the world. It's a perfect gift for any high school graduate--wish I'd had it when I graduated from high school.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but..., June 9, 2002

This book can be fun for the whole family. Not only does it challenge you to think about how many of these "basic life skills" you and your family and friends have, but it provides concise, well-written answers to questions like "How do I change the oil in my car?" I do warn you, though, that if, like me, you were expecting to get the answers to questions such as "Did Puck and Rachel really sleep together?" or "Did Ruthie ever get that drinking problem under control?", this is not the book for you.
