I hesitated to spend the extra money on this, but I am SO glad that I did. I thought that I bought it as an indulgent convenience, but now I know that it enhances the efficiency of the Ultra Rat Zapper tremendously. This is a great enhancement to the Ultra Rat Zapper!

I've had my Ultra Rat Zapper and Rat Tail for over two weeks with no activity. The Zapper is in the garage, and the Rat Tail on my kitchen floor. Well, 3 nights after the freely accessible dog food was removed from the garage (duh!), BINGO! I noticed the flashing lights of the Rat Tail within an hour. Because the Zapper had been sitting for so long with no activity, it wasn't on my mind, and I would not have thought to walk out to the garage to check on it. But because of the Rat Tail, I didn't need to think about it.

I emptied the Zapper, reset it, and plugged in the Rat Tail and left it. Next pass through the kitchen...yep, the lights are flashing again! Woo Hoo! I dumped and resest the Zapper, went to bed, and woke up not thinking about the Zapper, even though it had been thrilling to catch two already. I stumble into the kitchen in my morning fog to be greeted by the flashing lights yet again! The other reviewer was right...you can't miss the flashing lights if you're anywhere within the sight line.

I love this thing! The first rat would still be sitting in the Zapper, discouraging all the others from entering, had I not gotten the Rat Tail. Did I mention how cute it is, when the little eyes are alternately blinking??! :-)

The cord is small enough to wrap around the edge of my door within the door frame, with no damage to the cord. Another reviewer stated that the cord was 25 feet, but the product specs say it is only 12 feet. I think 12 feet is probably accurate. But that's plenty long enough for my uses. If you have any concern about the length, you might want to measure the distance from the location of the Zapper to a noticable placement of the Rat Tail, to make sure it will be sufficiently long enough.

You wouldn't be reading this review unless you had a rodent problem. Bottom line: The rats aren't hanging out where you are. Buy the Rat Tail so it will be! If you're going to spend the money on the Ultra Rat Zapper, go ahead and spend it on this. You will NOT be sorry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great addition to the Rat Zapper, May 31, 2007

This review is from: Agri Zap RATT001 Rat Zapper Rat Tale Remote Monitor With 12-Foot Cord (Lawn & Patio)
The Rat Tale is designed to be used with the Rat Zapper Ultra. It plugs into the top of the unit, and flashes whenever the trap has been activated. Since I had my Rat Zapper in the back of the attic, it was a big pain to go up into the attic every night to check the trap. Checking the trap a lot also discourages rats from entering it if it is constantly moved. The Rat tale has about a 12 foot long cord, and I was able to let it hang down from my attic (see picture). I kept looking up at it every time I came home, which I later found out was unnecessary since this thing flashes like crazy when it goes off. The LEDs are very bright so, there is little chance you will not notice is. I recommend it for anyone who plans to put the Rat Zapper in an inconvenient location.

5.0 out of 5 stars Correction to B. Walker's post, March 18, 2010

There is an error with B. Walker's post. Actually the rat-tail WILL WORK with any of the zapper models, I have several of them. The poster says "when I unpacked my purchases, I found that the Rat Tale only works with Rat Zapper Ultra - which is NOT the one I bought."

I sent an Email to the company, and here's the reply: "It should work on any of our models.
Please test the rat tale by pinching the plug between a piece of aluminum foil. The light should blink.
Please let me know. Cheers, Cathi"
----------------------------
Anyway, this alerted me to the fact that the rat tails have batteries in them (Lithium CR2032) and mine went dead. I got new ones and they light up really good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Necessary addition for Rat Zapper Ultra or Classic, August 25, 2011

This review is from: Agri Zap RATT001 Rat Zapper Rat Tale Remote Monitor With 12-Foot Cord (Lawn & Patio)
I heard rodents (I was hoping mice) chewing on things in the walls and ceiling spaces, so I bought a Victor M2524 Electronic Mouse Trap, two d-CON 00027 Ultra Set Covered Mouse Trap, a Rat Zapper Classic and a Rat Zapper Ultra. The Rat Zapper Classic caught three mice, the Ultra caught three rats while the others never caught anything. The Rat Tale is amazing (and I was worried that it was a waste of money). Without it, you have to keep checking the trap to see if the light is on and you scare the rodents away. I think the light on the trap only stays on for 24 hours and the light on the Tale stays on for 15 days (but then you'll have to replace the batteries). The flashing eye lights are visible even during the day.

Here are directions from the company on how to replace the batteries:

The battery compartment is located underneath the label on the bottom of the Rat Tale.

You'll need to remove a small screw to open it.

The batteries are CR2032. The metal pad is sandwiched in between the batteries when installed. BOTH BATTERIES MUST BE ORIENTED WITH THE POSITIVE SIDE IN CONTACT WITH THE METAL PAD.The batteries are CR2032. The metal pad is sandwiched in between the batteries when installed. When I purchased this along with the Rat Zapper, I felt I was "splurging" on something I didn't really need. But boy, is it a great addition to the trap, and totally worth a few extra dollars to solve a rodent problem! My trap is in the attic, and Rat Tale hangs down through the panel in the ceiling. I must put up a ladder and climb up to pop the "hatch" open to view the trap, so it's really great not to make unnecessary trips. And it IS so exciting to see those bright red eyes flashing! There's no mistaking when there's a rat in the trap. Never a "false positive." If the eyes are flashing, there's a dead rodent in there for sure. (I guess I should add that I have both the Rat Zapper and another electronic trap, and the Rat Zapper is far superior to the other trap.)

I've had the Rat Zapper Ultra for years..plus the Rat Tails . just got 2 new improved Rat Zappers & Rat Tails.. I put them under my Mobile they work great..and the Rat tails tells me If I get a mouse in the Zapper.. don't have to keep checking them. don't have to mess with mouse traps.. This is so much easier to deal with! both are well worth the money. :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful Addition, January 9, 2007

This review is from: Agri Zap RATT001 Rat Zapper Rat Tale Remote Monitor With 12-Foot Cord (Lawn & Patio)
The rat tale, placed in an easy-to-see location, allows one to tell at a glance whether the trap, which may be in a hard-to-see location, needs to be emptied. I recommend it.

Beware the Amazon tickler "Customers who bought this item also bought..." When I saw that, I naturally thought the Rat Tale would work with my Rat Zapper. Wrong! I bought a brand new Rat Zapper and a Rat Tale to go with it. Lo and behold, when I unpacked my purchases, I found that the Rat Tale only works with Rat Zapper Ultra - which is NOT the one I bought. "Just return it" you might say? Well, the Rat Tale itself cost only $11.99. But with shipping it was closer to $20. With some investigation, I discovered that the seller charges a restocking fee. So if I return it and pay for THAT shipping and then pay for a restocking fee on top of that, I'd just be throwing away good money after bad. Not worth the hassle. So if you buy a Rat Zapper, be SURE you have the right model before you purchase this Rat Tale.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST - Tale is as awesome as the Zapper itself!, March 27, 2011

I purchased the Rat Zapper and Tale at the same time. The zapper is in the attic, and the Rat Zapper Tail is hanging from the attic stairs' door at the ceiling. It is so NICE to open the garage door and know in a moment that the trap has been triggered without climbing the stairs. Seeing the little bulbs (eyes) blink makes my day. Don't get me wrong, I am an animal lover, but I'm about to lose my mind over these darn rodents! I've declared war! I'm having fantastic success after only 3 days. If decide to purchase another Rat Zapper for under the house, I will get a Rat Tail to go along with it. A 100% positive review.

I remember reading that there are something like 25 mice per acre on average and we live in one of those nice wooded areas that seem to attract them indoors...especially in winter. I used to buy those snap ones for years and always had a supply of peanut butter on hand for them, and they worked about 80% of the time. Then I found the Rat Zapper! That thing works 100% of time as long as the batteries are good ;-) But I had it above the garage and had to keep going up to check it out. So I put the Rat Tale on and now I can see if Fievel has met his maker readily and easily. One thing I found...if you throw the dead vermins in the woods they will be recycled (read:eaten) so this is a green approach :-)
