5.0 out of 5 stars Fasten Your Seat Belt, It's Going to Be a Bumpy Ride, May 26, 2006
This review is from: RATTRAP (Paperback)
Having read and thoroughly enjoyed Sarah's stories online I couldn't resist trying her first book, despite the fact that I read very few novels, don't care for violence, and have no particular interest in sports. But it was like getting on a wild carnival ride, once you got into this story, there was no way you were leaving until the ride was over. Be prepared for twists and turns and bumps in the road. Sarah will keep you guessing with her rapid fire short chapter style.
And be prepared to meet some larger than life characters along the way. There are enough bad guys to populate three novels. But for those of us that have witnessed examples of celebrity "justice" in action in recent history, this book will land a little close to home. Sex, professional sports, the criminal justice system, race, gangs, there doesn't seem to be a topic that Sarah is afraid to tackle head on. Where one so young gets the knowledge and confidence to do so and make the book believable and real is beyond me but more power to her. I know that Sarah's goal is to be a full time writer and I think she's well on her way. What a great first book. She's almost converted me to become a novel reader; at least when her second book comes out and I hope that's soon. Bravo Sarah, I just hope you will still have some time to titillate your online story fans as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing story - typical of Sarah, March 20, 2006
By
This review is from: RATTRAP (Paperback)
I've read Sarah's erotic fiction online, which was the major driving force for buying her book. I was not disappointed. I love detail in stories, and Sarah is as detail oriented an author as I've read in a long while.

The chapters are fast-paced, and the plot moves quickly. You become immersed in the story, and before you know it, you've finished the book!

There are twists and turns, plenty of erotic dialogue, and a great "bad guy". I recommend this book if you're looking for all of the above, and I'm anxiously awaiting her next work.

Great job, Sarah!

5.0 out of 5 stars In order to defeat evil, you must understand the nature of evil., September 6, 2006
This review is from: RATTRAP (Paperback)
"In order to defeat evil, you must understand the nature of evil." This is a profound and demanding statement that occurs several times in Sarah's first novel. In many important ways it is a summary of the novel. Over the course of the novel, the reader is given the chance (choice?) to understand not only the `greater evil' of the main villain, but also the `lesser evils' of the various characters in the novel. The novel also wrestles with the idea that perception creates reality.

RATTRAP as a story can be read on many levels, from the erotic novel to a philosophic discourse on the nature of evil and thus should appeal to a very diverse audience. The novel also contains many vignettes that will amuse, arouse, disgust, enlighten, and entertain.

This one of the most intense and believable novels I've read in a very long time. I look forward to reading Sarah's next novel!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sportswriter comments, July 20, 2006
This review is from: RATTRAP (Paperback)
Sarah, I thought this book was fantastic. Read every word cover to cover. Graphic, but not offensive, and I think you displayed a wide array of knowledge and familiarity with sports, pop culture, history, art and so much more. It took me a while to get through all the book, but it was well worth it. A job well done and best of luck in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read, March 19, 2006
This review is from: RATTRAP (Paperback)
Football, sex, murder, a well developed plot line, and fast paced, realistic dialogue--I enjoyed every page of this book. It won't be long till we see S.H. Hamilton on the NY best-seller list--that's how talented this author is.

5.0 out of 5 stars adult page turner, November 22, 2005
This review is from: RATTRAP (Paperback)
There many twists and turns in this well written adult fiction tale. An instant turn on, the story line is well thought out and moving. Lots of explicit sex and tension. Hamilton creates such strong images you can touch and be touched by all the sexual energy.

5.0 out of 5 stars RATTRAPPED, September 26, 2005
This review is from: RATTRAP (Paperback)
Sex and drugs and rock 'n' roll. RATTRAP doesn't have much in the way of rock 'n' roll, but there's sex and drugs in there. And murder, greed and envy. There's also friendship, families and a love story too. Something for everyone. Ms. Hamilton's acute eye for detail and ear for dialogue soon makes the reader feel like a silent witness to the events in the novel. And, like any witness, you want to find out what happened next. Its impossible to read this book slowly. RATTRAP had me rattrapped quickly, and kept me that way from beginning to ending.
If it were possible to award 6 stars, this would get all 6! Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rattrap, first book for a new shining star!, July 24, 2005
This review is from: RATTRAP (Paperback)
"Rattrap" by Sarah Hamilton
Reviewed by William Chesney

Rattrap is this short story author's first novel. Having read several of her short stories I was intrigued. Neither was I disappointed. It is a fast paced romp through the world of big money sports stars and the unsavory forces in the background keeping them in the spot light despite their transgressions. We follow Dexter Curtis, the latest golden boy of the Pittsburgh Steelers, their first round draft pick out of Miami who is supposed to get them into Super Bowl contention, along with his less than honest sports agent Ron Kingston who will stop at nothing to keep the golden boy in the gold. Then we add in a cute little promiscuous cheerleader Kim McConnell who meets Dexter at a bar and invites him to go outside for a private party in his Hummer only to have it go wrong as he brutally rapes her anally. Let us not forget our young female reporter working at her first real job fresh out of college for a friend of her dad's. This budding reporter is assigned her first big story with the rape accusations against Dexter Curtis by this young cheerleader. There is a side plot dealing with the budding friendship(?) with her editor. These add so much to the rich character development obvious throughout the story The story winds around a lot of other very well developed characters as it spins a complex yarn of sex, greed, drugs, and murder. You can truly feel yourself immersed into their varied worlds.

This is an exciting, fast moving experience. I found, just like a who-done-it Agatha Christy novel, I could not put it down until I finished it. When I did have to put it down for a respite I found myself thinking of the story in the context of my own life. It is captivating. It will make you cry, shout for joy and everything in between. It will leave you breathless. I could not recommend it more. I look for great things on the best sellers list from this budding literary star. BRAVO. I give this one five stars out of five.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better Than Harry Potter, September 20, 2005

Who needs JK when you've got SH. OK, so maybe Rattrap appeals to a different demographic, but if you're into football and raunchy sex (and don't those two go together like a horse and carriage?) then this book is for you. And let's not forget serial killers. Part Hannibal the Canibal, part Jack the Ripper, Nathan Redmond is by far the novel's most compelling character. I'll never eat at the "Y" with as much verve again.

Also of note are Ms. Hamilton's wild sense of humor, intricate plotting and attention to detail.
