Clearly disappointed!!! I bought two of these, each having the same problem - the distance between the prongs was not wide enough to accommodate a standard outlet. I don't know what "standard" they were aiming for, but it did not exist at several of my friends houses nor mine. I suspect they are selling these at a low price because someone screwed up on the engineering and design side, and they need to get rid of them because they are not in specification(they don't fit). For whatever the reason, both of the units I purchased had the same (in fact identical) problem.

That being said, at one point I did manage(don't ask) to get one of these in a socket and plugged into my Dell laptop. Worked, for about an hour before the dell reported an error saying it detected a non-standard power supply, subsequently crashing my system. If that was not bad enough, a strong smell was coming from the supply (like it was melting and shorting out), and the unit was quite hot. Clearly, I should have given up earlier.

It is not worth it to return these (and not Amazon's fault) so I just chucked them.

When I thought about it a little more, I felt it better to protect my investment spending the additional money on the OEM version, which I purchased and is working well, even though I thought the cost is quite a bit higher then it should be. I don't know what came over me.

My suggestion, stay clear looking somewhere else.

This AC Adapter won't charge the battery for Inspiron 1720. If somebody out there figured out how to do so, pls. share. Thanks!

The adapter worked for 3 months but it would get extremely hot. I was always amazed that the plastic never melted. Now, three months later, it can no longer charge the battery. Also, the plug that went into the computer was always coming out, it definitely was not as snug as the original one.
The original adapter lasted a little less than 3 years, this one lasted 3 months. Buy something else.

I recently bought this horrible charger fr me dell inspiron 1521. The charger was working perfect for a good 3 hous, but then stopped charging and caused MAJOR computer lag mainly because the computer was recognizing the charger as coming in and out of the computer which it wasnt it was in the computer fine. Ever since the day ive gotten it the charger has been way out of wack, so i do not reccomend this charger for anyone. I got what i payed for.

Worked for 2 days now all it is good for is a poor excuse for spending 10 bucks but then again I guess you get what you pay for.

When I first plugged this charger into my laptop I was given a message that it was unable to charge the battery. After a few days and much hand wringing it finally began to charge while my laptop was closed and in sleep mode. After a few weeks of use it will charge sometimes. It is very hit or miss. If I recieve the cannot charge message I usually plug and unplug the cord which seems to allow my comptuer to recognize the powersupply. When it works it charges quickly.

This adapter just failed to work after a few weeks of use. It turned on and everything, but my laptop (Inspiron 1720) displayed a warning saying that it did not recognize the adapter.

Worked much better than a much more expensive replacement I purchased from a local retailer. The one from the local worked for a day, then quit on me. This one is still going strong, and I'm buying another!

After reading most of the reviews on power adapters, I was a little fearfull that this adapters would fall into the "Missfit" categories.
There was mention of the power plug that fits into the receptor on the laptop, would not contact the center pin (+ d/c)
contact point.
OK..so I still ordered this with my fingers crossed.
A few days later...The adapter arrived. I unpacked it, and "Zing'...i plugged it in with a better and tighter fit than the original one supplied by the computer manufacturer.
The replacement was a happy experience for me. Thankfully!
The sellers selection list for compatability for my computer was most helpful also!
The price was a LOT LESS than the Original Computer Manufacturers Store offered it for.
