The Batmobile is reasonably well detailed, though rather small. I was disappointed to find out that it has no steering control -- the user can make it go forward and backward, and the car changes its own direction slightly on each back/forth cycle.

I was pretty disappointed with this as an R/C car. It's not completely obvious from looking at the controller what the buttons do. From playing with it, it seems like the top-left and bottom-right buttons both propel the vehicle forward. The bottom-left button makes it turn clockwise and go in revers at the same time, and the top-right button just makes it flash its lights and make some noise.
So to clarify, the vehicle can only move in 2 directions: it can move forward in a straight line or it can go in reverse and turn to the left (that's right, you can't go straight back... reverse always turns to the left, and that's the only way to turn as well). It's also worth mentioning that it's not radio controlled, it uses light like most TV remote controls. That means you have to be pointing the controller towards the vehicle and maintaining a clear line of sight for it to operate. However, this didn't seem to be as big of a problem as the instructions made it sound. The car does look nice though, at least. You could pop the batteries out and sit it on your shelf, but I'd think you should just buy an actual model if that's all you want. Children under 5 might not be bothered with the lack of control, but then this thing doesn't seem terribly durable either. The back fins seemed especially cheap, like I could tear them off if I tugged on them. I'm afraid I couldn't recommend this to anyone.

My grandson decided to send his car down the slide. No problem..it still works fine. Pretty amazing for such an inexpensive car. It only has forward and backward on the controls. But since it also turns when backing up, you can manuever it to change direction.

My son and I got this toy for his friend who was turning 7. I had thought the car was bigger so read the product description. I was worried he would think it was "lame" since it is a small car however he loves it!! He especially likes the remote, he uses it as a "communicator" sometimes when playing games with his friends. The car actually moves pretty cool and he played with it for at least an hour after his party was over.

The first thing to note is this toy is not Radio Controlled but Infra-Red controlled. IR controller means you have to point the remote to the top of the batmobile where the receiver is else it will not operate.
I was disappointed with the lack of steering. At the time of purchase, the item description gave me the impression that this batmobile could do full function steering, in fact I think the description used those words exactly "full function steering", but they changed it now. Too late for me though, I am screwed because I bought this car to dismantle it for use in a hobby project that required full steering or at the very least separate motors on the back wheels but I got none of that. The "turbo" function doesn't actually go any faster, it just makes some extra noise to give you the impression it's firing the flame out the back, like the batmobile from the movies. The box says 6+ but a 6 year old will not be impressed with this, it should have been for ages 3 to 5 instead. |
