4.0 out of 5 stars warship
Bought this as a gift to a family of three boys. The toy performs better than expected, moves rapidly and with assurance through the waters of a large community pool. The problem was that the boys ages 2,5 and 8 took the controller into the pool and shorted out the box. I had given this as a gift hence I did not have the instruction booklet and didn't know what to do when...

I bought this ship 6 months ago, but just recently triedit out for the first time. The ship does not work at all. The "touch switch" does not work even though the battery is fully charged . Poor quality control and a waste of money

Bought this as a gift to a family of three boys. The toy performs better than expected, moves rapidly and with assurance through the waters of a large community pool. The problem was that the boys ages 2,5 and 8 took the controller into the pool and shorted out the box. I had given this as a gift hence I did not have the instruction booklet and didn't know what to do when it got dipped in the pool. Also, certain parts (plastic) were clipped onto the frame, they needed to be cemented, they popped off during the trial run. Overall, was satisfied, the price was right, just need to find another control unit

My 8 year old just loves this destroyer. Very seaworthy on our little pond. Easy to navigate after a couple of tries. Great detail on the boat.

4.0 out of 5 stars I hope this helps...It really is a neat RC toy, November 10, 2010

I purchased one of these from another vender back in 2007 or so. I was surprised by the level of detail; it is more like a scale model than a toy in appearance. Some of the finer details break off easily but this does not affect the function of the boat. It looks very much like a Russian Sovremenny Class DDG in 1/200 scale. After having it for a while I disassembled it and painted more to scale, it looks great as is but with a nice scale model like paint job it is even better.

The boat runs real well forward, reverse, left and right. There is no "throttle" just go or no go. The boat runs well in a small lake and does not get too upset if the water is not glass smooth. There is no steering trim adjustment so it may not run in a real straight line.

It has a neat safety feature: the motors will not run unless the boat is in the water or some other form of conductor touching both propeller shafts. I found this out when bench testing the boat before I used it in water. The information on the box (which is the only "manual" you get) is not real clear about this feature.

Update: 7/1/10 After a fair amount of use my first one of these sat for a year or so. The next time I went to use it the motors had seized up due to water intrusion and rust. I had already purchased more of these and placed one in service. This newer one has some minor changes that include less top side penetrations (like no off/on switch like my first one did) and water drain holes to help in drying out the internals. In addition to that, I disassembled the ship to paint it and during reassembly I sealed the deck to hull seam with RTV.

A couple things to bear in mind that it is VERY IMPORTANT to get any water that seeps in the ship out when done for the day or the motors will rust up very quickly and you will have a one use RC toy that is now a static model. For initial use an adult and/or someone familiar with RC should help with the initial set up. Also you have just spent around $50 for a toy with the size and detail that you find on RC ships costing ten times the price, so something had to give somewhere. On the ones I have purchased all the operation and maintenance information you get is on the outside of the box and is poorly translated, so read it carefully. If you find you self not understanding what is on the box I recommend you pack it up and send it back.

Over the past four years I have purchased several RC boats/ships in various price ranges. For around $50 this is one of the better ones, but that may not be saying much. This one is fine for what it is. To get a real decent ready to run RC boat/ship you are looking a spending around $200.00 to $500.00 or more.

For something smaller and cheaper the "HT" torpedo boat is another HT boat that I found to be quite good for the money.

Surprised at the level of detail on the Destroyer - my 6 year was beyond impressed. it had a slight list to the port side but barely noticeable. My son easily figured out the controls after a couple minutes.

The "test" switch on the top did not work so we thought it was broken - 6yr old started to tear up but i quickly thought to try it in water and all was good - the water completed the circuit.

Very satisfied

We bought a ship, and it worked great at first, then starting having problems responding to the remote. We changed the remote battery and made sure the ship was fully charged. It did not help, so We emailed ACstore(where We bought it). They were very helpful and replaced the original ship(Very quick response and replacement). the new one is working great. The ship is very fast, and has lots of nice detail that we all like. We bought the ship for my 8 year old son and he loves it.

I bought this toy for my four year old twin sons for Christmas, so we have used it only a few times. But it is a lot of fun to see them drive the boats around our swimming pool.

What I see as good: (1) Easy controls (2) no assembly required (3) Rechargeable battery pack (4)fun for all ages

What could be/are problems (1) no easy way to drain and maintain engines (2) long charge time on battery pack (3) many small, breakable parts.

Overall this is a very fun toy and I have a great time watching my sons. But time will tell how long these engines last when you cannot drain the hull and maintain them properly.
