Product Description

Finally A True Upgrade For The Ultimate Ears Crowd, Designed To Enhance Your Music Experience With Ultra Beautiful Sound. The FiiO RC-UE1 has been processed through low temperature annealing, so the wire looks thick and big - but it's soft, durable and has excellent tensile.

Something happened where the cable and jack connect.

I bought these on January 23 and unfortunately, the left piece on it just went out after 2 months and 1 week.

I did a lot of research before buying my Triple.Fi 10. One conclusion I came to was that the stock cable was pretty crap. And I agreed when I first tried it out. Luckily, I had also found out about the FiiO RC-UE1 upgrade cable and bought it along with the TF10. It's a great cable to be sure. Feels very sturdy yet flexible enough to easily wear behind my ear. It's a bit thick and hefty and you can definitely feel its weight, though I don't mind much. Tangling is nonexistent, and the jack plug is very slick looking too.

I bought these on January 23 and unfortunately, the left piece on it just went out after 2 months and 1 week. I took a look and at the part where the cable and the left connector met, the cable had been pulled out, exposing the copper wiring within. This was a concern of mine when I bought the cable because there's really no strain relief at the connectors at all. The right side is still intact, but I can see a tiny bit of whitening where the plastic is starting to stretch.

I'm disappointed it lasted barely 2 months for me, but I'm also surprised. Wearing it over and behind my ear, there's really not that much strain where the cable meets the connector. Yet somehow the cable's been pulled right out the connector. Can't say I'm careless with my things either. I really enjoyed this cable and was considering buying another one, but I took a look at the reviews here and apparently someone else has a very similar problem after 2.5 months (reading that review prompted me to write this one, in fact). It's not a good sign, but maybe we're both just unlucky.

For now, I'll just make do with the stock cable until I can find another affordable upgrade cable.

TL:DR? Still doing great.

Original review from 2012-01-14:
I've gone through 7-8 sets of standard Ultimate Ears original cables for my Super.Fi 5 Pros, and I finally got sick of paying Logitech for a defective product that they refused to fix. One of two of the original/replacement connectors failed, which is easy enough to replace, but shortening the cable didn't help matters as the original lines for the monitors were always too short for how I wear my MP3 player. In general though, the cables always did one consistent thing: 7"-8" of the wire near the ear buds would become stiff after 4-5 months. No idea if this was from UV exposure, or sweat from my hair, I was never able to pinned it down. This happened consistently with all of their wires regardless of the black, white, or clear models.

This might not sound like a big deal, but those stiff wires literally cost me a pair of Super.Fi 5 Pros, because it put strain on the plastic housing of the driver where the cable connects, in a twisting motion. After years of faithful beautiful audio output, the connector twisted out of the driver housing, solely due the stiff wire putting additional torque where it should've flexed and moved. Logitech didn't care a bit, about their cables, or what they did to expensive drivers.

On to the FiiO RC-UE1. I was worried that they wouldn't fit right because they don't have the memory wire in the last 2"-3" near the drivers, but after putting them on today I'm mad I didn't pay a little more a long time ago. No more bending or twisting the cable end so my drivers are snug, these heavier coated wires flex smoothly and allow my drivers to sit naturally in my ears, achieving the "ear plugs" feel that I love without hassle.

I thought I'd take a risk with ordering this, seeing how there were so many reviews saying it was good, but also so many saying it was bad. However, I now realize that the ones who say these were good were all written probably right after receiving the product. It works really well when you first use it. However, it breaks so easily, and loses sound in one ear.

I rarely rate products, but I don't want other customers to have my experience. I have had a couple of pairs of high end UE headphones for years, and just replace the cables when they break. I decided to try this because it looked heavy duty. The two little metal barbs fit tightly into the headphones... in fact, too tight. They are just SLIGHTLY too large and broke the connections inside my actual ear buds. I wasn't sure what was going on when my first pair started messing up, so I plugged the cable into my other pair. ...it ruined that set too. Now I have $500 of broken ear buds and a crappy cable. Please don't buy this product.

lasted less than a month. Something happened where the cable and jack connect. sound goes in and out in one or both ears. This was the same problem that i had with my previous 3 cables for my headphones but they all lasted at least 2 years!!!

The replacement cable seems like a higher quality alternative to the original UE cable. Snug fit with the earphones, good quality wire coating, etc. But after a week I noticed that I had to fiddle with the jack to get proper sound. Now it's impossible to get sound using the cable without applying constant pressure or twisting the jack. It seems like the jack is of poor quality. I wish I hadn't sunk this much money into it.
