A necessary but disappointing product,

This review is from: RCA 25110RE3 - cordless phone w/ call waiting caller ID & wireless headset (Electronics)
I've been telling people about this wonderful wireless headset for a few years; this review is in response to my recent purchase of a SECOND 2511 to replace the first one I bought about four or five years ago for my home. It had literally broken. The ultra-cheap plastic parts (China?) simply wore down, so much so that the headset could not even be placed back on the charger.
I would argue that the actual design--the engineering--of this phone or phones is what it is at fault. I must warn all purchasers that the headset is EXTREMELY flimsy, the microphone in particular, which swings wildly as you speak. There is absolutely no detente, no secure bumps or slots or clips to hold the mic steady as you talk on the headset, which (in a very short time) can get very loose and dangling (I actually glued the old one into place after a while). Worse, the charger/base is equally cheap. I suspect normal usage will erode the delicate electrical connections on the charger/base as you continually replace the headset on it. Eventually this flimsy design just wears out and needs to be replaced...but there is one compensation: it's a great product when working properly, and there is NOTHING worldwide that can replace it at this price point, which many consumers may have already discovered. $125 versus $400 is not a choice! Having said all that, this is possibly the most useful device I have ever bought! I can't understand why everyone doesn't have one at home. You have not lived until you can gab and gab hands-free on your phone--without cords dangling and the like. More importantly, it's now possible to type and use a computer while discussing a project with someone. Or cook a meal or anything else you can do while talking. It is incredibly useful in every respect, including the Caller ID. The wireless reception is excellent (though you need to contort the mic so your breathing isn't picked up, creating annoying static for both you and the listener). All in all, not a perfect product--it would have to be much more finely calibrated to better tolerances and should be a lot more sturdy to garner further praise from me at least--yet, as I said, it can become a necessary device in your home. In the absence of alternatives, this is a good deal, even if it's apparently the ONLY deal out there.

Poor quality...better options exist,
I bought this phone for the over ear option on the headset. Once the unit arrived, I noticed the frail quality of the handset. Sure enough the ear loop broke within 6 weeks. I called RCA support to get a replacement, but they do not make replacement ear loops. RCA will replace the entire unit if it is within the warranty period, but it takes 4-6 weeks to get the replacement. I got a replacement unit and the ear loop broke again in 3 months.
Other cons include: No speaker phone Very large wall unit must be plugged in Ease of use Overall quality

This phone is a great product. The combination of handset and headset that RCA has come up with works great and no one else seems to be doing quite the same thing. My wife works from home and had one of these that she used for quite a while. It finally got dropped enough that the LCD became intermittent so she needed a new one. We looked for something in the price range that would serve the same function and this was all we could find. We've had the old one for a couple of years so I thought they might not make it any more. Happily RCA still makes this and we bought a second one. The old unit is still in service on the home phone instead of the work phone.
