Great player so far.....,

Just got this player and so far it rocks. It even comes with both a HDMI and a DVI-2-HDMI cable. That alone almost makes up the price. The player is responsive, saves your HDMI setting which is very important! (some other players require you to change setting each time you turn the unit on). The card reader is a nice feature, but you must access your card from the players front menu. I have thrown DVD-R and +R with no problems so far. Remote is too small, but if you have a programable remote no problem. Picture from HDMI is great at all resolutions, 480i/p, 720p, 1080i. DVD tray is too thin, but almost all new players have that. Red/Green power on light is too bright. Display is readable from across the room, and maybe just a tad too bright, but not objectionable. Have not tried any DIVX disk, and no where does it mention it will play them, so maybe not.

This upconverter works well in 720p/1080i, however it really depends on the recorded bitrate of the actual DVD you are viewing. The memory card viewer works well in displaying pictures, but its kinda slow for big pictures. This player comes with two HDMI cables: HDMI to HDMI, and DB15(VGA) to HDMI. Slim design is nice as well since it will fit in many small places. Good product over all.

I have this player and I'm also selling this player. It's awesome and it comes with HDMI/DVI and HDMI/HDMI cable so you wouldn't have to go out and spend extra $$$$ for additional cables. It converts your old DVD to HIDEF picture. Gotta have it if you have HDTV.

When it works, it looks nice,

I bought this unit several months ago and have had many problems. It's very fussy about discs, even new ones. I'd say about 1 in 4 discs just would not load (though they would sometimes load after several tries but there was no rhyme or reason). Beyond the problem of recognizing discs, My remote completely stopped working after about 4 months of use, rendering the player virtually useless. I gave it 2 stars instead of one because the picture was so nice... when it worked.

Great Picture at a Great Price,

I am very pleased with the overall value of this player. The picture is incredibly sharp with little flicker, and I didn't have to mess with buying any extra cables. I dare you to find a HDMI to DVI and a HDMI to HDMI cable for under $50, much less the cables and a quality DVD player.
Some might find the remote cumbersome with a lot of small buttons, but I like the added functionality that it provides. It's RCA, so it should be well made and should last a long time. So, if you're looking for a good, cheap DVD player that broadcasts in 1080i (and yes, I do totally know what that means, and I want it), then you should probably get this player.

No disc message,
This review is from: RCA DRC255N HDMI DVD Player with HD UpConversion (Electronics)
I bought this dvd player today, fortunatly for amazon I didn't buy it from them. But I had to come here to review it because it sucks so bad I don't want any unsuspecting consumers to be bilked out of their hard earned $60 or so they are willing to pay for a dvd player.
so, I buy this dvd player, take it home and hook it up to make sure it works before I gift wrap it for my son's birthday. I plug it all in, grab a new dvd to test it out and insert the disc. There is hemming, and hawing and very loudly at that. Then it makes a funny whirring noise and a message of "no disc" displays. I eject the disc and examine it for defects...therea are none. So I grab another dvd, same thing. I insert a third dvd and get the same "no disc" message. I unplug the unit, read all the instructions, plug it all back in, insert a disc..."no disc". I try a music disc, "no disc" so I call the store I purchased it from and they tell me to bring it back and they'll give me another unit to try. No, I want a refund of my money. I'd rather not bother. My son will get something else for his birthday. RCA loses.

This dvd player does not feature hd upconversion! It has proggressive scan and that is ok but it is not upconversion. Also it does not come with hdmi cables it only comes with the red white and yellow cables. The product is not as listed.

I ordered the 255N as advertised, but received the 225N which is NOT an upconverting model.
