RCA DRC277 DVD Player,

Bought Two before this one at 100 dollars and 55 dollars. Trouble locking up and misstracking and playing some DVDs. This one at 39 dollars is compact, quiet and tracks anything I put in it. The upconvert makes my 720P Toshiba TV uncomfortably close to my more expensive 1080P Mitsubishi TV. Neat remote too. Love it.

I cannot speak for durability, but I am happy after two month's use. Yes, it is a bit vocal while it's finding tracks (probably due to its plastic case and mimimalist form), but not at all while it's playing. The 1080p picture is fabulous -- better than the upconversion performance of my Sony blu-ray player. The DVI connection carries sound beautifully as well. The player fits anywhere and moves between rooms and systems with very little hassle and would even fit in a backpack if you tempted to take it to a friend's to show off. Yes, it's light (you might say flimsy-feeling), but inside where it matters this bad boy's got game. Really I don't know why anyone would need anything more than this for digital upconverting ... assuming it lasts two or three years; I have high hopes.

I'm on my 3rd one...,

I'm on my third one. They stop working after about 9 months. I take them back to Target and exchange them. It's not costing me anything (except for time) but it kinda annoying. The picture quality is pretty good when using an HDMI cable. The remote sucks. I say avoid this one...

O.k., lizzen-up all you audiophiles! After going through several high-end (i.e., expensive -- Roksan, Rotel) CD players that performed poorly and failed after a year or so (it's usually the transport that goes bad), a friend suggested that I simply purchase a DVD player. After all, if the lens and laser could read the fine threads of a DVD, it could certainly read the coarse spots of a CD!
I was suspicious, so I purchased the cheapest one I could find. My RCA is now about five-years-old, and it yet performs better than any high-end CD player I have owned. In an A-B comparison test, the D-A convertor of the cheap RCA DVD player sounded equal to an expensive CD player. You should never buy another CD player for your audio system again! I have never connected this to a television, so I don't know how it reads video information.

Have had this DVD player for about 3 months and it is no longer working. You get what you pay for, it was a slow moving dvd player to begin with, the lag between the open and close button was kind of long, you do need the remote otherwise you can't make any selection on the actual dvd, the cable is a little short as well, all of that I could live with, if it had not stopped working, I thought it was me, but this thing stopped opening, it would open and close sporadically and now has ceased altogether and won't play a DVD, try and explain not working to a toddler that wants to dora... wish I had spent a little bit more. The only thing that is guaranteed with this dvd player is that IT WILL BREAK!

It broke in less than a year. It was cheap so I guess I got what I paid for. Same problem as one of the other people who posted a review, It couldn't load a DVD anymore.

Near Blu-Ray Quality for about 1/5 the price,

I bought this DVD player after I upgraded from an analog projection TV to a 1080p HDTV. Using an HDMI output, the video and audio quality was so drastically improved that my jaw dropped. I could not believe that this investment of about $60 (for both the cable & the DVD player) was what made the difference between the relatively fuzzy image I was used to seeing and the crisp, sharp, highly-detailed image I hoped to get with an HDTV. The array of colors is also significantly broader, allowing for far smoother shadows and highlights, etc. I'm just thoroughly impressed. Maybe I'm naive about what else is out there, but I'm satisfied to know that I won't need to buy a Blu-Ray player to get such great quality as I get with this "cheap-o" DVD player.

This unit worked great for the first 6 months then it started freezing up. At first it was sporadic but after 8 months it won't even load a DVD. I would definitely pick a different product next time.

DON'T BUY IT!!!!!,

I bought this for my daughter to use in her bedroom. My complaint is really with the remote control & with RCA in general. The player itself works ok for the price. However, if you lose the remote or it stops working (which mine did after only 5 months), this model DOES NOT WORK WITH A UNIVERSAL REMOTE!!!!!
I tried every code for RCA & finally called RCA to get the code. There isn't a code!!! This player will not respond to any universal remote. I find that infuriating for several reasons. It forces you to purchase another remote from RCA for $15 plus shipping. Also, for those of us who want the convenience and ease of only having ONE remote control, this player is just not an option. I am so aggravated that I spent money on a universal remote that will not work on this unit that I have decided to donate this player to some local charity & go buy a product not made by RCA!!!! |
