Deceptive Description,

This review is from: RCA DRC286 1080p HDMI DVD Player with Up-Conversion (Black) (Electronics)
I purchased this product because I wanted a DVD player with TVGuardian. The description of this product lead me to believe that the TVGuardian was already activated. It was not. In order to activate it, I had to pay a fee of $29.95 to TVGuardian. I want to forewarn potential buyers of this deceptive product description. Otherwise, this DVD player has worked well although I have only used it a few times.

When my old DVD player started dying, this RCA unit was on sale at Meijer, and since I was looking for an inexpensive DVD player which was compact, this one immediately stood out (the fact that it could rip CD's was not anything to sneeze at, either). There haven't been any problems whatsoever with the unit, and after picking up a Hybrid SACD, imagine my surprise and delight that this inexpensive little DVD player played it! If you can get your hands on one of these ittle babies, you won't be disappointed!

I had to return this product because the feature I bought it for would not work for the application. Apparently, the list of movie studios who are not including Closed Caption text on their movies (which is what the TV Guardian feature operates with) is increasing. I only bought this unit because of the TV Guardian feature. Without being able to use it, there was no sense in keeping it. TV Guardian seems to be an awesome feature, but it seems to be going to the wayside. Too bad.

On a positive note--the TV Guardian portion of the DVD player works fine---The down side is that the DVD player has very poor sound quality. I have to turn it so high to hear the dialogue that it produces a lot of static. When I switch to my VHS player, the sound is fine, so I assume it's not my sound system.

The remote control buttons are very very small and non intuitive. The player itself is so thin and light that it seems fragile (not easy to press the buttons without pushing the whole unit back) I was also surprised that it is another $40.00 to activate the tv guardian feature. Other than that it works just fine, I'd give it a B-

The item was as described. The seller sent it promptly upon payment. No complaint. Would buy from seller again, plan on getting another identical unit in near future.

Tray would not open. Had to disassemble and removed gob of wax blocking tray. Have had to reboot several times to get to work. Plays fine otherwise. No longer works.
