Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The 20-inch TruFlat F20TF20 proves that even a compact TV can let you experience gaming the way it was intended. With RCA's exclusive VPORT, the set's distortion-free tube, and a three-line comb filter, your favorite games will make the room rumble. The VPORT simplifies a connection with Microsoft's Xbox video game system. This connection also enhances gaming by delivering dramatically improved picture detail for Xbox functions (the set includes a component-video cable). This connection takes advantage of the Xbox system's ability to output component-video signals. In addition to an Xbox connection point, the jack doubles as a second component-video input. This lets you simultaneously connect two devices with component outputs, such as a DVD player and a satellite receiver or a DVD player and an Xbox unit.

The F20TF20's three-line comb filter further enhances picture quality by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation). Auto color balance resets the individual picture tube guns (red, green, blue) to maintain consistent overall quality for the life of the tube, while auto color control maintains natural tones and color fidelity. Dynamic Black Stretch enhances contrast and detail by extending black levels in bright scenes.

The set's G-LINK Gemstar Interactive connector allows the GUIDE Plus+ GOLD System to work with your VCR (enabling one-touch record) and/or your cable box (providing the ability to tune directly to a station while the program guide is on a TV screen). Connections include two sets of stereo audio/video inputs with S-video and component-video inputs (YPrPb), a headphone output, and one pair switchable audio outputs. A set of front-panel audio/video inputs accommodates hookup with a camcorder.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good TV, terrible remote control, January 5, 2003
This review is from: RCA F20TF20 20" TruFlat Flat Screen TV (Electronics)
Overall, the TV is nice for the money. Lots of options and a good picture. The sound is pretty thin and tinny, but you can connect it up to your stereo system and pump it through some real speakers instead of the set's dinky ones.

I have three problems with this set:

1.) The much-touted Guide + GOLD system is a neat idea that was really horribly executed. It doesn't save your channel preferences, it arranges the channels by TOPIC rather than by number, making it annoying to try and find a particular channel's listing since you have to find it's category. Also, more often than not, the TV will not be able to offer any guide listings at all because of some error in downloading the listings from their source.

However, when it works, it's a neat system.

2.) The remote control is a piece of junk. It's RCA's standard universal remote, but it absolutely refuses to remember the codes for you VCR, DVD, and other devices. I have given up on trying to control anything other than the TV with this remote. It doesn't control the TV very well either. I have to press buttons several times to register a response on the set, and unless I am directly in front of the TV and a short distance away, the remote fails to control the TV at all. Fresh batteries have not helped the situation.

Sometimes, the remote will cease to function altogether. If you give it a hard shake, it may or may not begin to function again.

If you purchase another universal remote to replace the one that comes with the set, you lose a lot of functionality that is only accessible through the OEM remote; such as the GUIDE + controls.

3.) The third and final problem is that when you use the rear audio-out jacks and turn the TV's speakers off (a feature accessed through the TV's menu), the audio volume is set so low that you must turn up your stereo in order to listen at a reasonable volume. There is no option to increase the volume of the audio-out signal.

If you forget to turn the stereo's volume back down before you switch functions, such as to listen to the radio or a CD, it will blow your eardrums clean out of your skull.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Too Sure....., September 17, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: RCA F20TF20 20" TruFlat Flat Screen TV (Electronics)
I have read a review from epinions.com that says this is a great television. However after reading the review from amazon.com, I found that there are problems that were never mentioned. Right now I have no idea if it is good or not. Please write a reply to this message or at least select "yes", that this message was useful, to say that I should by this television. And select "no", to say that I should by another television.

1.0 out of 5 stars Question, August 2, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: RCA F20TF20 20" TruFlat Flat Screen TV (Electronics)
Can anyone offer some advice on this set? I have heard stories and read reviews of other flat screen sets from other maufacturers. They all seem to have the same problem, an annoying buzz coming from the back of the set. Does anyone know whether or not this set has the same problem??
