Really bad phone,
By Jennifer N Shaun (Indiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: RCA GE 21028GE3 - cordless phone w/ call waiting caller ID & answering system (Electronics)
I had my phone for one year now the first two months the phone was great I loved it. Then the trouble starting happening I would be in the middle of talking on the phone and the phone would start searching for no reason I'm sitting right next to the base I just took it off the charger so there was no reason for that. That happenes pretty much all the time now. Then somedays I can't even use my speaker phone the phone just goes blank when I press it nothing happens. The phone doesn't hold a charge either any more. I've wrote the company and they never got back with me. I thought I just got a bad phone and I was going to return it and get the same phone again thinking that just something was wrong with this one. My sister also brought the same phone she had hers maybe three weeks when it starting acting up so she took her's back and tried another one the same thing it was searching all the time going dead no matter how long it was on the charger for. I wouldn't buy any GE phones again because of this problem. I have a cheaper phone that I got for 20 and it is 100 times better then these phones. The answering part of it is great but the phone it self sucks. And the fact that GE didn't even get back with me about this phone makes me even hate there stuff even more. I thought that they would have done something to help with this problem. This phone needs to be pulled off the market it's that bad. No you can go to wal-mart and get this phone for 25 dollars I think the reason is because they where having so many problems with this phone.

and has enough features. I bought it for 2 weeks now, no complaint.
It's better than my old Panasonic phone, which is hard to operate and sound level is too low. I compared many different models from Panasonic, Moto, VTech, etc and finally chose this one. No regret. Highly recommended!

Good Sound - low Ringer,
By John (North Alabama) - See all my reviews
This review is from: RCA GE 21028GE3 - cordless phone w/ call waiting caller ID & answering system (Electronics)
I purchased this phone in the two-handset bundle. It was not clear from Amazon's description if this was a bundle or not so read their ad carefully.
The phone has good sound, no problems with the range or the function of the phone. The speaker phone function is very nice to have. The ringer volume is too low even when set to "high". If the handset s in another room it is very difficult to hear. We had to turn the ringer back on our conventional phone so we would not miss incoming calls. Frequently called numbers can be stored in the handset. Since there are two handsets you have to program each handset separately. It would be nice if there was a means of sharing or transferring the information between the handsets. The numbers are stored in the order in which you enter them. They are not arranged alphabetically so you have to just scroll through until you see the name you want to call. The digital answering machine works well. I like being able to delete a message in the middle and save the others. The outgoing message sounds like you are talking in a soup can though. Overall a good phone.

I have had this phone system for over 2 years now and it is still as great as the day I got it. I have not had a single problem with it. It still has the original batteries and it holds a charge forever. The sound is great, it has a great range of ring and sound volumes. I like it so much I just finally ordered 2 new handsets so I can have more than the 2 it came with around the house. I bought several phone systems and returned them before I finally found this one. This was the keeper.

Do yourself a favor. Do not buy this piece of JUNK!!!
I had this phone for only a year and a half and the ringer just stopped working. I called GE's customer service and you know what their advice was? "Buy a new phone sir". Well...i surely won't be purchasing another GE phone. Steer clear of GE Phones.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: RCA GE 21028GE3 - cordless phone w/ call waiting caller ID & answering system (Electronics)
This package provides the base system for up to 4 phones in our home ... now we can conference call, use the speaker phone in each of our primary rooms. It is the second purchase of the same system and has performed very well in another location as well.

This is a great phone setup w/ 2 phone bases. Very easy to use. I definitly recommend this phone to anyone. It works great outside away from the house and has great reception. I have had this phone for a little over 2 weeks and have had no problems. I have had different brands of cordless phones in the past and this one is one of the best.

Awesome Base Station, Horrible Battery Life,
By
This review is from: RCA GE 21028GE3 - cordless phone w/ call waiting caller ID & answering system (Electronics)
I've owned this phone for about 3 years now. I've replaced the batteries on both phones 3 times now. Batteries only last a couple months or so before they wear down. We don't want to switch phones because we love the base stations features so much. Our battery life is on average 5-10 minutes before the phone starts beeping and shuts off. Before it shuts off it will disconnect any calls in progress then say Searching... which is kind of a weird routine to do before dying. Needless to say it's impossible for us to have a long conversation but on the plus side that's been good on our phone bill.
The base station is super easy to setup and having the separate mailboxes has been awesome. The only thing in my experience I haven't liked is the batteries drain to an almost unusable state within a few months. It's like there is an electronic vampire bat slowly sucking the life out of the batteries. Replacement batteries are cheap enough but with 2 phones over the course of a couple years it's simply not worth it. If the batteries performed better I would never buy another phone because the base station has been absolutely flawless and exactly suits our needs. Because of the horrible battery life I will be looking to buy from a different company next time as long as their base station has about the same features. I think a bigger battery would have helped a lot. It's just 3 rechargeable AAA batteries shrink-wrapped together pretty much. Another thing I think they could improve upon is the light on the base station when you receive a new message; it blinks endlessly. I think a pin-hole sized solid light would be much more appealing. When it blinks you know you have a new message but you don't know for which 1 of the 3 mailboxes it's for. It would be nice to have truly separate mailboxes each with it's own message indicator and mailbox controls. My neighbor had to use my phone today for an emergency and both phones died in less than a minute. I think it's time to for me to look for a better performing phone. This is sad I love my phones so much and they are in perfect physical shape even after 3 years of daily use.

I wrote a review here almost two years ago, stating how I've had this product for almost a year and I haven't had any problems with it.
Well, it's year two (Dec 2008) and there is not a single phone out of the 4 I have that hasn't had a problem. Three of them now have an unreadable display and one of them randomly turns off. It's not a battery problem, as I've replaced all of them recently. Also, the quality of the speakerphones have degraded to the point where you can't use them anymore. You can hear the other party fine, but when you talk, they only hear a crackle. To top it off, I got a wireless internet router a couple years ago, and this thing operates on a similar frequency! When I use the phone while I'm downloading, the download slows to less than 1/3 the speed and you hear an annoying crackle on the phone. |
