5.0 out of 5 stars GOOD DVD PLAYER
I just bought this DVD player yesterday night at Radioshack and figured I would write a review on it to set some people's minds at ease, because when I was looking at reviews for DVD players to see which one to get, there were alot of people who said that certain players would freeze in the middle of a movie or the sound would drop out. Well, last night after hooking up...

5.0 out of 5 stars GOOD DVD PLAYER, October 16, 2001

I just bought this DVD player yesterday night at Radioshack and figured I would write a review on it to set some people's minds at ease, because when I was looking at reviews for DVD players to see which one to get, there were alot of people who said that certain players would freeze in the middle of a movie or the sound would drop out. Well, last night after hooking up the player to my TV (it took me a whole 10 seconds) I watched the Godfather Part I straight through and had no problems. Also, I should mention, I dropped it on the cement floor of my basement from about 5 feet and it works fine, it just has a scratch. The only complaint I have is that you can't access menu's without the remote and the remote was no where to be found in the box of my DVD player and that made me mad because I couldn't view any of the deleted scenes or any of the other special features. I was able to watch the movie, though, and that is a good thing. Anyway, I hope this helps you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Machine-Price, November 27, 2001

I have been using this DVD player for a month now and I just love It. The remote is convenient, too. It looks sharp with my other components (Black faced). It has a lot of features, MP3 playback capabilities, and plays all my older CD's. I have not tried a ReWritable CD, but I am sure this little 'work horse' can handle it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Terrific value as a DVD player, a flop with CDs, March 10, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: RCA RC5240P DVD Player (Electronics)
I bought this player to replace both a defunct entry-level machine I had picked up three years ago and a much older, high-end CD player. I was thrilled by its unaccustomed conveniences and solid handling of DVDs. The drawer opens and closes promptly and with reassuring smoothness, 2x-8x scanning makes navigating a snap even within a 2-hr film, controls on the box as well as the remote are ample and well-thought-out. More important, obviously, image and sound quality are spectacular. Finally, I was nostalgically delighted not just to pay such a low price for so much value, but to do so to a classically American company, even if, unsurprisingly at its price, the product itself came from China. I hadn't heard "His Master's Voice," after all, since my 45-rpm singles' turntable from high-school, just before the last ice age set in.

It's with real sadness, then, that I must say I'll be returning this unit to Amazon. Despite its solid virtuosity as a movie projector, it's unacceptable as a spinner of CDs. At every volume level, there's a distinct buzz from the speakers of both my TV monitor and my stereo system that's roughly as annoying as that of a dentist's drill. I've checked and rechecked connections, replaced cables, etc.: everything, in short, and I can't fix it. The flaw is equally pronounced on commercial CDs straight out of the shrink-wrap and on home-made CD-Rs.

I notice that the player is "out of stock" at present with Amazon. I'm hoping that status reflects a decision to pull back on sales of this particular RCA model, and that others are without the show-stopping flaw described above.

1.0 out of 5 stars Audio Sync Problems, December 24, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: RCA RC5240P DVD Player (Electronics)
I purchased this based on the good reviews I read on here which made it seem like a quality DVD player for the money. I have to admit the video is GREAT. Clear, no skipping or decoding problems to date. However, I've been running into a audio sync problem with almost every DVD I play on this player. Basically, the sound will get out of sync with the video. You'll see the lips of the actors move a second before the sound comes out. I've tried new cables, verified my configuration, and even contacted RCA technical support without any resolution to this problem. For this reason, I would definitely NOT recommend this model.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great dvd player!, January 12, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: RCA RC5240P DVD Player (Electronics)
This is a great dvd player. I've had no problems with mine. You can play cd's, dvd's cd-r's, vcd's, mp3's, and cd-rw's. I've tried playing my cd's, dvd's and cd-r's and they work perfectly fine. This dvd comes with great features.

2x 4x zoom
plays dvd's cd's vcd's cd-r's cd-rw's mp3's
multiple angle viewing
subtitles
up to 8x fast forwarding and reversing
ability to listen to a dvd in another language

It plays rented movies really well. It doesn't skip or freeze like some dvd players. I do recommend hooking this up to a good speaker system. This is a really good dvd player and I highly recommend getting it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent DVD Player, February 19, 2002
This review is from: RCA RC5240P DVD Player (Electronics)
I've had this player for a month now and it is working very well. I was worried about previous reviews indicating a sync problem between video and audio. I noticed this problem, but only on cheap rip-off DVD's from China, rental and purchased DVD's play just fine. The dynamic range limiting audio feature is excellent for watching movies at night without waking anyone up.

Would be perfect DVD if it had bookmarking and could display CD music file info on screen. It does play mp3 cdr's just fine, though.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

So it's not the fanciest, nor the most expensive, but I haven't had one problem with this player. We've had it for a few months and use it all the time without a single hitch. It was simple to hook up, is easy to use, survived a move, doesn't skip or stall, and plays DVDs perfectly. I'm quite satisfied with my purchase.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not good for somewhat older tvs, January 27, 2002

Make sure before you buy this product that you have audio and video inputs on your TV or else you'll have to do what I did and buy an unexpected modulator that I might add has a $30 dollar price tag. I took it for granted that the tv that we bought would have audio and video input signals (bought 3 years ago). Don't make the same mistake I did.
