4.0 out of 5 stars RCA RC5910P 5-Disc DVD/CD Changer
As the last review of the products states, I too have noticed this DVD player dropping frames (not sound) during DVD playback for no logical reason. Also, I've noticed a white, horizontal line of static appear totally random from time to time during DVD playback also. Furthermore, like other RCA video products I've owned it the past, the video cuts out for a fraction...

2.0 out of 5 stars Does not play CD-R music discs.
I have this player and it does not recognize CD-R discs. The only reason I would buy a 5 disc changer is to use it to double as a CD changer. Unfortunately this one does not recognize CD-R's. If you record your own music onto CD-R, this is not the machine for you. It also has a habit of dropping frames in DVD and makes popping sounds on music CD's. The programable...

Also, I've noticed a white, horizontal line of static appear totally random from time to time during DVD playback also. Furthermore, like other RCA video products I've owned it the past, the video cuts out for a fraction of a second during white desolves (where the screen goes completely white) or thunder effects, explosions, etc. during DVD playback. I would not recommend this player for DVDs. Sony will soon be releasing a new 5-disc changer, the model DVP-C660D to replace its DVP-C650D. This player will also be priced at the $350 mark! I'll keep my RCA DVD/CD Changer as a CD changer only.

3.0 out of 5 stars DVD Changer A Plus... Graphical Distortion Distracting..., December 14, 2000
By
This review is from: RCA RC5910P 5-Disc DVD Player (Electronics)
All right, you'll see good and bad reviews on this, mostly professional reviewers will give good, and owners bad. I would venture to say that most will not notice the problems till they have owned it for a few weeks.

I have to say that the features built into this player are great, and having the 5 disk changer can allow for movie marathons you wouldn't believe. The problem with this player is that you will get graphical distortions and full frame losses at random times. This can happen as frequently as 10 times in one movie, to none at all. After owning as many electronics as I have in the past, I would venture to guess this might be caused by a touchy power supply, but I'm no electronics engineer. I have recently picked up the 5 disk from Hitachi, which seems to be the exact same piece of hardware, and still maintains the same problems.

Depending on the movie(s) you'll love or hate this player.

2.0 out of 5 stars Unsatisfied customer!, April 28, 2001

They have a lot of nerve charging this much for a piece of garbage. I`ve only had this product for two days and I`ve already experienced full frame losses. In one instance the movie stopped completely! I do not recommend this product to anyone and all I have to say to someone that does buy it is buyer beware!! The only good thing I could say is that it`s fine as a cd player and that is all. I will think twice next time I make a purchase like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Same Model #, different features, February 4, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: RCA RC5910P 5-Disc DVD Player (Electronics)
I have this same DVD player(RC5910P), but it plays CDR and MP3 files. I cant seem to find a review or any info about my type of player. If you do find a model like mine, GET IT!!! The MP3 compatibility allows you to put about 200 songs on a CD...200 songs x 5 disc changer = 1000 songs at once! As for the other reviews which describe "skipping" during movies, I HAVE experienced this, but not more than 2 times during a movie(and nothing too horrible....If you blink, you'll miss it). Most of the time it doesnt skip at all. Compared to other DVD players I have seen, this problem occurs in almost all players. Overall, this is a damn good machine, and I would recommend it to anyone. Feel free to email me for any info or help.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Recommended, November 23, 2001
By
This review is from: RCA RC5910P 5-Disc DVD Player (Electronics)
I wish I had been more careful reasearching this unit before purchasing. I specifically went with the RCA in order to match other components in my home theater system, and I liked that the unit was lower priced than other 5 disc changers. That should have been a big red flag to me. I've had quite a few problems with the unit since purchase. Mainly, it will rarely play an entire DVD without frequently losing frames, freezing, or crashing completely. 8 out of 10 viewings, the movie will cease to play midway through, and I will have to power down the machine and "let it rest" before being able to continue. Very temperamental with CD playback as well. Lots of skipping and crashing, especially when using the random playback feature.

I don't recommend the purchase of this unit at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spoiled by this dvd player...., December 16, 2000

This is the first dvd and only dvd player I've ever owned. I am so spoiled with the 5 disc, that I can't possibly believe how anyone could stand a one disc dvd player. I've had this dvd player for more than 6 months, and not once, has it ever done any of these 'frame losses',etc. I have saw no glitches. Now, I am not a 'home theatre junkie', just a normal girl who loves movies, but I have to say that this must be one of the best dvd players out there.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not reocommend the RC5910P RCA DVD player, April 10, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: RCA RC5910P 5-Disc DVD Player (Electronics)
I received this unit as a gift. I primarily use the unit as a DVD player. It has been *very* disappointing. I have yet to play a single DVD without at least some frame dropping experience. At first I thought it was due to scratched or damaged DVD rentals. I also experience this behavior, however, with new DVD's. At least 30% of the DVD's I have played stop altogether, whereupon the player displays a "Disk Unplayable" message. Sometimes this can be "worked around" by powercycling the player and sometimes by skipping over the troublesome bit by advancing well beyond the stop point and then "rewinding" back to just after the freeze would have happened. All in all this makes for a *terrible* movie watching experience. I would not recommend this product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Run Away!, August 15, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: RCA RC5910P 5-Disc DVD Player (Electronics)
This is a pile. It has skipped and paused and down right slammed ever since we got it. We buy lots of DVDs and this thing is just horrible.

The features and controls are nice enough but the stuttering is just bad. ... I bought a DVD player to play DVDs. Not to have it drop frame and mess up every dvd I watch.

Edit the part about you can get mine off the curb where I left it with the garbage. It was taken away by the garbage guys.

I replaced it with a Sony NS715p. HOLY MOLY. What a difference. LOTR played all the way through without a single stutter. We have watched about 15 movies since and not one single error. None of the rentals skipped even a beat.

Don't get the Sony just cause I like it.. ... It will cause you nothing but stress. Every time I watched a movie I spent more time wondering if it was gonna slam somewhere in the middle.

4.0 out of 5 stars Satisfied so far, December 31, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: RCA RC5910P 5-Disc DVD Player (Electronics)
Bought one on sale at Radio Shack. Installed at home in less than 30 minutes (already have an RCA TV, Receiver etc... so interoperability was a big issue for me). Played Audio cd's and 1 movies so far. First movie about 20 minutes in the movie stopped playing, I cleaned the CD, put it back in and it worked fine until the end. no issues with the cd so far. biggest complain is with the remote control - i now have 2 rca remotes (both "universal"), i love PIP feature on my tv but the DVD remote does not have the PIP buttons and the TV remote does not have all DVD buttons - so i'm stuck still having to use 2 remotes.
