Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The RC6001P DVD's progressive-scan video output produces a smooth, filmlike picture on today's digital televisions. Haven't gone digital yet? Component, composite, and S-video outputs accommodate standard and HD-ready sets.

Full compatibility with audio CDs, CD-R/CD-RW, and MP3-CDs makes the player great for most disc-based music. It's also Dolby Digital and DTS ready, so if you're using a compatible surround receiver with a 5.1-channel speaker system, you'll enjoy immersive digital surround sound via the RC6001P's optical (Toslink) digital-audio output.

On the video side, the RC6001P performs 10-bit digital-to-analog conversion. A Y-Pr-Pb component-video output makes an optimal connection with a component-video-equipped television. Picture zoom lets you magnify onscreen images by two or four times, with the ability to pan left/right and up/down in zoom mode.

Parental rating control gives studios the capability to put the control of movie viewing where it belongs--in parents' hands. The RC6001P lets you choose what is suitable for your child to see. Without a password, the rating control cannot be altered--perfect for those times when adult supervision is not always possible.

Other features include dynamic range compression (compresses the quiet-to-loud range of a Dolby Digital disc's soundtrack, bringing dialogue and sound effects closer to the same level); onscreen displays (available in English, French, and Spanish); multiple aspect ratios (with the press of a button, the player can switch between 4:3, 4:3-letterbox, and 16:9 formats, with compatible discs); display dimming (select between bright and dim to adjust the brightness of the player's front-panel display); and multilanguage/subtitle capability (DVDs can support eight audio languages, 32 subtitle tracks, and closed captioning).

The RC6001P includes a stereo-audio/composite-video interconnect and a detachable AC power cord.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome player, very modern look, December 12, 2001
This review is from: RCA RC6001P Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
I have an RCA TV and VCR so wanted to keep my DVD player "all in the RCA family" and I love it. I love the MP3 on-screen menu list all your mp3's by name, this is a great feature, the picture quality of the DVD playback is incredible, and the sound through my SONY receiver is surround theater quality, to my downstairs neighbor's horror :). My TV is a little older but all the cables needed were in the box, mine even came with an S-video cable, other players make you buy cables extra. A complaint, which is actually a compliment is that the sound is so theater like that some little backgound noises from the movie are picked up as well, leaving you feeling like your in the premiere of the movie, not too bad for $(...), plus I've seen it for $(...) at other places. The remote is great but, I still prefer to use my Sony universal remote to control all my components(I have a totol of 8 so need to keep the remotes to a minimum). All in all I love this player, the quality is 10 times better than the normal DVD playback plus with 20gb of mp3's I'm set for a couple of years with this baby. Hope this review helps.

1.0 out of 5 stars All show and no go, March 28, 2002
This review is from: RCA RC6001P Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
I bought a Hitachi 53" widescreen HDTV and decided to buy a progressive scan DVD to get the best possible picture. On the surface this model is the best bang for the buck and looks cool. When it's working the picture is pretty good too.

Unfortunately it's progressive scan performance ...[is bad]. Every time a scene comes along with lots of action and/or a high amount of white color the picture gets a horizontal black line through the top quarter of the picture or the top quarter starts to shake or the picture simply shuts down for a few seconds like something overloaded. ...Exchanged it for another one and guess what! Didn't waste my time on a third one. ...Don't waste your time with this RCA unit.

This review is from: RCA RC6001P Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
This player has all the features I am craving. progressive scan for my soon to come hdtv, a 5.1 decoder, optical out, coax out, and a really cool glow on the front panel. I am very happy i can watch my xvcd's of my kids birthday which i made on a cd-r at a high bitrate(2000 video, 160 audio). it plays nicely with no studder or pausing sound. MP3's play nicly with a great mp3 menu system that shows you directorys on the left and files on the right. this unit had digital zoom! you can also fast forward thru your mp3's.
