4.0 out of 5 stars Fine for Satellite Receivers Including Tivos
I use the RC926 to add an extra phone jack for my DirecTivos and standalone DirecTV receiver. All three receivers are split off from the extension jack and I have never had a problem with the units making the required service data call.

2.0 out of 5 stars Works good for phones but not for modems
The advertising for the RCA RC926 is deceptive. While it is described as a wireless modem jack, only after one opens the package and looks at the documentation does one discover that the modem speed is limited to 14,400 baud and more usually 9600 baud. That was slow even 5 years ago; now it is virtually useless when most modems operate at 33600 or 56000 baud

I use the RC926 to add an extra phone jack for my DirecTivos and standalone DirecTV receiver. All three receivers are split off from the extension jack and I have never had a problem with the units making the required service data call.

Edit: I also have DSL but use 2Wire filters (not the generic filters provided by Verizon) for greater clarity. A filter has to be placed between the jack and the wireless BASE unit for the wireless extension unit to function properly with DSL.

Note: Tivos and DirecTivos DO HAVE MODEMS so Rios' title header is somewhat misleading. But the facts in the body of the review are correct. Per Page 10 of RCA's manual (which is available on their website): "Note: The maximum baud rate for the Wireless Phone Jack is 14,400. Best results, however, will be experienced at 9,600." This limitation is why I knocked off a star.

So yes, I would not recommend that you attempt to surf the Internet using this jack or use it for any purpose where a high baud rate is important. But the phone jack is perfectly fine for voice, fax, and satellite receiver use.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a really cool solution!, May 5, 2000

I bought the product recently for my entertainment room which has no phone connections. It works just fine for my purposes - additional phone line and hooking up my satellite dish to the phone line. Its awesome for old houses that have a limited # of phone lines.

4.0 out of 5 stars I have had this product for 8 months and it works great!, August 21, 1999

Really, like this product is the answer to having an additional phone line that you can take with you. Great for vacation homes and the answer to not adding an additional connection in an apartment.

Trust me it does not work. I have tried it on all rooms, and
does not transmit. Waste of money. If you want an item that does work I have found the SBC wireless to be the best and you can buy it at amazon or walmart.

I am having a problem with the connection fading in mid conversation. This happens almost every call and I have to keep calling back. I have tried using different electrical outlets, but it doesn't help.

I connected a phone on the extension. Connection is stable (i.e., didn't lose connection during a phone call), but the sound quality is not good. For whatever reason, I HEAR MY OWN VOICE SO LOUD (I tried with several phone sets that work perfectly at ordinary outlets) that I can't carry on a conversation more than a few mins. I just answer there and quickly switch to another phone. I would not recommend it if you plan to use it for a serious cause.

I purchased this item so I could place a fax machine in a room that didn't have an phone jack - It works excellent. I have the flexibility to move the fax machine anywhere. this is an excellent product and it works great.

If you need to add a phone extension without cables or need to hook up a fax machine this product is ok, but for modems and internet connections, your speed will go dooooooown to 9600 or even less.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, November 16, 2007

This product is great. Plug it in and you get a phone jack wherever you want. I recently had a direct tv receiver moved to another room where there was no phone jack. You just pop this in the wall outlet and plug it into your TV. Easy to use.
