My father bought this boombox a few months ago. It worked great when he first bought it- everything worked, the sound was great etc. Now, when I play a CD is makes a whirring, scratching sound but it still plays the CD. Also, when I play a CD nothing shows up on the panel where it tells you what track your on or how long you are into the CD. It's blank and nothing shows up. And, the radio stopped working. I was trying to listen to the radio one day and it didn't work. There was nothing wrong with the antennae and I never dropped it or did anything to destroy it. It shows me the radio station but nothing plays, even though the volume is all the way up.

Overall, this boombox is a piece of junk. Played the first few months and now the radio doesn't work, neither does the CD playing properly. Do not buy this product, yo9u will regret it and ask for a different one.1 out of 5 stars.

We bought this boombox based on the previous review. I think we got a lemon! The box sounds Great, just as the previous review said. But, The first day we had it the CD started skipping. The second day the antenna broke off just above the attachment point. I contacted RCA and thought "no problem" it's under warranty. RCA told me to contact a service center and have my credit card number ready. Nope... Not paying for Anything that is supposed to be under warranty. Great idea RCA, sounds really Good while it worked (two days), but it's JUNK made with cheap parts! Save your money.

I was looking for a boombox to use as a stereo system for my daughter's room. The one feature she insisted on was a remote control, so we looked at the RCD147.

We went to Best Buy (the price there is $40) and I tuned all the boomboxes to the same radio station to compare the sound. The RCD147 blew away everything else comparable at Best Buy for how loud it would play and for the bass, including a larger SONY model costing $70.

We like the looks and size of this box. We wanted one that didn't have cassette - my daughter doesn't play cassettes, and we didn't want to pay for a feature we don't use (not to mention all the extra button clutter).

The POWER BOOSTER switch lets you turn the power boost off to conserve battery life, but we run it on AC, so the feature stays on. The FM has digital tuning, another feature we like. The digital display points forward rather than at an upward angle, making it hard to see sometimes, but other than that, it's hard to find fault with this model. (It won't play MP3 disks either, but we don't care.)

Hearing the bass thumping from my daughter's room, I think I may have created a monster.

Worked fine for 4-5 weeks, then completely stopped working. It turned on, could change radio stations, could play cd, only problem is only a slight hum would come out of the speakers, nothing else. RCA said send it back for a new one. Can't wait to see how long the new one lasts.

I bought one of these and the remote lasted for three hours and then stopped working.
I took it back to Best Buy and got another radio. The remote works but the radio only worked for about five minutes. The CD plays but the radio doesn't work at all.
I am taking it back and buying a different brand

This item must have been a lemon. It would not read the various CDs when inserted (both new and old ones). Ended up having to ship back to Amazon for a credit.

The remote failed to work soon after receiving - not sure if that is permanent (ie: batteries I have are in question). The CD player is not anti-skip, so certain high-vibrate songs will make the CD skip - even at moderate volumes. Sometimes you have to push-in the buttons on the player a little harder than normal (may be the problem for other neg comments in past on here). The sound quality is good for the price. The FM reception is not the greatest, but could be the building/part of town I live in. The FM stations have a hard time of locking-in the stereo reception (comes in mono alot). Everything else is good for price - good appearance.

The cd player is great!I have a cd that won't play on my cd player and it dose on this one!
