5.0 out of 5 stars Solid remote, good price
I noticed all the negative feedback after purchasing this remote. I picked it up about a month ago, and have really enjoyed it. Took me all of 10 minutes to figure out how the various setup options worked, had it completely configured in about an hour. Didn't have any trouble with the learning function (perhaps those that did weren't holding the remotes properly as specified in the manual). All my equipment is working perfectly with this remote. Give it a chance, return it if you encounter the problems others are mentioning. Haven't had to change batteries either, or maxed out the memory yet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a touchscreen fan, but it's still a good remote., April 29, 2004

I've had absolutely no problems with setting up and programming this remote. It's really easy to program, of course you have to read the manual, but it should take an idiot about 20 minutes to get things up and running.

The problem is the touchscreen, if you have fat fingers, you might have a problem. And for me, I'm always looking to change the channel quickly, and at night, I don't want to be looking around to change the channel, I like to feel the buttons and memorize where the numbers are, but with the touchscreen, no can do. Of course, that is my own problem and shouldn't be used to put this remote down.

This remote truely is a great remote and can easily get a 5 star. I'm surprised to read the other feedbacks about the physical problems of this remote. I've had mine for over a year now and it's been great.

If you're looking for a remote that can do anything and everything, then this is the one for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible Remote, July 5, 2003

The remote is basically useless. The learning feature does not work on any newer products. After less than 2 weeks it stopped working completely. Save your money and buy a cheaper remote.

1.0 out of 5 stars Possibly the worst piece of electronic equipment EVER!!!!, February 13, 2003
This review is from: RCA RCU1000B Touchscreen Learning Remote Control (Electronics)
I bought this remote just over a year ago. At first it was great! I got it set up and it worked well with everything. Just the other day however, way past the warranty dates, the thing went haywire. Everything lit up and then it froze. I couldn't do anything with it. I looked for trouble-shooting tips in the manual...There's nothing. I called RCA and their technicians don't know anything about the remote. They just told me to take the batteries out for a couple of minutes, push any button for at least one minute, put the batteries back in, and then try to reset it. Nope...It's a no-go!!!! 1 star is really pushing it for this item. I only gave it that much because I had to to write this review!

1.0 out of 5 stars Dunce, it doesn't learn., October 8, 2005
This review is from: RCA RCU1000B Touchscreen Learning Remote Control (Electronics)
I got the remote and quickly did a code search for all my components. Then I tried the functions provided and found that only half of them worked. (I could scroll Up and Right in my TV's menu but not Down or Left). Then I tried fixing the commands that didn't work and add the ones that were missing. I did get a couple of commands learned but 99% of them refused to be learned making this remote an expensive paper weight.

I tried this one and the RCU900 and really liked the RCU900. It was quick, learned well.. and works with my Mitsubishi TV, Kenwood Home theatre, and Toshiba DVD and VCR... learned really easy. I am impressed by both of them, but the RCU is really streamlined!!

Complete waste of time. I have fought with it for hours and not very user friendly at all. The learning function is basically worthless.

1.0 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk, December 31, 2002

This review is from: RCA RCU1000B Touchscreen Learning Remote Control (Electronics)
I bought this remote about a year ago and immediatly was having problems. First of all the batteries that came with it were dead. After replacing it with fresh batteries the remote had a hard time learning the different functions of other remotes. I kept getting error messages for my TV, DVD, and reciever. After about 3 hours of programing the remote, It would forget the commands just as fast. Even reprograming and replacing the batteries didn't help. Since the remote was still under warranty I decided to return it to the manufacturer(Thompson Multimedia). Boy was this a bad idea. During the past year I have made over 50 phone calls to customer service and they sent me back two wrong remotes (cheapest ones too) So about a month ago Thompson Multimedia finally sent me a RCU1000B. I immediately went to the store where i bought it and begged them to let me exchange it for the Sony RM-AV3000. The sony remote is twice as [much] but definately worth it. It is awesome and it works great. If you want to buy a piece of junk, buy the RCA 1000B. If you want the best universal remote that works, get the Sony.

2.0 out of 5 stars There are much better remotes on the market., December 29, 2002

I am on my second RCA 1000B remote and both had problems. The first one got messed up when I tried to change the button labels on the LCD touch screen and the wrong buttons were popping up when I pressed my VCR button. I removed the batteries and reset the unit only to still find similar problems. I returned it for an identical unit thinking that it was simply a malfunction. The second one I brought home, the entire right hand side of the LCD display did NOT accept any input. Any button located on that side of the screen just did not work. That's two for two for RCA and that does it. I'm returning it first thing in the morning and purchasing the Sony AV3000 - hopefully I'll have better luck with that.
