Control as many as four devices through a single remote with this RCA learning model. The value of a learning remote is obvious: it lets you enjoy many of the functions of your existing remotes, including less common functions, so you don't have to repeatedly pull the old remote out of storage. To use the learning function, simply point the RCA remote at the old remote from a distance of roughly 2 inches, press the code search button until it lights up, and then assign a favorite function to one of the four Learning buttons. The remote can learn such functions as picture-in-picture, video switching, and a host of other choices.

Even without the learning buttons, however, the remote controls the primary functions of most brands of TVs, VCRs, DVD players, cable boxes, and satellite receivers. It boasts such VCR- and DVD-specific buttons as rewind, play, fast forward, record, pause, and stop, while the TV buttons include channel recall, which returns you to a previous station; a mute button that silences the volume; and a TV/VCR button for switching to/from the VCR's antenna. Every bit as valuable is the code search button, which scans through a variety of codes for the most popular electronics brands, and the intuitive onscreen menu display. To help users get started right out of the box, the remote is preprogrammed for use with several RCA devices and also comes with an extensive code library for the most common TV, DVD, VCR, cable box, and satellite brands.

Additional features include a code saver (lets you change batteries without losing the codes), a menu key, and a sleep timer. The remote, which measures 4.2 by 11.1 by 1.8 inches (W x H x D), also comes with a pair of AAA batteries and is backed by a 90-day warranty.

This is the worst remote I've ever used. It is so small that
it is hard to handle, and the buttons are tiny and difficult
to locate and manage. They are also unresponsive, taking two
to three very hard pushes before anything happens. After fighting
with it for two days, I bought another brand.

It works OK except that it keeps forgetting the TV code, and I have to reprogram it (about once a week). Not a big deal, since I've already memorized the code, but still, it's annoying when you buy something and it doesn't work.

It's a nice looking little unit that works for up to 4 devices. The only thing I would complain about is that the record button is too close to the reverse button, and of same color; you could press record unintentionally as your meant to rewind.
