RCA RP2612 Personal CD Player with FM Tuner

I'm a walker - if the day is pretty, I'll stroll aimlessly for hours. While I own an iPod, I wanted a CD player so I could borrow audio books from the library. Faced with a confusing display of numerous models, I remembered that one of my good friends has a CD player with a remote. This remote is very helpful if you want to put the CD player in, say, a backpack, but still want to control the device. After 15 minutes of just staring at the different models, I finally decided on this one.

I couldn't be happier with my choice. Amazon's image doesn't show the remote, which fits into the headphone hole. Headphones (also included) fit into a hole on the top of the remote. Maybe this doesn't sound like much, but it's a wonderful idea for two reasons. First, you don't have to settle for the stock headphones, if you want something nicer. Second, if you're sitting at the computer, say, typing up a review for Amazon, and you hear the phone ring, you can quickly detach the headphones from the remote and dash to the phone.

The anti-skip feature is wonderful, perfect for those quick sprints across a busy highway. I haven't tried running for an extended period of time, however.

The battery life is amazing: I've had this CD player for over a week, and am still using the first set of batteries I bought.

If you're right in the middle of a track and you turn the CD player off (by pressing stop), it saves your position. Next time you start the CD player, you'll be right when you ended. _Very_ handy, and not just for audio books.

I'm not sure if this is universal for CD players or not - this is only the second I've ever owned, the first one being when I was eight - but if you press and hold either the back or forwards skip button, the player will rewind or fast forward, respectively.

Another wonderful feature that Amazon doesn't mention is the "preset" feature - you can pop in a CD and choose the order in which the songs play.

Bass boost - which Amazon _does_ mention - is a nice touch, though nothing extraordinary. Same with the FM radio.

Like I said above, I got this at Wal-Mart, and I paid just under $35, while Amazon offers it for $36. A low price for a high-quality machine? Wow. Bargain alert!

Received in good condition and in a timely manner. I love programming only the songs I want to hear!

The hold switch fell off at first use. The buttons on top are not labeled, no arrows, squares, etc. At least it works, I guess.

So I needed a portable CD player to listen to my Spanish CDs for school. I thought I could get a cheaper one online and I did--this one. I was thrilled to get the package and opened it immediately. I did everything I was supposed to do and it started playing. I was relieved; I could finally listen to my Spanish CDs everywhere!

I was listening for about twenty minutes when I was diverted and could not listen. I flipped the back of the player and saw there was a "hold" button switch. Neato! The switch is embedded and is smaller than the size of a winding knob on a watch. In other words, it was tiny. The opening to push the switch was no wider than 3/4 inch. I dug in with my pinky fingernail (yes, the opening was that small) to turn on the hold but it wouldn't move. So I used the end of a key to push it over. The switch disappeared. It was on hold, but now there was no way I could take it off hold. I tried turning it off, I tried removing the batteries to reset it--I put them back in a few minutes later and the hold remained, I left the batteries out for a day and that hold was still there.

I did have this a one star because something like that should not break that easily. Even the people who I bought it from told me that they get them returned often. I liked that it automatically turned off after a few minutes, and it sounded nice. The headphones were extremely short--between 12-18 inches--which did not work for me because I wanted to put it in my purse.

Good luck if you buy it. You might as well prepare yourself to not ever put it on hold and buy some more headsets before receiving it. This is the first time I bought something like this online and this reminded me of why I am extremely reluctant to buy anything online.

Lid to CD player wiil not latch Amazon sent me a replacement however it would not close also. I never received credit for the unit.
