Do not buy!,

This review is from: RCA RP4010 Desktop CD Clock Radio with Remote Control (Electronics)
This clock radio sounds great but it has a major manufacturing defect. Other reviews have mentioned it. There is a loud clicking sound when you play cd's. This sound comes from the edge of the cd scraping against the interior of the cd tray (the little black pegs to be specific). Also there is a 3.25 inch CD that the manufacturer has built into the cd player as a sound demo for stores or something. This small CD is glued to the bottom of the device that holds the CD down causing this device to not sit correctly, which in turn causes the CD to wobble and to scrape the inside of the CD tray.I purchased this clock radio and returned it to the RCA for repairs they sent me a new one (four weeks later) with the same problem. So, I cracked it open and fixed it myself. removing the 3.5" demo CD and scraping down the black plastic pegs. I am not recommending you do the same. What I am recommending is for everyone to avoid this clock radio. And if you already have it and you have the same problem don't send it back for repairs, just get your money back.

Good sound, bad CD player,
This review is from: RCA RP4010 Desktop CD Clock Radio with Remote Control (Electronics)
Got one of these to have in our new baby's room because of the remote feature. Being able to turn on/off, up/down without walking on the creaky floor is important with a new born :)Sound was very rich for both the CD player and the radio. Fairly easy to set time/date. Never used the alarm feature. The CD player itself, however, was horrible. Would not read several CDs, made loud clicking noises when it did work. I took it back to the store where I purchased it and exchanged it for another one. Same thing happened. Really disappointed. So - still looking for a clock radio/cd player solution. Pros: Sound quality, remote, ease of use Cons: CD player would not read properly, also made loud clicking noises

I liked the idea of a clock radio/CD player with a remote. But...the CD player is very loud. I mean...you can hear the CD spinning! The motor, I mean. Just awful. I have had to play the CD while putting two CD cases under the radio. Leaving the radio tilted about three inches off the table. Only then does the wizzing sound of the CD stop. Just awful!!! You can hear the motorized spinning sound. For $79, not worth keeping. I am returning. This was my second one, by the way. Beware! Do not buy!!!

I needed an alarm clock to replace my old small (and fast may I add) clock radio, I seen the RCA RP4010 clock at Circuit City (I had no choice, I work there.) I was showing it to a customer and I was suprized at it becasue it had the SRS TruBass feature on it, so after work I bought one for myself. When I got home and put in a CD in it, I was amazed! The sound quality is awesome coming from a clock radio. I like how it has digital tuning, this clock reminds me alot of the Bose Wave CD/Radio clock. The only thing I didn't like was the size, it's pretty big, but i guess it is since my old one was kinda small, but I can live with it. The price Circuit City had was 79.99. But I think there discontinuing them.

Should have heeded reviews!,

My clock radio, too, was defective -- the motorized CD compartment door would not operate correctly. After several dozen attempts, the compartment opened only twice. The sound of the radio was terrific, though, and I was sorry to have to return it for credit.

AMAZING sound, rivals the Bose Wave!,

This review is from: RCA RP4010 Desktop CD Clock Radio with Remote Control (Electronics)
I wanted to replace my dinky $5.00 clock radio, and I also wanted one that played CD's for my small bedroom. I searched all over and could not find one that sounded good. THEN I found the RCA 4010. PHENOMINAL sound, and for the price, it rivaled the $499 Bose Wave radio . Remote works great. Here's my pro's and cons list..Pros: GREAT sound! I'm a musician, so I appreaciate good sound quality. It uses wave length synthesis, similar to Bose for rich bass! Nice looks, it's white, which doesn't match anything else in the room, but it's clean, and classy, much better than the ultra modern stuff available that I looked at. Easy to use, I managed to set the alarm(s) and time, and figure out all the features with a quick scanning of the short manual in a few min. CONS: I had to buy it twice, the CD "lid" would not open on the first one I bought, and from reading the other reviews, this is a common problem. Not very easy to read from different angles. The LCD is set too far back inside the bezel, so it's difficult to read the time when you are close to it unless you are looking it dead on. From about 5 ft. this is not a problem though. No aux input. The sound is so good on this thing, I would love to be able to plug my "dream machine" into it. Overall, I would highly recommend this to anyone who's looking for a CD alarm, you can't go wrong for $80. Enjoy!

Awesome Big CD Alarm Clock,

This CD/Alarm Clock sounds more like a stereo. The sound is amazing. You can feel the bass standing in front of it. The reception is great. It uses the power cord for the antenna. It has battery backup. It has every thing I wanted.

DO NOT BUY! FLAWED PRODUCT!,

I have never been more disappointed in an electronics product. The features were exactly what I was looking for, and the sound quality was excellent; BUT shortly after I got it the cd mechanism began clicking and skipping. Soon it simply wouldn't work anymore. I returned the product and RCA sent me a replacement. AMAZINGLY the replacement has the SAME PROBLEM!!Based on all the reviews I've seen, this is an epidemic with this model and RCA should definitely be ASHAMED! Thompson Consumer Electronics is the manufacturer. They also manufacture Lyra, Proscan, GE and other major products. I will avoid all RCA products based on this experience.

Alarm Clock Design - Getting closer,
By
This review is from: RCA RP4010 Desktop CD Clock Radio with Remote Control (Electronics)
I have tried them all: two versions of the Timex (poor sound, poor radio tuner), two versions of the Philips (poor radio tuner, slightly better sound, cd broke too quickly), and this one. The main thing these alarm clocks have in common is they let you sleep on the weekends (or any two consecutive days). So far the RCA is the best of the bunch. The digital radio tuner tunes fairly well (if it had an antenna, it probably could do better), and the sound is quite nice. It's missing an aux in (for my mp3 player/laptop) but doesn't really need an aux out. The footprint is quite large, it could have been designed a bit more compactly. The major issue with this unit is that after 3 months, the cd player started making a nasty noise, and now on occasion won't play at all. What a bummer.

RCA SHOULD BE ASHAMED,
By Rene Mo! (Los Angeles, CA (Where Else?)) - See all my reviews
This review is from: RCA RP4010 Desktop CD Clock Radio with Remote Control (Electronics)
This clock radio/ CD player is a piece of junk. We have had it for 1 year. The CD player makes noises and has a fit (door to player slams itself open and closed if you try to insert a CD). The CD player mechanics are extremly loud. The reviews below are all correct. The clock radio should never have been distributed. Dont companies conduct quality control anymore? RCA will never get a penny from us again. DO NOT PURCHASE this product. Save yourself from the fustration, and from being ripped off. Where is David Horowitz when you need him???Amazon- you should stop selling this clock radio ASAP. |
