If you are reading this review, you may have already spent hours looking for a mysteriously elusive product: the decent clock radio. Look no further.

I spent months searching for clock radio that would fit my (seemingly simple) needs. I finally found this one, put it to the test and am impressed with the results. The product is so good that I'm writing my first-ever review. I hope you find it helpful.

Product pros:
- numbers are big enough to read without glasses
- soft green doesn't illuminate the whole bedroom
- dimmer switch available
- grad-u-wake feature: the only buzzer I've experienced that isn't jarring/ugly
- small footprint on the nightstand
- programmable nap & snooze durations
- dual alarms can both be set to radio or buzzer
- adequate radio quality
- simple, easy, inexpensive

Product cons:
- none

Finally someone got all the features right. See for yourself! Bonsoir.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of features for a little price............, April 16, 2007

I really like the "ramp-up" alarm tone; it helps me wake up without feeling startled. It's a very firm beep tone which increases in volume. I believe it would wake up even heavy sleepers at it's peak sound level. It reaches the loud level about 40 seconds after it starts beeping.

The forward and backward buttons make it easy to set the time and alarm time. Another nice feature is programming your own snooze-button time.

It has a low profile and looks attractive. I have minimal space on the headboard, and this fits very well, being only about 6-1/2" wide.

The green LED display is bright enough if you like it bright. This model has a low-brightness switch, which dims the display if you want. It is still easily readable on the low setting too.

Don't expect to tune in many weaker radio stations, after all, this is a lower priced radio . The speaker is mono, and just good enough to fall asleep to. One thing that does bother me a bit......below a certain volume the radio cuts out completely. I like to play the radio at very low volumes and cannot do that on this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Less is more: The Perfect Alarm Clock, February 23, 2008

I have been looking for a good clock for years, and found this here. Here is what I like about it:
* Large numbers readable from the other side of the bed without lighting up the room.
* The indispensable nap function (absent on many higher models).
* Simple styling does not add to or alter decor.
* Easy to set without 15 buttons like my last clock.
* Any button works as snooze. What is special about a 9-minute snooze?
* Gradual alarm volume starts soft and increases over time, no more fire-alarms!
* Two independent alarms to avoid resetting for a special wake-up time.
* The radio tunes well and sounds adequate, but who wants to fall asleep or wake up to jarring commercials?
* The price! $10 on amazon is a great value.

This is perfect to use as an alarm. If you want a sound system to play music, consider a separate sound system, but still use this as your alarm.

5.0 out of 5 stars great alarm clock with many features!, December 4, 2007

Just bought this alarm for my wife who wanted "something cheap" and of course I had to find the best one for the money. This is it.

Pros: Ramp-up alarm volume, adjustable display brightness, programmable snooze time, battery back-up, looks much better than amazon picture (two-tone black/ silver case with lime green display)

Cons: Only thing it didn't come with is a 9V battery for back-up :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great to wake!, July 16, 2007
This review is from: RCA RP5400 Smart Snooze Dual Wake AM/FM Clock Radio (Electronics)
This alarm clock is wonderful!

The display is a lovely lime green, and can be bright or dimmed at the slide of a switch.

There are 2 alarms that can be programmed for different times, and each has the option of being a rather pleasent bleepy noise or the fm/am radio.

There are several alarm off buttons and they have other functions when the alarm is not going, I never use them but a 'Snooze' is 9 minutes long and a 'Nap' is 59 minutes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great little clock, December 23, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: RCA RP5400 Smart Snooze Dual Wake AM/FM Clock Radio (Electronics)
Overall this clock is just what I wanted... pretty small as most cheaper clocks are... but with good features. It's got a great buzzer that will gently wake you from a sound sleep, instead of sounding like something out of an 80s movie. The LED display is bright enough, without overpowering you. And it has 2 alarms! My only complaint is the buttons could be laid out a little better... and to set the time is a bit of a pain... no separate buttons for hour and minutes. But if you don't mind that, for the price you can't beat this clock.

It's not easy to get a clear channel and once you do, it doesn't stay that way.

This alarm clock has potential with a few tweaks by the manufacturer.
It's probably worth $10.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big buttons and display, December 13, 2007

Another reviewer said this clock looks much better than in the picture - I totally agree with that. I was very pleasantly surprised, especially that the top buttons are metal, not plastic as they look in the picture.

In addition to agreeing with other reviewers comments, I wanted to add that the buttons on the top, including the sliding button in center where you set your clock time and alarm times, are all good sized! It's wonderful because it makes it so easy to use. I even ordered a second one for my Mom - the display is large enough to see without glasses and the chunky buttons make it easy for stiff hands to set the time/alarms without fumbling and fuming.

I'd rate this as a great find for the price if you're looking for an easy-to-use, easy-to-see basic radio alarm clock.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I was looking for, November 21, 2007

Who'da thunk the $10 clock radio was the best one?

Features I like:

-peaceful green display (it's even nicer than the picture)

-display can be dimmed. My wife was especially happy about this after reading that other clocks had bright displays. Even at full brightness, it's not too bright. We keep it dimmed all the time and it's perfectly visible in daylight.

-ability to set Alarm #1 to "radio" and Alarm #2 to "alarm" (and vice-versa)

-gradually increasing volume of the "alarm" (eases me out of sleep instead of jolting me - and I sleep hard.)

-radio actually has very good reception

Things I don't like:

-too easy to hit the Nap button in the dark.

-too difficult to turn off Nap function in the dark. I'm not even sure you can turn Nap off, but I haven't read the manual yet.

It's a keeper.

1.0 out of 5 stars Definitely Avoid This Clock, April 27, 2007

I've had this alarm clock for less than 3 months. I absolutely loved this alarm clock until today. I came home and discovered it had froze up with some cryptic symbols that don't even resemble the time. You can push every button and nothing happens, even unplugging it does nothing. I have never heard of a clock freezing up before. But after a little research, it seems a lot of different models of RCA alarm clocks are freezing up like this. This will be the last RCA product I will ever purchase, as I had problems with their other products too.
