5.0 out of 5 stars Good clock for the money
I am very happy with this clock radio/CD player. I especially like that the time can be set forward and backward and that the time display is easy to see without the light from it keeping me awake. The radio and CD player sound fine for what I use it for and for the price. The control buttons are in a good location and easy to use in the dark, once you know where...

1.0 out of 5 stars DOES NOT wake to any CD track, just track 1.
This clock DOES NOT wake to any CD track, just track 1. The description is WRONG. Otherwise, it's an okay product, small and compact, simple to operate. I'm just disappointed because I bought it specifically to wake my 6-year-old daughter to a specific song on a CD (which isn't track 1, unfortunately). 4.0 out of 5 stars Decent for the price, November 16, 2008
This review is from: RCA RP5605R AM/FM CD Clock Radio with Large LED Display (Electronics)
I got this cheap alarm clock hoping it's two speakers would sound better than my even cheaper alarm clock with one speaker. It does but not by much. The CD player is very quiet but I find that the buttons are rather loud. Changing the alarm time at night will often wake my wife. The CD always starts at the beginning when using the alarm so I found it helpful to make my own CDs with a different wake-up song on each one.

Pros

Controls are strait forward and function well
Quiet CD player
Easy to read display

Cons

Loud buttons
Sort of ugly

I'm just disappointed because I bought it specifically to wake my 6-year-old daughter to a specific song on a CD (which isn't track 1, unfortunately). I'm a tech-savvy guy...no user error here -- the product (and its manual) just doesn't have the feature specified. Filed a formal complaint with seller AND Amazon -- both chose to do NOTHING to resolve the issue. (They didn't even correct the description.) UPDATED INFO: THE CD PLAYER STOPPED WORKING AFTER 6 MONTHS, SO NOW IT'S JUST A CLOCK RADIO.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, cheap, quiet, just what we wanted., February 2, 2009
This review is from: RCA RP5605R AM/FM CD Clock Radio with Large LED Display (Electronics)
We bought and tried several different units that all had different deficiences. This does have only one alarm setting but that's okay since we only get up once a day. The display is red with a black background so there is no glow keeping you awake half of the night. The CD motor is the quietest of 5 units that we tried. We have no problems with the volume. It stays where we put it for falling asleep to the CD and waking to the radio. Don't get hung up on the bells and whistles that you'll never need, this works great.

1.0 out of 5 stars didn't last long, October 14, 2010
This review is from: RCA RP5605R AM/FM CD Clock Radio with Large LED Display (Electronics)
I bought 2 of these radios for different rooms in my house. Both of them started skipping after about 3 months use. They hardly play CD's anymore because they spend so much time skipping around. Also, one has stopped even registering that a CD is there. Also, I wish this player had had a headphone jack.

3.0 out of 5 stars Missing a few important features, December 2, 2009
This review is from: RCA RP5605R AM/FM CD Clock Radio with Large LED Display (Electronics)
I bought this clock to replace an older CD clock radio that had broken. The size is good--compact enough for a nightstand, unlike many CD clock radios--sound quality is OK, given the clock radio genre, and price is decent. It does have a battery back up.

However, the CD track for the alarm CANNOT be set. It is always track 1. Unfortunate, since i bought the clock to wake up to a particular song that is not track one. And it lacks a dimmer switch, so for those who like the room dark when sleeping it's distracting.

Am going to return it. A GE clock radio I had before this one was the same price range and had all of the features this one does plus programmable wake-up track and dimmer.

2.0 out of 5 stars RCA CD Clock Radio RP5605, December 1, 2010
This review is from: RCA RP5605R AM/FM CD Clock Radio with Large LED Display (Electronics)
I am replacing this player after using it for only a few weeks, for several reasons. The sound is fine, and the red display is not so bright that it creates too much light in the room. However, the CD player has a number of flaws: 1)It is completely non-programmable. There is no random setting or repeat setting, nor can you select a particular track. It always plays straight through starting with #1 and ending with #15. 2) Theoretically, you can return to the beginning of a track or skip to the next one. However, this function does not work. It will not skip a track, and if you try to repeat the track from the beginning, it will display the appropriate track number but will not start at that point. You must stop the CD and start again with #1.
3) It will play no more than 15 tracks. For example, if you attempt to play a 21-track CD, it will play tracks #1-15 and then shut off.

These problems cause this product to be unsuitable for me to use.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly designed, November 2, 2010
This review is from: RCA RP5605R AM/FM CD Clock Radio with Large LED Display (Electronics)
I bought this so I could wake up to some mellow music instead of a jarring beep. I should also add that I get up early, usually in the dark, before my wife. Yes, it's cheap, so my expectations weren't high, but it failed to live up to even those. I have several beefs with this poorly designed product:

1. It will only play the first track on the CD to wake you up.

2. It's impossible to tell which button is which by feel in the dark. This is especially important given problem number 3.

3. The alarm logic is a comlete disaster. If you push the snooze button after the alarm (CD in my case) starts, pushing any other button while in snooze mode will switch the alarm sound to a very loud annoying beep - exactly the thing I was trying to avoid with a CD alarm clock. My wife has about killed me on several occasions because of this. Once this has happened, there's no way to stop it except to unplug the clock (which I did this morning, hoping to save my marriage) and remove the backup battery (which I forgot about - divorce court here I come).

What a disapointment!

1.0 out of 5 stars Alarm always on - poor design, August 4, 2010
This review is from: RCA RP5605R AM/FM CD Clock Radio with Large LED Display (Electronics)
This is a funny little clock. I like the fact that it had a CD you could wake to. I like that it has a small footprint (well, it was smaller than the one it was replacing), I like the big numbers and apparent ease of use. When it came time to set the alarm, no problem. But to turn off the alarm for those days when you don't want to use it - it says "Push the alarm button repeatedly until lights quit flashing."
Thats it, just push it "repeatedly" - push it once, push it repeatedly, don't push it, and the lights are gonna flash.
Being able to turn the alarm off when you want seems to have been a last minute decision in design. Really kind of funny. So I just turn the volume completely down and let the alarm go off.
But that seemed so stupid to have to do all the time...so I returned it.
