3 Strikes, Your Out!,

I made the mistake of falling for a good sales pitch on this product a couple years ago. Of course this is a "newer model year" but it still has the same guts.
I was skeptical about buying RCA after my parents 5-disk player went out on them only 3 months after they purchased it. (STRIKE 1) RCA, which had a call center at that time, replaced it under warranty. ---That call center no longer exists, you have to take it to an authorized service center, so I have recently learned from the website.--- Shortly after I purchased this item, the replacement that RCA sent to my parents went out...in the same manner as the first one did. (STRIKE 2) This time, their "replacement" model made it exactly 1 year-3 months, so no longer was it covered under the warranty. Well, what do you know, now this one has gone out on me...same symptoms as the failures on my parent's systems. (STRIKE 3) This is what happens...you decide you want to watch a movie with the family. You are all excited, pop the disk in, and it says "Reading...Reading...Reading." After a few minutes, a message comes on the screen saying "This disk cannot be read. Check the region code..." The problem is the lazer that reads the disks itself. IT'S LIFE IS ONLY ABOUT 1-2 YEARS!!! Oh well, I now have a great surround-sound AM/FM stereo that cost me over $400 (paid $369 +tax for the system 2 years ago) when all was said and done. Did I mention it cost $30 just to get a quote for repairs? So, if you can afford to buy a new system that often or pay the $275 repair bill then go ahead and buy away. Otherwise, RCA has been a HUGE expense & disappointment for our family.

Just as the other reviewer has said, this system is terrible, only mine went out after only 3 months. After repeated calls to get it fixed and being told I needed to download a disk into the machine, the thing just died, wouldn't work at all. I was told it was out of warranty and it would cost more than it was worth to fix it. NEVER AGAIN will I purchase an RCA product. they suck.
