First of let me start by saying that you CANNOT compare this unit to a system that costs hundreds more... it simply cannot match the sound quality or the features. You can easily compare this to systems in the $200 range because the sound quality is very similar and this unit actually has more features than some of the $200+ home theater in a box units. Also, the main reason I bought this RCA was because the price seemed too good to be true (I paid $89 bucks with no rebate hassles!). Now with that said I must say that this really was one of the best audio purchases I have made in a long time. If you want the best sound and the latest features then this system is not for you (something with excellent sound and the latest features is at least $300 more than this). But as far as inexpensive home theater systems go.. this one is really a great choice for the money.

*** Plus Points Include: ***

- 5 disc changer that will play mp3's, dvds, vcds, cds, and even display jpeg pictures. You can load 5 DVDs with MP3s and you have yourself a 20+ Gb MP3 player!

- pretty good bass from the subwoofer that sounds rich without being too "thumpy"

- Overall audio quality is really much better than anything else in the $100 range

- usb port is the most convenient feature because it lets you quickly copy music off your pc onto a usb thumbdrive and play it on your home theater. You can even connect your digital camera to the port and look at pictures saved on the camera... a camera dock alone usually costs more than this home theater system!!

- everything is color coded to make installation a no brainer

*** Negative Points Inlcude: ***

- no sound settings(like hall, studio, concert, etc). This is not a big deal because most of the time people do not really use these settings. The only oddity is that there are no equalizer settings or even settings for bass and treble.

- No display for the track title or DVD title. This is the one major drawback of this unit... although it does list the titles and filenames on the tv screen. The LED screen on the unit only lists the track number and the time elapsed.

- No S-video out. Although it does have the more pricey component video out for newer progressive scan tvs.

- Speaker wire is a bit short if you have a large room... though it is perfect for small to medium sized rooms.

- Does not offer many connection options because it only has one video out and one (left and right) audio in.


Overally this is an incredible deal for people looking for their first home theater system. For the price of mid range boom box you can have a decent quality 5 disc home theater that sounds better and does so much more!

I recently bought this product and I LOVED IT. I have a moderate sized room and this this blows it away. The soung quality is great. The Bass is great. I love watching movies with the volume all the way up. This thing is loud and clear so i get to enjoy my movies.:)

The down sides, the volume only goes up to 40, but if your using it in a bedrooom that loud enough trust me.

Its not really ment for a big living space so if you want that youll need one with more watts

At first I set this up in the living room for a short time. It wasn't as loud at times as would have liked it to be but it still sounded good. However, when I moved it to my bedroom (which is smaller of course) the sound really came out! The bass is rich and, for a system without graphic eaqulizers, the sound is really good. It is color cordinated very well, which makes it incredibly simple to set up, and the remote controll is simple to use as well. I'm very pleased with this purchase and would hope others will feel the same. But remember that it sounds better in smaller rooms.

Although this is a good beginner/starter system, it is not as loud as I had hoped. There was a post that said that it was good for smaller living rooms, well I don't know that mine could get any smaller and it is not as loud as I had hoped.

The sound quality is decent though, and is really easy to setup. Everything is color coordinated.

This is a great product. I own one and bought this one for my sister and her husband for Christmas. Gives ample sound and the 5 disc compartment is great for keeping an array of kid's movies handy. Great picture, great sound, great price.

I was looking for an inexpensive surround sound system for my bedroom. I had speakers and wanted a DVD player with a built in amp. I couldn't find one so I got this instead and now I have two sets of speakers.

It was easy to set up, it had the Aux inputs which I use for watching TV. I wouldn't use this for my real system in the living room but for a little system for my bedroom it's great. The speaker wires are just barely long enough, I use the DVD changer more than I thought I would because I play audio and MP3 CDs in it as well.

My one complaint is the region coding. I thought region coding was just for US and Europe, but I have found at least a few DVDs from the local blockbuster that won't play and I can't find any hacks for this player. That is frustrating because I can't figure out what DVDs will play and what won't, but for the price I can't really complain.

This is a 5 disc DVD player that comes with surround sound speakers...for $99, what else could you ask for? The quality of the product is also pretty good even though it is under $100. I couldn't be happier!

I bought this system to be the sound component for a smaller room projection TV set up. The sound is MORE than adequate, in fact great in this size room. Do be warned that it is not wired for easy hookup to cable, you need to a little creative wiring. It is only set up for the included DVD, radio and MP3 abilities included, NOT outside cable or satellite. As others have said it is a breeze to set up. Also as others have said the provided speaker wiring is not adequate. Well, there is plenty for the rear speakers, but only about 6 feet provided for the front speakers. I had to splice and add to fix. Also, do NOT stack this unit on top or close to other components as it will go into "shut down" mode. Leave at least the 4" recommeneded space around all sides. Other than these easily fixable problems, this is a GREAT sounding little system. For the money you cannot find better than this.

I bought this home theater system as a gift for my husband. You can't beat it for the price. It was easy to set up, and the sound quality is amazing! The ones I looked at that compared to it were at least double the price and I am so glad I went with this one instead. It is easy to use and watching movies or listening to cds have never been more fun!

If you are in a dorm room or a small bedroom this is ideal for you. It packs just enough of sound for your video games of dvd. Its a cinch to hook up. i use it for my games, it is spectacular on Call of duty. But my only complaint is that the dvd player is alittle outdated looking and the subwoofer can be alittle better. but other than that, i love it. Great buy for a first time buyer or if your on a budget.
