Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The RCA RTD250 Home Theater System combines a single-disc DVD player and integrated receiver with one powered subwoofer and five compact satellite speakers. It offers 420 watts of total power output (120 watt subwoofer, 60 watts per five satellite speakers) and decodes Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II, and Dolby DTS surround sound for maximum sound effects.

The DVD player plays DVD and Video CD discs as well as CD, CD-R/RW discs recorded on a CD recorder. It can also play back your own burned MP3-CDs recorded with a bit-rate between 32 kbps and 320 kbps. The tuner presets can be used to store AM and FM stations (40 in total). This system includes the Thomson exclusive NEO-5 technology--a compact design that enables quick and easy management of five discs. When the "open" button is pressed, the NEO-5 changer ejects all five discs, so they can be viewed at the same time (four if one is playing). This functionality allows for easy identification and fast disc change. Unlike standard elevators systems, with NEO-5 technology 5 discs can be simultaneously loaded and the location of each disc can be identified with one simple button push. Digital Cinema and Video Mode Progressive Scan adds 3:2 pulldown, which doubles the lines of resolution and motion compensation. These features eliminate scan lines on a video image and produce a clear, sharper picture than the standard interlaced process.

It provides the following connections:

  • Composite Video Out: 1
  • Composite Video In: 1
  • S-Video Out: 1
  • S-Video In: 1
  • Component Video Out: 1
  • Analog Audio Out: 1
  • Analog Audio In: 1
  • Digital Audio (Optical) Out: 1
  • Digital Audio (Coaxial) In: 1
  • Headphone: 1
DTS is the highest quality audio format used in movie films and DVD discs. It makes audio tracks more dynamic, more realistic and more closely matching to the original theatrical sound effect than any other digitally encoded soundtrack format.

What's in the Box
DVD Player/Receiver, remote control, batteries, instruction for use, AM/FM antenna, quick install card, six speakers (including subwoofer), speaker cable, subwoofer and connection cable, digital audio cable, video cable

2.0 out of 5 stars A Big Disappointment, December 28, 2004
This review is from: RCA RTD250 420-Watt 5-Disc Progressive-Scan DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
Although the sound is very good, the DVD player hardly recognizes any DVDs. I usually have to turn the unit on and off several times to get it to recognize a DVD. These are newly released DVDs and DVDs that are a couple years old. I'm going to end up buying a seperate DVD player because this one is so bad. It's not just mine. Read a few reviews of their RTD255 unit. I'm giving it 2 stars just because the sound is good.

1.0 out of 5 stars DOES NOT WORK!!, December 29, 2004
This review is from: RCA RTD250 420-Watt 5-Disc Progressive-Scan DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
I have had to contact RCA multiple times because this player does not play anything. It will just randomly decide that DVDs (brand new) are not of the right format?! The first time I called RCA, they said I needed to clean the lens and that they were going to send me a cleaning kit. It never came. I bought one myself, but cleaning wasn't the problem. The product does not work.

Although I didn't buy this junk from Amazon, I need to tell someone that RCA has made a terrible mistake in letting this product get loose. A year ago I had to replace the digital sound board, and now the DVD drive has completely quit....I'm buying somebody else's product.
