5.0 out of 5 stars Big Sound, May 15, 2007
This review is from: RCA SP2660 5-Satellite Speaker Package With Powered Subwoofer (Electronics)
The first thing I noticed when these speakers arrived to my door was how huge the box was. The satellite speakers are roughly 1'x6" and come with little clear stands. They sound very clear and crisp when plugged into my Kenwood reciever. They almost look like small pillows because of their shape and on the back side they have a nice pair of terminals for the speaker wire in which you just unscrew and screw in the wire. The biggest surprise to me was the subwoofer. This thing measures roughly 15"H x 21"L x 8"W. The sub has three built in bass knobs in the back, comes with subwoofer cable that measures more than 10 feet, and power cable that i found to be a bit short. You will need some wire cables for the 5 sattelite speakers becasuse they do not come with this system. This speaker set is a great buy and at 50 bucks this is a steal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Powerful, inexpensive, bigger than picture, May 10, 2007
This review is from: RCA SP2660 5-Satellite Speaker Package With Powered Subwoofer (Electronics)
I purchased these speakers due to the insane price drop offered by Amazon. I was weary of such a purchase (everything that glitters...), but upon receiving the speakers I am able to say they are brand-new and are good powerhouses.
Be warned about the size, though. The pictures definitely make the satellites look small, but they are each about 1'x6". They also are heavy little buggers. I'm not complaining (after all, I missed that part of the online instruction manual, my own fault), but was surprised to open the box and have these 100W nice-sized speakers appear.
Also, the subwoofer's output is on the bottom, which -- in an apartment complex -- could create problems for the downstairs neighbors. I will either elevate the subwoofer or just lay it on its side, with the output channels facing forward.
That's just a courtesy thing. When used as intended (output down), the subwoofer sounds awesome! Everything just rumbles beautifully.

If you have the room for all the satellites, you can't go wrong with a $50 set like this. With 100W of power for each speaker (plus the sub), this is a tight little bundle. I guess the only reason for the dramatic price reduction was RCA's discontinuation of the model. Amazon must be selling off the inventory.

4.0 out of 5 stars very pleased, May 14, 2007
This review is from: RCA SP2660 5-Satellite Speaker Package With Powered Subwoofer (Electronics)
I didnt know what to exspect from the sale priced speakers. For my application they are perfect. They are large for surround speakers. For the price, #49.9, I don't think they can be beat.

This is an excellent speaker system. The sound is terrific and the materials in their construction are very high quality, e.g., the magnets are big and heavy and everythig is metal not plastic. At the special price this was offerd by Amazon it is an outstanding value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Deal While It Lasted, June 21, 2007
This review is from: RCA SP2660 5-Satellite Speaker Package With Powered Subwoofer (Electronics)
I am similar to the last reviewer in that I cannot pass up a deal and this was as great a deal as they come for fifty plus twenty shipping. I didn't even need them quite yet but I'm planning a basement theater in the next few months so I grabbed these to give me a guilt free start. Like all others have mentioned, you are just in shock when you first open the box at what this set actually is. The speakers are a little wierd looking, no doubt. While they look soft and light in the pictures, they are actually quite hard, and heavy! I was a little surpised that the center channel is the exact same speaker as the other four but oh well, it sounds fine. This set is worth the powered subwoofer alone which is good, maybe a bit muddy at times. The sub actually has composite inputs and outputs on it so if you wanted to you could have dual subwoofers! I tried it and it works. I came really close to ordering another set to make a 7.1 setup with dual subs and have 3 speakers leftover for spares but I didn't do it quick enough and they are now gone, oh well. At least I got one set.

Even though I'm not going to use it for several months, I hooked everything up to try and they sounded very good. A no brainer for the price if you don't mind the styling AND if they ever get any more. By the way, if you wall mount them there is no evidence they are 'RCA's written anywhere on them but the subwoofer does say it.

This is one of those deals that don't come around very often. I shop a lot for speakers. In the past two years, there have only been a couple of better deals for a 5.1 setup. One; a Jensen 5.1 with sub for $25 delevered, and the Onwall speakers for $54 delivered that onecall had. I never miss a steal deal, and i didn't miss this one. It's better than a Sony dream system I got a couple years ago. That's not saying much, but what I am saying is, this is worth much more than $70. Only a few left. 4 lucky people. I give it five stars, without a doubt, for price/quality. As the other reviews stated - look like pillows, sub is huge for an 8", hefty satellites. Also 6ohm and a bit heavy in the midrange. It will completely rock a small room! By the way, the package was 60lbs. The stands for the speakers are plastic and weigh about one lb. The box and cables about 7lbs. The rest is all sub and satellites. The sub is almost 24lbs. The sats make up the rest. Comes with a long 25' quality sub cable. Sats are 12W x8H x4W". not 1" by 6"! sub is 19L 9W 15H add an inch for the knobs in length so 20" long. Sub hits 35hz well. Sats are 50hz to 20,000hz so can be set to 80hz THX setting fine. Unlike other 5.1 cheap sats.
