The Accusearch four-head, dual azimuth video system produces superior, jitter-free special effects for a clear and stable picture during still/pause, slow motion and forward/reverse search, while digital auto-tracking allows playing of most VHS tapes without the need for manual tracking adjustments. HQ video processing with special recording and playback circuitry enhances video characteristics, producing high-quality pictures. In addition, S-VHS quasi-playback means that the VCR can play back tapes recorded in S-VHS or S-VHS-ET mode in VHS quality.
Audio features include VHS hi-fi stereo recording and playback with incredible stereo audio reproduction. Two high-speed rotating audio heads scan the videotape to create stereo sound with dramatically improved dynamic range, frequency response, and signal-to-noise ratio. MTS broadcast stereo reception receives and records stereo sound from MTS (Multi-channel Television Sound) stereo TV broadcasts, where available. Second Audio Program (SAP) decodes the second audio program available on some broadcasts.
One of the more convenient features on the VR661HF is the commercial advance feature. Commercial advance eliminates having to watch most commercials during tape playback. Record and play tapes as usual. Then, after the recording, the commercial advance system locates and electronically marks most of the commercial segments. When a commercial advance tape is played back, the VCR automatically scans or fast-forwards through the marked segments, displaying a blue screen (or video) during the process. With the commercial advance feature, three minutes of commercial time is reduced to approximately 10 seconds (in SLP mode), allowing you to conveniently watch recorded shows in much less time. Or if you're in the mood for a movie, movie advance automatically finds the beginning on most rented and purchased videotapes. You can also selectively watch the previews, skipping one to the next. With the movie advance feature you can let the VCR find the movie while you take care of other things--like making popcorn. Once the movie is found, the VCR cues to the beginning, pauses the tape and informs you that the movie is ready to play.
Finally, VCR Plus+ simplifies VCR programming by letting you just punch in the PlusCode programming number from most TV listings. You can also adjust the end time, so if the program runs long, you won't miss a minute. Other convenient features include onscreen setup menus, one-button express recording for simple recording of a show in progress, and auto power on/play/rewind/shutoff. Users will also enjoy having an eight-event/one-year programmable timer, auto-channel search which automatically selects cable or antenna tuning and stores available off-air or unscrambled cable channels in memory, and the VHS index-search system, which simplifies locating the start of recorded programs by placing an electronic marker at the beginning of each new recording. Select an index number and the VCR will locate it and begin playback. The RCA VR661HF four-head hi-fi VCR comes with a push-button remote control and a warranty of one year on parts, 90 days on labor.

Lacks important features,
By A Customer
This review is from: RCA VR661HF 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR, Silver (Electronics)
This is overall a good vcr but it lacks some really obvious features. The lighted display on the front tells the time, etc., but it does not tell you when the unit is playing, rewinding, fast forwarding, etc. It does have a record indication, but it is so small you can't read it from 5 feet away. This may seem trivial, but when I am on the couch, I like the visual feedback of what mode the vcr is in when I'm going back or forward through a movie, or when I'm recording. Seems like pretty simple features that it ought to have, and I have always seen on other vcrs.

Very Good 4 Head VCR from RCA,

This review is from: RCA VR661HF 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR, Silver (Electronics)
This is a very good VCR and it records and plays pictures back very good. At this price you can't beat it. If you have old tapes that were recorded in the LP (4-hour mode) you will find that all RCA VCRs play tapes back recorded at this speed better than any other manufacturers' units. RCA was the last manufacturer to offer LP recording capability before all manufacturers discontinued to offer it. A real great feature is the Quasi S-VHS playback for compatibility with tapes recorded in S-VHS and S-VHS-ET modes. This unit has VCR+ Silver. RCA remembers and at a good price.

VR661HF overrated [...],

This review is from: RCA VR661HF 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR, Silver (Electronics)
I bought this VCR based on the review of 5 stars. This VCR did not perform as stated and I returned it. The other reviews must have been written by RCA employees. The VCR recorded a blurred picture. Playback of tapes recorded on other VCRs was good. The color and size of this VCR do not match any of my other components that I have in a audio cabinet. It was not as good as my seven year old Sony or my 8 year old Sanyo or even my Toshiba.
