This is a premium zwave thermostat from a high quality company. RCS has been creating thermostats and controllers both under the RCS name and for major OEM's for many years. The Zwave radios are strong and act as repeaters for all zwave devices creating a strong mesh network throughout your home.

Install required me to go up in the attic and connect a ground wire to attic units. Luckily there were extra wires available to bring the ground to the thermostat. I had to call my A/C to determine if the initial settings were correct. Once connected the sync to my ADTPulse alarm system was a snap. I can monitor temp of the house from my smart phone, see when the units are on, off, heating and cooling by looking at the interface and history. Turn the units on and off from my smartphone and use the alarm make away and home set points. The programming is a little challenging and I'll need to read the direction again. The main difference from a standard unit is that when I've set it to hold at a temperature, temp will change when a program time tells it to. Other units I've had will hold the set temp until I turn the program back on. Again, this maybe just a learning curve I have to climb. The copy function makes it easy to apply a program for one or several days of the week.

Pretty easy to install in do it yourself mode. Works great with ADT Pulse and Z-Wave. Now I can control from my iPhone, iPad and Web. Good programmability via Web.

I have tried 4 different connected thermostat: 2gig CT100, ecobee Smart Si, Honeywell, and RCS.

RCS looks more like a traditional thermostat than others. You can program the 7-day schedule. When it is connected to the Z-Wave network, it won’t use its schedule anymore. This is very different from my expectation. Furthermore, the backlight never goes to complete dark. It could be good or bad.

For comparison,
(1) 2gig CT100 has a very slim design. It can operate without any common-wire. This is very good if you retrofit your old-style thermostat (e.g., Honey T87F) with only two hires. However, you cannot program it on the panel. You have to program it from a Z-Wave hub.
(2) Honeywell seems to be comprehensive than other. You can program the schedule and still have the Z-Wave command to overwrite it. Although it seems to be a good combination of pre-set schedule and context-dependent operation, the schedule will not kick in once the Z-Wave hub sent the command to the thermostat. You have to touch the schedule button on the screen to ask it follow the schedule. By the way, my module kept losing its communication to the SmartThings hub.
(3) Ecobee Smart Si is more stylish than than others. It also provides an additional back panel just in case that the user wants to cover a bigger wall. (Very sweet!) It is easy to set up the the WiFi connection. The website also has nice user interface. However, it also requires a C-wire in order to function. There is no diagram for just to wire a one-stage heater without AC. Finally, its price is higher than others.

In my personal opinion, 2gig CT100 and Honeywell are top choices. 2gig CT100 is really inexpensive and very nice looking. Honeywell provides a better capability, in particular, the programmable schedule. If you Z-wave hub is down, it can still adjust the temperature according to a pre-set schedule. RCS is over-priced and it does not even have touch screen.

ADT had one of their electricians install this so I could use it with my ADT Pulse to control my thermostat. This is one of the best home purchases I made. Here's why I like it.

1. Although the leading negative review claims that you need 5 wires to use this, don't believe it. My existing thermostat had only 4 wires, and the electrician who installed this product had no problem doing so (I watched him).

2. This is attractive and very easy to use if I want to manually raise or lower my programmed heating or cooling temperature.

3. This thermostat lets me control my heating and cooling from my iPhone 4S, iPad 3, Nexus 2013 tablet (all using an app) and PC (using the Pulse website).

Note: you can raise or lower the temperature with any gadget, but you cannot change your schedules except through the ADT website.

4. Not only is this thermostat convenient if I decide I want to raise or lower the temperature while I'm away, but also eliminates the need when I'm home to go to the thermostat to do it. Watching TV in my den and feel a little chilly? I just take out my iPhone and raise the temperature. Very convenient.

Bottom line: A quality product that helps me get the most out of my ADT Pulse system.

This is one of the few devices that works with ADT Pulse. Instead of paying ADT for the product and install, I bought 2 from this Amazon listing and installed myself, then logged into the control panel online and manually added the devices to Pulse. Worked on the first try and now I have both upstairs and downstairs thermostats able to be controlled by the ADT app on my iPhone. I LOVE TECHNOLOGY!

I had no trouble programming this or integrating it with my automation system. The A/C goes on when we get home and off automatically when we leave, and the time-based features also worked (so it starts cooling off before we get home automatically).

As others have noticed, it does require a HV common, which my thermostat wiring did not have, so I had to pull new wire to the thermostat. If you don't know what you're doing, better to hire someone to do that part.
