As Good As You'll Find,

This DVD is excellent. I come from a background of windsurfing, wakeboarding and flying trainer kites so I was looking for something that would give some technical details as well as basic instruction. Real devlivered big time.
Not only is the kiteboarding instruction great, but there's a whole bunch of info about the gear and how to tune and repair everything from you kite to your board. The way it's laid out makes it easy to understand and follow. After watching this I took a 17.5 kite out on the beach and had no problem flying it around and getting drug up and down the sand. I took a lesson and within two hours I was on the water cruising along like I'd done it for years. I have to credit this video for giving me a huge head start. If your going to take some lessons get this DVD, you won't regret it.

Good for getting going,
By Just a side note, the dvd only covers up to simply getting up on the board. It doesn't cover any of the riding basics like turning or riding upwind, so you'll have to get the 2nd dvd in the series to learn that. Or you could just go to the beach and watch what other people are doing. There are also some websites that have instructional write ups that I've found to be useful.

Not as good as the Progression Videos,

This was the first instructional video I bought thinking that it was the only option. Although the explanations of kite design, set up, and especially safety are generally good, I didn't find the techniques described to be as easy to emulate as those of the Progression video. This is mainly because the camera shots are too far removed from the actual position of the kite, the board, and the body and feet of the rider to give you a sense of what you should be doing. After much trial and error on the water, I realized that this video is not as good as it could be. By contrast, the Progression video positions the camera up close and personal: right at the head of the rider -- which makes you feel like you are learning right there with them and it takes that extra step of analyzing what you should be doing relative to their position out of the learning curve. Moreover, the Progression videos are edited to show pictorially, the position and direction of the wind and the position and direction of the kite/body/board/feet etc., this is VERY helpful. In addition, the Progression videos take you through common mistakes that beginner riders make and tells and shows you how to work through them.
The one extra on the Real video I liked was the explanation of different board types. This is a nice tutorial for when you are ready to progress to another board. Then they had this music video which just seemed erroneous (music as background would have been enough...really). Then there was this bad video from Liquid Force which showed nothing (check out the new Addikt video from Fone; its amazing!!!) with a hip-hop tune half of which was edited for profanity...honestly, if you're going choose a tune that your gonna have to bleep out just choose a different one. Humble suggestion.... you guys run an really great shop but this video is due for a rework.

This review is from: REAL KITEBOARDING Zero To Hero Instructional Dvd (Sports)
This DVD is a filming of kitesurfing instructors conducting lessons. As such it does not provide instructional material from the standpoint of a person viewing a video. Also, it only goes up through the waterstart and has very little on riding technique. It does not point out common mistakes that the viewer may be making. The Progression series of kitesurfing instructional DVDs is far superior.

The Zero to Hero video does a great job of covering the basics for learning to kiteboard. It gives good information to help in preparing for lessons, and reenforces the information put out in lessons. The video has enough information to get started without lessons, but even with the dvd, lessons are a good idea. I would highly recommend this video for anyone interested in learning to kiteboard.
