5.0 out of 5 stars A Believable Submarine Thriller in the Tom Clancy Mold!, September 14, 2006
This review is from: RED SKY AT NIGHT (Paperback)
Author Bill Bigelow, who is a former Navy officer and also an actor from old TV shows like Hawaii Five-O, Charlie's Angels, Magnum P.I. and Jake and The Fatman, has created a great submarine thriller that gives the reader total satisfaction. The book has a great balance between the plot and the character development. This is a well written and an intelligent accounting of a very plausible scenario dealing with submarines, secrets, murder, spies, and international intrigue.

The phrasing and writing technique that Bigelow uses to tell his tale, makes for entertaining story telling. This book will hold your attention from the first few pages all the way to last satisfying pages. This is a great undersea novel that connects well with the reader. I loved the book. I believe that Bigelow has all the potential to join a very elite group of best selling writers of military fiction. This is a must read! Watch this author he is going to be noticed!

The MWSA gives this book its Highest Book Rating of Five Stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping tale, November 1, 2005
This review is from: RED SKY AT NIGHT (Paperback)
I read this book in my spare time over the weekend. My wife got mad because I couldn't put it down. The story line is plausible, if not probable, and there were a few minor typos, like though for thought that I found in 4 places in the book.

A couple of things I did catch that were incorrect though, a KC-135 is the military version of the Boeing 707 not the 747. The scenario of the deportation of the two women is wrong, but I worked for INS for over 25 years. State doesn't deport people Justice does, they need a hearing and they would definately go to jail for the espionage before deportation.

The last thing that troubled me, more out of a curiosity standpoint than anything else, was with the problems and escalation of the situation in the book, why would a US Navy ship make a port call in Hong Kong, now part of China? It just seemed out of character for the story line.

My criticism is truly minor, mostly because of what I did, and for the most part people would not know unless they worked within the Federal system. The book is well written and, as I said in the title of the review, it truly is gripping. You can't put this book down until you get to page 465.
