Gives a nice broad overview, but not enough specifics,
This review is from: THE LAST REMNANT Signature Series Guide (Bradygames Signature Guides) (Paperback)
When people buy strategy guides, they expect to have certain strategies laid out for beating bosses and advancing your characters that you don't normally come across in regular gameplay. This doesn't have either. Boss fights merely explain what attacks the boss does, and almost everytime it just says focus on the less powerful units then on the main boss. It lists all the skills that are available and the order you earn them, but no strategy for acquiring them more effectively/quickly.
There are lists of components, but no info on where they're typically found, which is really annoying when there are multiple quests that require you to find certain components for various people. It's a big world and the guide is supposed to help make it easier to navigate. Maps are not all in one location, and there are multiple places that the main storyline doesn't take you so figuring out how to get to those other places is virtually impossible. I've ended up using the guide for the pretty pictures and an online guide from GameFAQs to fill in the details. Considering how complex the different systems are in this game, I was highly anticipating the release of the strategy guide. It was a big disappointment.

A botched attempt,

I almost always manage to find some redeeming fact in even the crummiest of guides. Be it a nice, comprehensive list of enemies or tables with info on skills and their progression.
This guide does not contain any of this. At all. Even though it fills over three hundred pages it manages to contain just about nothing. What little information is there is more often than not wildly inaccurate or totally misleading. Classic things that you'd expect in a guide, such as information on how to most efficiently build your group in order to beat the bonus content, is missing completely. The bestiary has been reduced to a "Monster Gallery" with pretty pictures and no information whatsoever. No, really - no information at all. I kid you not. Sure, it lists skills but it doesn't give any information beyond what the game already gives you. It says things like: "Creates a mystical light that boosts the stats of a friendly union". Well, that's nice, but I would expect to find a little more detail - like maybe let us know *which* stats? No - no matter how hard I look I just can't find anything in this guide that makes it worth my purchase. The only thing it manages is to give me a general idea of plot progression and that's something the game manages just fine on its own. So, buyer beware, this is not one of Brady's finer moments-

Not quite enough,

The official guide to The Last Remnant is missing a lot of the valuable information that one would expect from a guide. It is still the best guide available in English, for now anyway. In Japan there is a much more thorough guide and I hope that is translated soon.
The Signature Series guide does have complete maps, but they are not organized very well. The guide does have a complete walk-through of the main storyline. Side-quests are covered by the guide, but some are not covered completely. The guide details what is available for purchase in all of the towns, but it doesn't describe what can be crafted. My biggest gripe with the guide is a complete lack of information on character advancement. The Last Remnant has a very complicated system for statistic and skill advancement, and the guide makes no attempt to explain it. Some optional goals (Guild Tasks) are dependant on advancing characters a certain way, but the guide only lists the requirements, not how to reach them. Even with all of its faults, this guide is better than nothing. The maps that are provided are useful and the walk-through did help me through some difficult battles. If you are looking for something more, then you might want to wait until the Japanese guide is translated.

Decent, But I Still Use Wiki,

Let's get the bad right out of the way: the guide is severely lacking in specifics. The bestiary is sub-par to non-existent, the section on formations does not provide information on how to upgrade each one (only provides a hint to 'try' different combos), and generally refuses to be of any help with components, customizations, or recruitment.
In all, I want a guide, not a wishy-washy attempt to give an overview of the game. Sad, but true. Having said all that, it is a decent explanation of side quests and main quest walk-through. Sum up: buy it for the progression of main story quest and side quest overview, but stick with the wiki or message boards for any kind of actual, detailed information.

a much needed guide to a great game. It could have been written better, such as it doesn't list where components can be dug, it doesn't list a weapon crafting guide, nor does it say where the rare monsters are or the conditions. However, the side quest section is detailed and the list of shops can be helpful. Even though i didn't get this directly from Amazon rather from a company selling through Amazon, it got here in a speedy manner in excellent condition.

For a game of this complexity, a more through guide is needed. There are also quests where the guide says they are available, but in the side quests section, they aren't there. I found myself on the net trying to find information the guide lacks. There is also next to zero information on the battle system or advancement. The maps are also a little difficult to use. Sometimes the maps are included, sometimes they aren't. I wish the guide has a specific maps section with every single map in the game for easy reference. The guide does tell you how to complete quests and bosses but if you go up against an enemy, you won't know anything about their HP. The guide is helpful in many situations, such as to tell you when to perform a side quest, a general strategy against an enemy, or to tell you where treasure chests (not dig points) are.

This is just what I was looking for and at a really good price. Everywhere else I looked it was much more expensive and this was great. Will defiantly order from here again.
